"You just play your game. You're in a zone. You know these games can come down to one little play. If you don't get a piece of the puck or you don't let [Tomas] Vokoun see it and you end up losing the game, you feel awful. You do everything you can to help the team win." LAKingsInsider.com

Impact
"I think the challenge for us is - as Darryl would say - `starting on time,'" Scuderi said. "I thought they dominated the first. Second period, I thought they dominated the first half. We took the second half, and we dominated the third. When you think about it, it's pretty much an even game, but they buried on their chances." Scuderi added that the Kings didn't learn their lessons from Game 3, so now the series is tied. The good news for the Kings is that the series is moving back to Los Angeles for Game 5.

Edmonton Sun

Impact
Krueger coached the Swiss national team before becoming the Oilers' bench boss. "With Krueger we got pretty consistent making the quarterfinals, he did a great job," Brunner said. "For Switzerland he made them believe we could take the next step. Then when he left, Sean Simpson took over and he's been able to take the next step by winning a quarterfinal and winning a semifinal. But Ralph Krueger did a great job over the time he was there." Switzerland ended up falling short in the gold medal game, but it was still their best showing in the tournament since 1935.

Boston Herald

Impact
He wanted his line, along with Daniel Paille (game-winning goal) and Gregory Campbell (an assist), to help out in the scoring act heading into the contest. "We're a better team when all four lines are going for 60 (minutes)," said Thornton, who chipped in two assists. "(Last night) we didn't have any passengers. We might have been the ones who got a couple of goals, but I thought everyone was going."

News
Johnny Boychuk netted his fourth goal of the playoffs in Tuesday's win over the Rangers.
Boston Herald

Impact
He potted the game-tying goal in the third period of a 2-1 victory. The Bruins have received plenty of offense from the back end in their second-round series versus New York, with five goals coming from defensemen. "It's just a bonus," Boychuk said. "We just want to get shots on net and our forwards are doing a good job of screening (the goalie). Sometimes they'll tip it and it will go in. But we've been hitting the net and it's been going in. We just have to keep doing the same thing."
P. Bergeron continues to dominate on draws | 05/22/2013 10:13 AM
News

News
Duncan Keith was able to take some positives out of Detroit's 3-1 win on Monday.
Detroit News

Impact
"We probably had one of our better game of the playoffs (Monday)," Keith said. "Even though we lost, I think we're going to take some confidence away from this game. I know it's a tougher situation down 2-1, but we just got to go in with the right mentality the next game." Chicago has been given plenty of time to reflect on that defeat, given that Game 4 won't be until Thursday. Keith assisted on Chicago's lone goal on Monday and has six points in eight playoff games.

News
Boston coach Claude Julien is confident that his group has learned from their past mistakes in elimination games and that they are stronger right now than they were.
Boston Globe

Impact
The Bruins blew a 3-0 series lead against Philadelphia three years ago and nearly lost to Toronto in the first round this year after building a 3-1 series lead. "The Toronto series, I didn't think our team was in the zone the way it is right now," Julien said. "I anticipate - knowing my team - that we're going to come out the same next game and certainly not be the Jekyll and Hyde team that we were in the first round." Boston can sweep the New York Rangers with a victory on Thursday night.
Jonathan Ericsson wants Hawks' frustrated | 05/22/2013 9:52 AM
News
Jonathan Ericsson stressed the value of getting under the Blackhawks' skin.
Detroit News

Impact
"If we can get them frustrated, that's almost 1-0 for us right away," Ericsson said. "So that's what we want to do." The Blackhawks are denying that the Red Wings have succeeded in frustrating them, but they have suffered back-to-back rough losses against Detroit. They'll enter Game 4 on Thursday with the goal of evening this series, but if the Red Wings get off to a strong sstart, it could be a big blow to Chicago's confidence.

News
Jacob Trouba had an injury at the IIHF World Championship that caused him to miss three games, but he finished the tournament strong and helped the United States win the bronze medal.
Winnipeg Sun

Impact
"It was definitely an adjustment from where I was," Trouba said. "I hadn't played a game in a month and a half going into that, and I had never played at that level before. The first couple games were an adjustment, and then I got a little injured there for a little bit, and then when I came back I felt fine. I felt like I could keep up and I could play how I play at that level. So it went well." He recorded a goal and two assists in seven contests, while logging 13 minutes of average ice time per game. Trouba may find himself in Winnipeg's top-six defense group next season.

News
Contract talks with restricted free agent Zach Bogosian haven't begun at this time, according to his agent Bob Murray.
Winnipeg Free Press

Impact
GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is preoccupied with the draft and his end of the year evaluations, so it's not surprising that he hasn't held discussions with Bogosian's camp yet. A deal will probably be worked out over the summer after he's sent a qualifying offer.

