Rick Nash is continuing his fine defensive play as he is playing against the Flyers top line in the playoffs.
Nash, Derek Stepan and Martin St. Louis are facing the Flyers top unit of Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell and Jakub Voracek for the most part and the line is shutting them down. Nash got a great taste of defensive play in the Olympics where he was a bottom six forward for Canada and his play is continuing into the playoffs. He had an assist in Game 1 and a team-leading seven shots on goal.
Daniel Girardi and Ryan McDonagh continue to excel against the Flyers top line.
The Bergen Record
Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell and Jakub Voracek combined for only one goal and three assists in four regular season games with Hartnell setting up Andrew MacDonald on the power play for the only Flyers goal in Game 1 of the playoffs. If the duo of Girardi and McDonagh continue their outstanding play, the Flyers are going to have a tough time advancing.
Emery played in Game 1 as he allowed four goals on 36 shots in a 4-1 loss to the Rangers. With starter Steve Mason still unable to go due to an upper body injury, Emery will try to square the series at one apiece. Teammate Wayne Simmonds thought that Emery was terrific in Game 1 as he made numerous great saves.
