Boyes registered 10 goals and 35 points in 48 games during the truncated regular season, while primarily on a line with John Tavares and Matt Moulson. Tavares thinks that the Isles should re-sign those three players too. "I hope we'll see all those guys back," he said. Nabokov posted 23-11-7 record with a 2.50 GAA and a .910 save percentage during the regular season prior to struggling in the playoffs against Pittsburgh's high-powered offense. We're just as excited about the prospects we have as the team that played this season. We've had some really good drafts and we have a prospect pool we like, not just some of the players at Bridgeport. It bodes well for the future." Nabokov does little to help Isles in OT loss | 05/11/2013 10:38 PM
News
Evgeni Nabokov kicked aside 17 of 21 shots as the Islanders were eliminated from the playoffs after their 4-3 overtime loss against the Penguins on Saturday night.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Facing a very dangerous offense in this series, Nabokov really was not very good, finishing with a 4.44 goals-against average and .842 save percentage in the playoffs. One could only imagine how the Islanders would've fared -- with the Pens clearly ripe for the taking -- had Nabokov even replicated his regular-season rates of a 2.50 goals-against average and .910 save percentage. Re-signing Nabokov isn't a terrible idea, but it's clear the Islanders need to go out and upgrade at goaltender in order to help them take the next step.

Colin McDonald and John Tavares scored the other goals, while Keith Aucoin chipped in with two helpers. Matt Carkner and Josh Bailey recorded an assist apiece as well.

It had the makings of another long night for the netminder, who yielded all three goals on the first eight shots of the game. But he rebounded in a big way after that, making 25 straight saves. Nabokov's veteran experience was on display as the game went on, often opting to cover the puck and slow the Pens' momentum, rather than forcing a pass to a teammate. The series is now tied 1-1, heading to New York for the first time since 2007. If Nabokov can continue this type of performance, the Isles have a chance in this series.
Okposo gets GWG, Isles come back to top Pens | 05/03/2013 9:55 PM
News
Kyle Okposo potted the game-winning goal in the Islanders' 4-3 come-from-behind win against the Penguins in Game 2 on Friday night.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Okposo was the catalyst for the Isles in this one, as his fight -- the first of his career -- against Matt Niskanen at 4:58 of the second period shifted momentum New York's way, when it was down 3-1. The Islanders would score three unanswered goals, one by Colin McDonald 14 seconds after the fight and the second by Matt Martin just over five minutes after that. Matt Moulson had a power-play marker in the first period. Mark Streit chipped in with two helpers. Any fear about John Tavares' first-game struggles carrying over can be put to bed, too, as he was superb, getting an assist, four penalty minutes and a team-high six shots on goal.
Matt Moulson moves off John Tavares' line | 05/03/2013 7:25 PM
News
Matt Moulson has been moved off John Tavares' wing and onto the second line.
Arthur Staple on Twitter

Impact
We point this out because the two have been nearly inseparable over the last four years, forming one of the best one-two punches in hockey. Moulson had 15 goals and 29 assists this year. Joshua Bailey, who had 11 goals and 19 points this season, has been moved up to left wing on the first line. For something that has worked so well, this screams of something of a desperation move, though we can understand that coach Jack Capuano wants to balance the lineup more.

Nabokov yanked in 2nd as Isles get blasted | 05/01/2013 10:39 PM
News
Evgeni Nabokov was yanked early in the second period of the Islanders' 5-0 loss to the Penguins in Game 1 of their first-round series on Wednesday night.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Nabokov was shaky, facing 15 shots and only 11 saves before being pulled 1:51 into the period. He can't be blamed for it all, though. The Isles weren't holding onto pucks and on defense were often running around without any direction, leaving their goalies on no-man's land. Kevin Poulin came on in relief, kicking away 10 of 11 shots. This is not the way the franchise wanted to play in its first playoff appearned since 2007.
John Tavares invisible, goes shotless in loss | 05/01/2013 10:32 PM
News
John Tavares was held without a shot in the Islanders' 5-0 loss in Game 1 of their first-round series with the Penguins.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Every player has an "off" game, but the Isles don't have the depth to get away with their best player being a nonfactor, especially against the Penguins in the most important games. Predictably, Tavares was the object of the Penguins' defense -- they limited his space and played him very physically -- and he didn't get a shot on goal for the first time all season, a span of 48 games. If Tavares is invisible, the first line will be, too. The result was Lubomir Visnovsky finishing with a team-high five shots. With the game out of hand, it became a penalty-fest: Marty Reasoner had 17 penalty minutes, while Matt Moulson, Travis Hamonic and Casey Cizikas all had 10 apiece.
Marty Reasoner may suit up in Game 1 | 05/01/2013 12:32 PM
News
Marty Reasoner appears as though he will play for the Islanders in Game 1 at Pittsburgh Wednesday night.
Arthur Staple on Twitter

Impact
Coach Jack Capuano said he "can do the job for us, no question." Reasoner hasn't played since April 4 and he doesn't have much NHL playoff experience, but he is a veteran player. Whether he plays or doesn't, he doesn't have any fantasy value.

News
Evgeni Nabokov has plenty of playoff experience on an Islanders team that doesn't have much.
New York Newsday

Impact
Offensive catalysts John Tavares and Matt Moulson will be making their postseason debuts Wednesday night, but Nabokov has appeared in 80 playoff games during his career. Moulson said Nabokov is "very vocal during games and during practices. He leads us not only with his play but also with his words." Tavares said that the goaltender's "composure and calmness really set a great example for us." Nabokov face a dangerous and deep Pittsburgh team in the postseason and many believe he'll have to stand on his head in impressive fashion for the Islanders to pull off an upset.

"I've always talked about being a very consistent player, playing at a high level consistently, and I'm still trying to find that," he said. "I'm trying to handle that on and off the ice, and I'm improving. It's part of getting older, part of being a part of this and obviously this time of year is a new experience for me. It's all another great challenge and something I'm looking forward to." Tavares had 28 goals and 47 points in 48 games during the regular season and he'll be the focal point of the Islanders' offensive attack in the playoffs as well.

New York Newsday

Impact

If someone out there wants to underestimate us, so be it. We can't control that." Grabner had 16 goals and five assists in 45 games during the regular season.
Tavares finishes with 47 points in 48 games | 04/28/2013 9:47 AM
News
For the second straight season, John Tavares fell just shy of a point-per-game pace.
New York Newsday

Impact
Tavares ended up with 28 goals and 47 points in 48 games. Those are certainly remarkable numbers and he's the single biggest reason why the Islanders are in the 2013 playoffs. At this point Tavares has established himself as a star forward and he should be putting up big numbers for years to come.

New York Newsday

Impact
Bailey had 11 goals and 19 points in 38 games, mostly due to his superb finish to the season. He scored six goals and four registered assists in 13 April games to help propel the Islanders into the playoffs. Bailey isn't likely to ever be a top-tier scorer, but he has developed into a complimentary piece for the Islanders.

News
Keith Aucoin scored the lone Islanders' goal in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Sabres Friday night.
Rotoworld.com

Impact
Sure, it was a gift from Ryan Miller, but Aucoin still managed to get his sixth of the season on the play. Overall, the 34-year-old has excelled at the AHL level during his professional career, but success in the NHL has eluded him so far. He has no fantasy value moving foward.
