"Nash has a no-move clause in his contract in force through the end of this season that management has no intention of asking him to waive and No. 61 has no intention of volunteering to forfeit," Brooks writes. "The Rangers are not asking Nash to leave town after two seasons on Broadway in which he led the team in goal-scoring both times, and No. 61 is not asking for an exit from New York after recording a sum of four goals in 37 playoff games. The concept is not on the table for either party."

But to think about how far we went as a team after the way we started the season was something that was very rewarding personally."

Dan Boyle signs with Rangers for 2 years | 07/01/2014 12:47 PM
News
The Rangers have signed Dan Boyle to a two-year, $9 million contract.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
This is a very good signing by the Rangers who desperately needed to improve their power play. Boyle will certainly help in that regard as he will man the point on the team's top unit. We expect Boyle to register 40-50 points this upcoming season, which will make him a top 25 defenseman from a fantasy perspective.

The agent for Anton Stralman said that the New York Rangers are officially out on his services.
Pierre LeBrun on Twitter

Impact
It's hard to imagine that Stralman is one of the more coveted free agents this season but it is a weak pool so he will likely get a nice contract. He had a goal and 13 points in 81 games for the Rangers.

Rangers in tough as far as cap is concerned | 06/30/2014 8:17 AM
News
The New York Rangers may be in tough with the salary cap two million dollars less than anticipated.
New York Daily News

Impact
The Rangers are about $24 million under the cap after doing the compliance buyout of Brad Richards but still have to sign restricted free agents Mats Zuccarello, Derick Brassard, Chris Kreider and John Moore while Anton Stralman, Benoit Pouliot, Brian Boyle, Dominic Moore and Dan Carcillo are slated to become unrestricted free agents. There is no way they can keep everyone so some tough decisions will have to be made in the next 24-48 hours.

The Bergen Record

Report: Rangers won't 'pay to keep' Dom Moore | 06/28/2014 8:15 PM
News
The Rangers don't seem willing to "pay to keep" Dominic Moore, according to Larry Brooks of the NY Post.
NY Post

Impact
Moore is reportedly seeking a three-year deal between $1.6 million and $1.85 million per season. The Masterton Trophy winner was the Rangers' best face-off man and was exceptional on the penalty kill, along with being an integral piece to the fourth line. He notched 18 points last season, with eight more in the playoffs. Sure, the Rangers have key restricted free agents to sign and will be tight to the cap, but it's still odd to hear them being priced out of their unrestricted free agents.
Jets touched base with Brian Boyle | 06/28/2014 7:15 PM
News
The Jets are among the teams that have talked with Brian Boyle.
Ken Wiebe on Twitter

Impact
Boyle is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He earned $1.8 million last season, and should be due for a raise, which makes it tough to gauge whether the Rangers will be able to re-sign him. Boyle is a great penalty killer and bottom-six player who seems to raise his game even more in the playoffs.
Rangers must pay big to keep Benoit Pouliot | 06/28/2014 9:48 AM
News
Benoit Pouliot, who has worked on five consecutive one-year contracts for five different teams after his initial three-year entry-level deal, will receive multiple offers for at least $9 million over three years - if not more, according to The New York Post's Larry Brooks.
NY Post

Impact
It is unclear whether the Rangers will wish to meet that price for the erratic but ultimately productive 6-foot-4, 205-pound winger who became an integral part of the team's run in the second half of the year and through the playoffs. "Ben was amenable to staying in New York, and in fact we tried a number of times to get something done before the end of the season, but it didn't work out, and then we put everything on hold for the playoffs," Kent Hughes, Pouliot's agent, told The Post. "Ben likes it in New York, he likes playing for [coach] Alain [Vigneault], but at this point we haven't had any extensive conversations with the Rangers." Pouliot will be 28 in September.

Dominic Moore wins Bill Masterton Trophy | 06/25/2014 10:59 AM
News
Dominic Moore won the Bill Masterton Trophy.
The Bergen Record

Impact
Moore returned to the NHL for the 2013-14 campaign after skipping the 2012-13 campaign to grieve for his wife, who passed away from a rare form of liver cancer. "I really appreciate and feel very grateful for this award," Moore said. "It's an award I have a ton of respect for. Perseverance is something I've tried to bring to my life. I've had really good examples of perseverance over the years and none so much as my wife, Katie. So this award is very meaningful."
Martin St. Louis returns to Tampa on Nov. 26 | 06/22/2014 6:22 PM
News
The New York Rangers only away game against the Tampa Bay Lightning takes place on Nov. 26, setting the stage for a potentially emotional night for Martin St. Louis.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Naturally, injuries and other variables could mean that he might not even play at all. St. Louis seems to have a sense of the moment (he scored two goals after being snubbed by Team Canada, for instance), so Nov. 26 would be a no-brainer start for him, especially.
Rangers will spend Richards savings on RFAs | 06/22/2014 7:25 AM
News
The New York Rangers will spend most, if not all their savings on the Brad Richards buyout, on retaining their own restricted free agents.
NY Post