Report: Burmistrov won't re-sign with Jets | 05/22/2013 9:39 AM
News
According to two league sources, Alexander Burmistrov has no intention of re-signing with the Winnipeg Jets.
Winnipeg Free Press

Impact
He is slated for restricted free agency. Burmistrov reportedly wanted to be dealt at the trade deadline and despite discussions with Ottawa, Buffalo and the New York Islanders, the Jets were unsuccessful in moving him. His agent, Mark Gandler, wouldn't say much about the matter, but he did say that "Alex is not going to sign in the KHL." Burmistrov hasn't been very productive in three seasons, with 23 goals and 35 assists in 194 career contests, but he's still just 21 years of age so it might be too early to label him as a bust.
P. Roy remains a strong coaching candidate | 05/22/2013 9:35 AM
News
Patrick Roy is still a strong candidate for the Colorado Avalanche's coaching job, even if it's not a done deal.
Denver Post

Impact
The Avalanche tried to bring Roy in as the team coach in 2009, but those efforts ultimately fell through. However, back then it appeared that Roy was the one that turned down Colorado, while this time around there's reportedly mutual interest. Roy's former teammate, Milan Hejduk, thinks Roy is ready to coach an NHL team after his years as the Quebec Remparts' bench boss. "He was just a fiery guy. He tried to fire up his troops," Hejduk said. "There were a number of times after a bad first period he would stand in front of the locker room and raise his voice and try to get things going. He's done a really good job coaching his junior team, and paid his dues. It should really serve him well in the future."
Toews is searching for first goal of playoffs | 05/22/2013 9:28 AM
News
Jonathan Toews is still looking for his first goal of the playoffs.
CSN Chicago

Impact
"I always (feel the pressure to score); maybe a little added pressure in this situation. It's one of those things I have to keep working, keep trying to find ways to score," Toews said. "Eventually it's going to come." Chicago could certainly use the help. They have been held to just two goals over their last two games and are now down in their second-round series 2-1. These are the type of situations where they rely on Toews the most.
Hossa: 'We need to get our power play going' | 05/22/2013 8:58 AM
News
Chicago has just three power-play goals in 22 opportunities.
CSN Chicago

Impact
"We need to get our power play going," Marian Hossa said. "We need a big goal from the power play." Chicago certainly needs something after scoring just two goals in their last two games. They haven't scored a power-play goal on the road in the 2013 playoffs, so that's something to keep in mind as they get ready for Game 4 in Detroit.
John Gibson finishes off a great season | 05/22/2013 8:54 AM
News
John Gibson excelled in the 2013 World Championship.
Orange County Register

