The Vancouver Canucks acquired defensemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from the San Jose Sharks for center Patrick White and defenseman Daniel Rahimi.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks? The Canucks were looking for defensemen since the end of 2008-09, especially after they lost veteran Matthias Ohlund in unrestricted free agency. Ehrhoff will step into a top-four role with the 'Nucks, while Lukowich will provide some stability and penalty-killing prowess on the third pairing.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks? This move is clearly designed to make others by Sharks GM Doug Wilson. He has moved two defensemen without replacing them right away, so something else should be brewing. White is a good prospect whose development has stagnated a little, while Rahimi is a big project defenseman at this point.