Impact
The Rangers will save over $6.6 million per season on the salary cap with the compliance buyout of Richards but will have to give it to Mats Zuccarello, Derick Brassard and Benoit Pouliot. The trio earned $5.65 million last season but will make upwards of $11 million in 2014-15. Do not expect the Rangers to be going after any big free agents when the frenzy begins on July 1.
Brad Richards not a good fit for the Devils | 06/22/2014 7:18 AM
News
Randy Miller of the Newark Star-Ledger does not think that Brad Richards would fit in with the New Jersey Devils.
Newark Star-Ledger

Impact
The Devils need scoring and some leadership and while Richards could provide both, he is not a fit according to Miller because he is already 34, he is not a number one center anymore, he is not a clutch player anymore and he will be too expensive. Richards had 20 goals and 51 points with the Rangers in 2013-14 and added five goals and 12 points in the Rangers run to the Stanley Cup Final.
Agent: Brad Richards OK with Tampa return | 06/21/2014 9:26 PM
News
Brad Richards would consider a return to Tampa Bay.
Joe Smith on Twitter

Impact
Richards officially hits the market July 1, after having his contract bought out by the Rangers. Pat Morris, his agent, said Richards would "certainly respond positively to interest from Tampa." Of course, this says nothing about whether the Lightning even have interest in him. Richards can still be an asset in the right situation, and his production now won't automatically need to be judged based on the huge contract he was under with the Rangers.
Rangers likely won't give Justin Falk QO | 06/21/2014 7:43 PM
News
The Rangers aren't expected to extend a qualifying offer to defenseman Justin Falk.
New York Post

Impact
Falk played 21 games, recording two assists, a minus-five rating and 20 penalty minutes. The Rangers would need to offer him a $1.025 million deal. They will likely look elsewhere for a sixth/seventh blueliner.
Rangers allot $4M to re-signing Stralman | 06/21/2014 7:39 PM
News
The Rangers have allotted about $4 million to re-signing Anton Stralman, according to Larry Brooks of the New York Post.
New York Post

Impact
The defenseman had a standout season for the Rangers, despite recording just 18 points in the regular season and playoffs. He drove the possession when he was on the ice and was great in a shutdown role. Thus, he'll be due a nice pay increase from the $1.8 million he made last season. It's just hard to say how much other teams value what he brings to the ice.

Brad Richards' buyout was a tough decision | 06/21/2014 3:54 PM
News
Rangers GM Glen Sather said the decision to buy out the remainder of Brad Richards' contract was "extremely difficult."
The Bergen Record

Impact
Sather said he has a great deal of respect for Richards. "Brad's leadership and guidance for our young players was invaluable to the organization," he said in a statement. "We are grateful to have had the professionalism and experience he brought as an example for our team to follow. Brad has been a very good player for us and an even better person. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
Brad Richards enjoyed time in New York | 06/21/2014 10:54 AM
News
Brad Richards enjoyed his three seasons with the New York Rangers.
NY Post

Impact
Richards had the last six years of his contract bought out by the Rangers on Friday and he is now an unrestricted free agent. "Tough last few days," Richards said in a statement. "I loved being a Ranger and living in New York and playing at MSG in front of great fans. Glen Sather, the management, and the owner, Mr. [James] Dolan, are all class acts. I want to thank them for letting me be a part of New York life and the Rangers family. With this decision finalized, I can now look forward to starting the next chapter of my career." The 34-year-old will now look elsewhere and he should have no trouble finding an interested team as he is still a top-six forward.
Sather: Richards buyout was very difficult | 06/20/2014 5:59 PM
News
New York Rangers GM Glen Sather said the decision to buy out Brad Richards was "extremely difficult" because of the respect Sather has for him.
Rangers.nhl.com on Twitter

Impact
Sather went on to praise Richards' leadership and guidance. The Rangers aren't buying out Richards' contract because he didn't have value. They're doing it because he's 34 years old and came with a $6,666,667 annual cap hit through 2019-20. They had the option to rid themselves of that cap hit entirely through a compliance buyout, but that option wouldn't have been available to them beyond this summer, so they had to act now.
Rangers have bought out Brad Richards | 06/20/2014 12:46 PM
News
Brad Richards has been bought out by the New York Rangers, according to multiple sources.
Nick Kypreos on Twitter

Impact
That's not in the least bit surprising. Richards isn't being bought out because he's a bad player, he's being bought out because the Rangers had a unique and time-sensitive opportunity to get out of the negative part of the heavily front-loaded, long-term contract they signed Richards too. By using a compliance buyout on him, which is something they wouldn't have been allowed to do past this summer, they can entirely wipe his $6,666,667 annual cap hit off the books. He would have otherwise cost the Rangers though much through 2019-20, which would have been a significant problem for the team given that Richards is already 34 years old. In effect, the Rangers got the short-term benefits of frontloading his contract without having to suffer for it when that cap hit persisted through his late-30s.