Impact
Gibson had a 1.56 GAA and .951 save percentage in six games to help Team USA capture the bronze medal. He also had a 2.41 GAA and .928 save percentage in 27 OHL regular season games this season. He's worth keeping an eye on during the Ducks training camp, but he won't make the team unless the Ducks trade Jonas Hiller or Viktor Fasth over the summer. In fact it could still be years before he gets regular playing time in the NHL and he'll likely get some seasoning in the AHL first, but he's certainly showing a lot of promise.
Offensive woes continue for Kings | 05/22/2013 1:15 AM
News
Mike Richards provided the only offense for the Los Angeles Kings with a third period power play goal in their 2-1 Game 4 loss to San Jose on Tuesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
The Kings offense sputtered in San Jose, after starting the series strong. The team was completely outplayed in the first period, resulting in a 15-3 shot differential in favor of the Sharks. L.A. turned it around a bit in the third, mustering some quality chances in the form of 14 shots, including Richards' tally. However, the team needs to solve their offensive dilemmas as they head home for Game 5 on Thursday. Jeff Carter and Anze Kopitar both recorded assists in the loss and led the team with four shots apiece.
Quick receives little help in 2-1 Game 4 loss | 05/22/2013 1:06 AM
News
Jonathan Quick allowed two goals on 23 shots, as the Kings dropped Game 4 to the Sharks by a score of 2-1.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Quick was tested early and often, stopping 14 of 15 shots in the first period, as the Sharks sent a slew of pucks at him throughout the frame. He faced just eight shots the rest of the way, but a San Jose power play goal in the second proved the difference, as L.A. was unable to generate successful scoring chances. Quick has been pretty impressive this series, despite dropping back-to-back 2-1 contests in San Jose. Hopefully the shift back to L.A. for Game 5 will change the Kings' fortune and give Quick some offensive help.
Couture helps Sharks even up series at 2-2 | 05/22/2013 1:00 AM
News
Logan Couture scored his fifth goal of the playoffs on the power play, leading the Sharks to a 2-1 Game 4 victory on Tuesday to even the series up at 2-2.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Couture originally did not receive credit for the game-winning goal, but the replay showed that the Dan Boyle point shot clearly ricocheted off of Couture and past Jonathan Quick. Couture led the Sharks with five shots on goal, and has been active all series, having tallied points in each of the past three games. Brent Burns opened the scoring in the first period with his second of the playoffs, while Joe Thornton received the first star of the game after notching an assist and playing well on the defensive side of the puck in the win.
Niemi steady in Sharks Gm 4 victory | 05/22/2013 12:55 AM
News
Antti Niemi was strong in net, stopping 22 of 23 shots he faced as the Sharks tied up the series with 2-1 Game 4 win on Tuesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Niemi wasn't busy for most of the night, as the Sharks did a good job of stalling the Kings attack. He was helped in the second period after a premature whistle was blown before a Kings goal. He rallied from there, and aside from allowing a power play goal in the third, he settled in quite nicely when L.A. turned it up towards the finish. After starting the series slowly, Niemi has responded with back-to-back .950 SV% performances. He'll have to steal one for the Sharks on the road, however, if they are going to advance to the Western Conference finals.
Daniel Paille leads Bruins to 3-0 series lead | 05/21/2013 10:45 PM
News
Daniel Paille notched a goal and an assist to lead Boston to a 2-1 Game 3 win over the New York Rangers.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
He picked up an assist on defenseman Johnny Boychuck's fourth marker of the playoffs and then he supplied the game-winning goal late in the third. The Bruins' fourth line wanted to contribute more offensively and they were the driving force behind Tuesday's victory. Shawn Thornton picked up two assists in the contest and Gregory Campbell had a helper of his own. Milan Lucic recorded five hits and Matt Bartkowski led the team with six. Boston now owns a commanding 3-0 series lead versus the Rangers.
T. Rask earns 3rd straight win over Rangers | 05/21/2013 10:33 PM
News
Tuukka Rask turned aside 23 shots in a 2-1 win over the New York Rangers Tuesday night.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
The Rangers registered 11 shots in the first period, but they mustered just 13 in the next two stanzas. Still, Rask deserves some credit for keeping the Bruins close after two periods and allowing them to stage a third-period comeback. New York has scored only five goals on Rask in three games in their Eastern Conference Semifinal series, which is why they trail Boston 3-0 and are one loss away from playoff elimination.
Henrik Lundqvist gets hard-luck loss in Gm 3 | 05/21/2013 10:27 PM
News
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 32 of 34 shots in a 2-1 loss to Boston in Game 3 Tuesday.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
The Rangers held a 1-0 lead late going into the third period, but ended up losing and digging themselves a 3-0 hole in the series. New York wasted a strong bounce-back effort from their goaltender, who stopped 14 shots in the second period. Lundqvist rebounded after getting burned for five goals against in Game 2, but his teammates couldn't close out the Bruins by giving him some additional offensive support.

Taylor Pyatt was credited with New York's only goal in a 2-1 loss to the Boston Bruins in Game 3 Tuesday night.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
The goal was originally thought to be scored by defenseman Ryan McDonagh, but after a review it was given to Pyatt on the tip. The Rangers carried the 1-0 lead into the third period, but the Bruins netted two goals in the final frame to take a commanding 3-0 series lead. Derek Stepan led the club with five shots and Ryan Callahan posted a game-high seven hits to go with four shots. John Moore finished with a minus-1 rating and a game-high four blocks.

Derick Brassard set to quarterback PP in Gm 3 | 05/21/2013 7:25 PM
News
The Rangers are expected to use Derick Brassard on the point of their struggling power play in Game 3 Tuesday night.
NHL.com

Impact
He practiced there in the team's morning skate after playing there briefly in Game 2 and it's something he has done before. "I played the point my first year. It's different than playing in front," Brassard said. "You have to move on the blueline and make sure you shoot the puck. That's what I'm planning on doing. Our power play needs to be good and we need to score some goals." The Rangers don't have a man-advantage marker on eight opportunities against Boston in the series.

Patrick Roy's brother takes back Avs remarks | 05/21/2013 6:32 PM
News
Patrick Roy's brother told L.A. Lariviere of TVA Sports in Montreal that he was misquoted by the Denver Post and he does not know if a deal has been reached for his brother to be head coach of the Colorado Avalanche.
L.A. Lariviere on Twitter

Impact
Mathieu Roy first posted on his Facebook page Monday night that his brother Patrick would be named the Avs' next head coach. Roy then reportedly affirmed those comments in a conversation with Adrian Dater of the Denver Post. Multiple media outlets called the report premature Tuesday morning and Mathieu Roy officially backtracked in the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Avs and Patrick Roy have remained quiet the entire time, which makes us think the two parties are in the midst of negotiations. Either way, we should know in the next few days whether Roy will be behind the Colorado bench next season.
Brenden Morrow left practice early Tuesday | 05/21/2013 6:04 PM
News
Brenden Morrow left practice Tuesday for unspecified reasons and his status for Wednesday's Game 4 is uncertain.
Josh Yohe on Twitter

Impact
The Penguins were predictably tight-lipped on Morrow. Beat writer Josh Yohe doesn't believe Morrow is seriously hurt, but said he's definitely not 100 percent. This could've been a case of the Penguins giving a veteran some extra time to rest, but we likely won't know anything for sure until tomorrow's morning skate.
Logan Couture to play in Game 4 as expected | 05/21/2013 5:55 PM
News
Logan Couture will play in Tuesday's Game 4 despite sitting out practice Monday.
CSN Bay Area

Impact
Couture was injured during the second period of Game 3 but eventually returned to the game in time to score the gamer winner in overtime. He participated in today's morning skate and coach Todd McLellan confirmed Couture will play in Tuesday's crucial Game 4. The Sharks trail the Kings 2-1 in the series.
Predators hire Housley to replace Horachek | 05/21/2013 4:44 PM
News
The Nashville Predators tabbed Phil Housley to replace fired associate coach Peter Horachek.
NHL.com

Impact
Housley, who coached the U.S. in the 2013 world juniors, will be an assistant on Barry Trotz's staff. It'll be interesting to see how Housley affects Nashville's long-dormant offense, particularly on the power play. Trotz very much prefers a defensive, two-way game, which seems to contradict Housley's playing style. Then again, Horachek was fired Monday after the Predators finished with the second-worst record in the Western Conference, which also included one the lowest goals-score totals in the league.
Jackets GM doesn't care if Johansen unhappy | 05/21/2013 4:33 PM
News
Columbus Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen said he hopes Ryan Johansen takes his recent benching in stride but noted "I' don't really care' if Johansen was unhappy playing in the AHL.
Columbus Dispatch

Impact
Johansen was a healthy scratch for Springfield during Game 4 of the AHL playoffs and coach Brad Larsen said he didn't feel like Johansen's level of play was where it needed to be. "I think this is probably going to be a disappointment [to him], to say the least, maybe even a bit embarrassing," said Kekalainen, who also noted the fourth overall pick in 2010 will have to earn an NHL spot in training camp next fall. Johansen played in 40 NHL games this season, scoring five goals and 12 points.
Alexei Emelin out 6 months after knee surgery | 05/21/2013 4:19 PM
News
Alexei Emelin will be sidelined for the next six months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee Tuesday.
Renaud Lavoie on Twitter

Impact
Emelin suffered the season-ending injury on April 6 but waited until just today to have it repaired. Given the timeline, it's likely Emelin won't be able to return to the lineup until at least the end of November and possibly early December. While the injury won't affect your fantasy draft, the Canadiens clearly missed his physical presence on the blue line.
Sutter won't confirm Clifford's Game 4 status | 05/21/2013 4:16 PM
News
Los Angeles Kings coach Darryl Sutter wouldn't confirm if Kyle Clifford will be in the lineup for Tuesday's Game 4.
Helene Elliott on Twitter

Impact
We didn't expect Sutter to reveal anything about his lineup until he absolutely has to minutes before the puck drops. However, Clifford said Monday he was ready to return and both team's beat writers seem to believe he'll be in the lineup Tuesday night. Stay tuned.
Canadiens sign Magnus Nygren to ELC | 05/21/2013 4:12 PM
News
Montreal Canadiens sign Magnus Nygren to two-year, entry-level contract.
NHL.com

Impact
Nygren spent the 2012-13 season with Farjestads BK Karlstad of the Swedish Elite League, racking up 13 goals and 32 points in 51 games. The 13 goals were a league high for defensemen and the 32 point put him fourth among blueliners. The Canadiens drafted Nygren in the fourth round in 2011.
McLellan still weighing lineup with 7 D-men | 05/21/2013 2:59 PM
News
San Jose Sharks coach Todd McLellan said he's weighing a lineup with Jason Demers inserted as a seventh defenseman for Tuesday's game 4.
Pierre LeBrun on Twitter

Impact
Demers has been sidelined since he suffered a sprained left ankle on April 18. He said Monday he's available to return to the lineup, which puts the decision squarely on McLellan's shoulders. Demers did skate at forward at times Monday and could help McLellan balance out both sides of the Sharks' banged-up equation.
Still no timetable for Eric Gryba's return | 05/21/2013 2:37 PM
News
Eric Gryba (upper body) didn't practice Tuesday and there's no timetable for his return.
Senators on Twitter

Impact
Gryba hasn't been on the ice since colliding with Brooks Orpik in the second period of Game 1. He's expected to practice with the team Wednesday morning, but that doesn't mean he's ready to return to the lineup. We should know more after tomorrow's morning skate.
Chris Neil practices, cleared to play Game 4 | 05/21/2013 2:33 PM
News
Chris Neil (undisclosed) practiced Tuesday and is cleared to play in Wednesday's Game 4.

Tim Kennedy back in the lineup for Game 4 | 05/21/2013 2:06 PM
News
Tim Kennedy is expected to return to the lineup in Tuesday's Game 4.
Kevin Kurz on Twitter

Impact
Kennedy sat out Game 3 as Martin Havlat returned to the lineup after an undisclosed injury. However, Havlat is out again Tuesday with a lower-body injury, which clears the way for Kennedy to return to the lineup.
Leo Komarov says he's talking with KHL club | 05/21/2013 1:49 PM
News
Leo Komarov admitted Tuesday that he's talking with the Moscow Dynamo of the KHL but said he's waiting for an offer from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Dmitry Chesnokov on Twitter

Impact
Komarov is a restricted free agent and is free to head to Russia if he pleases. Whether he's seriously contemplating it or not, the fact is that this will likely drive the price up for whatever contract Toronto had in mind. Depending on what the KHL club is willing to offer, the cost might be too much for the Leafs to keep a player that's essentially a fourth liner.
Islanders sign Chris Bruton to one-year deal | 05/21/2013 1:36 PM
News
New York Islanders sign Chris Bruton to one-year contract.
NHL.com

Impact
Bruton spent the last two seasons with the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL, scoring four goals and 10 points in 69 games in 2012-13.The Calgary, Alberta native also notched 134 penalty minutes and a plus-2 rating.
Marchand: Bruins need to show killer instinct | 05/21/2013 1:25 PM
News
Brad Marchand said the Boston Bruins need to make sure they don't let the New York Rangers back in the series.
Katie Strang on Twitter

Impact
The Bruins were up 3-1 on Toronto only to see the Maple Leafs rally and force Game 7. "We realize we let [Toronto] back in it. We didn't have that killer instinct. ... We want to step up and do the job," Marchand said at Tuesday's morning skate. The Bruins lead the Rangers 2-0 heading into Game 3 tonight.
Avs' head scout says their No. 1 pick 'open' | 05/21/2013 1:13 PM
News
The Colorado Avalanche's head scout says the No. 1 pick is "open" and talk of defenseman Seth Jones being locked into that spot is premature.
Denver Post

Impact
Unless the scout knows something we don't -- and there's surely a chance of that -- we'd be pretty surprised if Jones wasn't the pick. For one, the Avs have spent multiple first-round choices on elite forward talent over the past few years while largely neglecting their back end. Also, the story of Jones' possible return to Denver, where he learned to play hockey while his father, Popeye Jones, played for the Denver Nuggets of the NBA, is about as poetic as they come. This all sounds like standard pre-draft posturing at this point.
Jaromir Jagr skips out on Tuesday skate | 05/21/2013 12:29 PM
News
Jaromir Jagr didn't take part in Tuesday's optional skate but will play in Game 3 tonight.
Steve Zipay on Twitter

Impact
Claude Julien wasn't the least bit concerned, saying Jagr knows his body and his conditioning. Plus, it's not like Jagr hasn't been putting in on-ice work on his own time. The 41-year-old winger apparently hit the ice in the hours after Tuesday's Game 2 win to work on his shot and his stickhandling.
Julien doesn't expect Seidenberg for Game 4 | 05/21/2013 12:18 PM
News
Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien isn't expecting Dennis Seidenberg (lower body) to return to the lineup for Tuesday's Game 4.
Bruins on Twitter

Impact
Seidenberg was out on the ice for the second straight day but apparently still has a little ways to go before returning to game action. Wade Redden (undisclosed) also appears unlikely to play Tuesday night. The Bruins have been able to weather the injuries to their blueline thanks to the outstanding play of young defenseman Torey Krug, who's scored two goals through the first two games of the series.
Justin Williams calls out Kings' top players | 05/21/2013 10:51 AM
News
Justin Williams said the Los Angeles Kings need more offense from their top players.
Los Angeles Daily News

Impact
"It's going to take our best players, myself at the top of the list, to get more offense," Williams said. "Plain and simple, your guys who produced during the year need to produce just as much, if not more, during the playoffs." Williams has just two points in the playoffs -- a goal and an assist -- and nothing in the three games against San Jose. The Kings have a 2-1 series lead but have scored just seven goals in the three games. While Mike Richards and Jeff Carter each have three points in the series, regular-season scoring leader Anze Kopitar hasn't registered a point since May 8 and is likely one of the people Williams is not-so-subtly addressing.
Pekka Rinne expects better year after surgery | 05/21/2013 10:39 AM
News
Pekka Rinne said he expects to be much better next season after undergoing hip surgery.
The Nashville Tennessean

Impact
Rinne wouldn't blame his sub-par year on the injury, but he was pretty clear about how much he expects it to help matters. "I'm positive it will be better," Rinne said Monday. "Right now I'm just happy it's taken care of and hopefully I can return stronger. I'm sure once I get back on the ice, I'll notice the biggest differences." Rinne is expected to remain on crutches for six more weeks and hopes to ready to play by the time training camp opens in September.
Report: Preds fire associate coach Horachek | 05/21/2013 10:35 AM
News
The Nashville Predators fired associate coach Peter Horachek, sources close to the team told The Tennessean on Monday.
The Nashville Tennessean

Impact
Horachek has been with the Predators organization since the 2002-03 season when he was hired to coach Nashville's AHL affiliate. In 2003, he joined the staff of the NHL club and was promoted to associate coach prior to the 2011-12 campaign.
Oilers' AHL club just misses deadly tornado | 05/21/2013 10:24 AM
News
The deadly tornado that tore through Oklahoma on Monday was only half a mile from the practice facility of the Oilers' AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City.
Edmonton Sun

Impact
"All of our guys are safe and accounted for," said Barons general manager Bill Scott. "We're good. Our guys live on the north side of the city or in the downtown area. Our staff was in the office downtown. Some of them live in Moore but all are accounted for." The storm absolutely devastated the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore, leveling houses for blocks at a time. Defenseman Alex Plante is one of the players who lives in Moore. "I'd come downtown for a dentist appointment and the family I was staying with in Moore, who adopted three Downs Syndrome kids, managed to get the kids out of their school before the lockdowns," said Plante, who also noted he didn't want to see the damage caused by the storm.
Jakub Kindl finally getting chance as regular | 05/21/2013 9:44 AM
News
Jakub Kindl is finally getting a chance to be a regular defenseman and has three assists and a plus-3 rating in 10 postseason games.
Detroit News

Impact
Kindl settled into his role midway through the regular season after spending the past two years as an extra defenseman. With Brad Stuart and Nicklas Lidstrom no longer in Detroit, the Red Wings needed the former first-round pick to step up. Kindl has been huge for us," Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. "He's found confidence." Kindl credits the new confidence to the lockout, when he played major minutes for a team in the Czech Republic. "Once the season started, I came here and was I ready," Kindl say.
Red Wings not getting locked in on 2-1 lead | 05/21/2013 9:33 AM
News
The Detroit Red Wings had a familiar refrain after Monday's Game 3 win, telling reporters "we haven't done anything yet."
Detroit News

Impact
It's the sound of a team with veteran leadership and a weathered coach who's seen far too much to think anything is assured beyond Detroit's 2-1 series lead. Still, it's impressive that a Red Wings team that had to win out the last week of the season just to make the playoffs has put the rival Blackhawks on their heels for probably the first time all year. "Let's be honest, we haven't done anything yet," coach Mike Babcock said. "As the year has gone one we've gotten better. You have to play good enough and long enough to get some confidence."
Blackhawks 'not talking' about starting Emery | 05/21/2013 8:45 AM
News
Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said he won't talk about starting Ray Emery in Thursday's Game 4.
Chicago Tribune

Impact
"We're not talking about that right now. (Corey Crawford) is fine," Quenneville said after Crawford allowed three goals on 30 shots in Chicago's second straight loss. It's hard to disagree with Quenneville's logic despite the loss. Crawford has been excellent most of this postseason and Monday's loss was hardly all on him, but there will be some serious questions if Chicago loses Game 4 and heads home down 3-1 in the series.
Blackhawks livid over goalie interference | 05/21/2013 8:40 AM
News
The Chicago Blackhawks were adamant Andrew Shaw didn't interfere with goalie Jimmy Howard on what would've been the game-tying goal in Monday's Game 3.
Chicago Tribune

Impact
Shaw was called for goalie interference after it appeared that Viktor Stalberg scored to tie game 2-2. Unfortunately for Chicago, the referee called the goal off almost immediately after he ruled Shaw impeded Howard's progress by occupying the crease. While Stalberg was more diplomatic about the call, coach Joel Qunneville didn't mince words after the game. "I disagree with the call -- didn't touch the goalie," Quenneville said.
Will the Capitals re-up Matt Hendricks? | 05/21/2013 8:35 AM
News
Matt Hendricks will get offers from other teams if the Washington Capitals don't sign him to an extension before free agency opens on July 5.
Washington Times

Impact
He can play left wing and center, take faceoffs, block shots, hit and work on the penalty kill. "I think I've established myself more in this league," Hendricks said. "Proved I can play throughout the lineup - special teams, penalty kill, things like that. I'm pretty good at faceoffs. I think I'm just more of an established player at this level." Washington GM George McPhee praised Hendricks for his work, but it's unclear if the team wants to commit to the longer term deal that he is reportedly seeking. Hendricks hopes to be back with the Capitals though and several of his teammates want that to happen as well.
Report: Talk of Roy-Avalanche deal premature | 05/21/2013 8:26 AM
News
Patrick Roy is not yet the new head coach of the Colorado Avalanche and talk of a deal being done is "premature," according to RDS' Renaud Lavoie.
Renaud Lavoie on Twitter

Impact
The Denver Post quoted Roy's brother, Stephane, early Monday morning as saying Patrick Roy would be named the Avs' next head coach. Stephane Matteau said the Avs and his brother were discussing the "final details" of a contract. Patrick Roy has been considered a frontrunner, but we'll wait until we see something a little more official before jumping to any conclusions.

News

Toronto Sun

Impact
Leafs' vice-president of hockey operations Dave Poulin made the announcement after further X-rays were done. Kostka sustained the injury in Game 1 against Boston and wasn't able to play for the rest of the series. He is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and it's unclear if he'll be back with Toronto.
Mikhail Grabovski admits to biting Pacioretty | 05/21/2013 8:15 AM
News
Mikhail Grabovski admitted, in an published interview Monday, that he bit Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty back on Feb. 9.
Toronto Sun

Impact
"He was choking me and I bit him," Grabovski told Yahoo!'s Dmitry Chesnokov. "Don't stick your hands where you shouldn't. To be honest with you he was choking me pretty hard, to the point where I really couldn't breathe. And I couldn't pull his hand away at all. I tried to hit him with my other hand, but I couldn't because he was choking me. There was nothing left to do but bite him." The NHL investigated the incident but no suspension was given because they couldn't prove that a bite occurred, but it doesn't matter now.
Lecavalier wants to stay in Tampa Bay | 05/21/2013 8:06 AM
News
Vincent Lecavalier doesn't want to go anywhere.
St. Petersburg Times

Impact
"Yeah, I want to be here. I want to play here the rest of my career and I've always said that and will keep saying it," said the long-time Tampa Bay Lightning. "I've been here for 15 years now. I'm proud to be part of this organization." He's signed until 2020 and has a no-trade clause. Lecavalier was disappointed with how Tampa finished the 2013 campaign after a promising start, but he doesn't feel like the team is far away from returning to the playoffs.
Joe Vitale could return for Game 4 Wednesday | 05/21/2013 7:55 AM
News
Joe Vitale wasn't able to play Sunday because of an undisclosed injury, but coach Dan Bylsma said it is "likely" that Vitale will participate in Tuesday's practice.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Impact
Prior to missing Game 3 against Ottawa, Vitale had skated in Pittsburgh's previous four contests. Depending on how Tuesday's skate goes, he might be ready to return for Game 4 on Wednesday night.
Jussi Jokinen may be back for Game 4 | 05/21/2013 7:50 AM
News
It's possible that Jussi Jokinen could return to Pittsburgh's lineup in Game 4 to help his team on faceoffs.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Impact
He has been scratched for the past five playoff games, but it's unclear if he is feeling 100 percent healthy. "He's a guy who has played big games," coach Dan Bylsma said Monday. "It's tough having him not in there with our lineup. But we haven't decided on our lineup for Game 4 yet."
Matt Cooke has been solid during playoffs | 05/21/2013 7:46 AM
News
Matt Cooke got his first point of the playoffs in Sunday's 2-1 double overtime loss to Ottawa.
Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Impact
He picked up the only assist on Tyler Kennedy's second marker of the postseason. His contributions on offense have obviously been lacking, but his overall game hasn't gone unnoticed by his teammates or the coaching staff. "He's pretty unbelievable right now," Kennedy said. "Cookie's always a good player, but he's really getting it done right now. He's a great leader, too." Cooke tied Craig Adams with a team-high six hits in Game 3 and he has racked up a total of 39 in nine playoff outings. He's also played great defensively.

No update on Chris Neil's status | 05/21/2013 7:32 AM
News
Chris Neil had to be helped off the ice in the second overtime session Sunday night, but his status wasn't updated Monday.
Ottawa Sun

Impact
"Nothing to update," said coach Paul MacLean about Neil after the Ottawa tough guy wasn't at the rink on Monday. If he's not available to play in Game 4 Wednesday then Matt Kassian or Guillaume Latendresse are the likeliest candidates to replace him.
Rangers glad to be back on home ice | 05/21/2013 7:13 AM
News
The New York Rangers will be seeking some more home cooking when they host the Boston Bruins in Game 3 on Tuesday night.
New York Newsday

Impact
The Blueshirts posted a 16-6-2 record at home during the regular season and they went 3-0 in their own building against the Washington Capitals in the first round of the playoffs. "All through the year and during the playoffs, it's been good to us," coach John Tortorella said. "We've won games here. That's what we have to do -- not win two at home. We need to win one game at home. And that's our total focus. [Home ice] helps us. As you see through the playoffs, it helps. We're anxious to get going."
Rangers hope to see more from Rick Nash | 05/21/2013 7:09 AM
News
Rick Nash played on three different lines in Sunday's loss to Boston and John Tortorella plans to play him "a lot" as the series shifts to New York for Games 3 and 4.
New York Newsday

Impact
Armed with the last change it should make it easier to get Nash away from Bruins captain Zdeno Chara, who always draws the assignment to shut down the opposition's best. Nash scored his first goal of the playoffs on Sunday and the Rangers are hoping he can get on a bit of a roll now.
Henrik Lundqvist ready to rebound in Game 3 | 05/21/2013 6:56 AM
News
Henrik Lundqvist is not happy with his performance from Game 2's loss to Boston, so we should see a motivated Rangers goaltender in Game 3 Tuesday night as New York attempts to get back into the series.
The Bergen Record

Impact
"It's disappointing to give up five goals, but also positioning-wise and reading plays for the most part was good," Lundqvist said. "It's just they made some good plays, too. There were some unlucky bounces and screens. I could probably find excuses for the goals, but that's not going to help my game. I just have to try to do better and work even harder to see pucks."
Andrew Ference hasn't resumed skating | 05/21/2013 6:48 AM
News
Andrew Ference (lower body) hasn't resumed skating yet and it doesn't look like he will be back in Boston's lineup any time soon.

Bruins may face hard decisions on back end | 05/21/2013 6:44 AM
News
The Boston Bruins may have a difficult decision to make when some of their veteran defensemen are available to return to the lineup from their respective injuries.
Boston Herald

Impact
Dennis Seidenberg and Wade Redden appear to be close to returning after practicing with the team on Monday, but the Bruins have benefited from solid performances by young blueliners Dougie Hamilton, Torey Krug and Matt Bartkowski in their absences. When Seidenberg, Redden or Andrew Ference are able to dress again it will be interesting to see what adjustments coach Claude Julien makes to his lineup. Changes may come as early as Game 3 Tuesday night, so stayed tuned for details during the morning skate.
B's Thornton wants more offense from 4th line | 05/21/2013 6:32 AM
News
Shawn Thornton wants Boston's fourth line to contribute offensively as well as provide energy.
Boston Herald

Impact
Thornton doesn't have a point in nine playoff games, but his linemates Gregory Campbell and Daniel Paille have contributed a goal and an assist each. "We want to try and take some pressure off the big lines. You can't rely on them all the time," Thornton said. "Obviously this time of year, your best players have to be your best players, but if we chip in every now and again, it helps out. We've been a little snake-bitten, too. We've had some chances. They just weren't going in, so I was happy to see one go in for (Campbell) last game."
Report: Patrick Roy new coach of Avalanche | 05/21/2013 3:00 AM

Denver Post

Impact
Stephane Roy, the younger brother of Patrick, said: "They're discussing the final details of an arrangement. Colorado is going to be very happy. Patrick is looking for a new challenge." Roy was considered a front runner for the job as soon as Joe Sacco was relieved of his coaching duties after the end of the season. All sides would not comment but do not be surprised if there is an announcement in the next couple of days. Stay tuned.
Jonathan Toews shut down again by Red Wings | 05/20/2013 11:44 PM
News
Jonathan Toews was held pointless for the second straight game by the Detroit Red Wings.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
The Red Wings have made it a point in each of the last two games to close on Toews as soon as he gets the puck. The Blackhawks' captain did still manage seven shots Monday after registering just three in Game 2, but it's clear Detroit isn't going to allow him any room to operate. Thursday's Game 4 sounds like a pretty good time for him to score his first goal of the postseason.
