NewsLightning winger Jonathan Drouin had his first goal of the season in the Lightning victory over the Jets, 4-2..
ImpactDrouin first had an assist on Steven Stamkos' goal in the first period, and then scored his first goal at the start of the second as Tampa Bay took a 2-0 lead. The Jets scored the next goal before the Lightning added two more goals to make it 4-1 at the end of the second. With Drouin playing with Stamkos, he has tremendous upside.

ImpactThe third overall pick of the 2013 draft is dealing with fracture, which should keep him sidelined for another 1-2 weeks. As of now Drouin is penciled in, as the left wing on Tampa's top line. If he is able to stay there, Drouin holds major sleeper potential.

Jonathan Drouin is new and improved | 07/03/2014 11:45 AM
NewsJonathan Drouin and the Tampa Bay Lightning believe heading back to junior last season made him a better player.
St. Petersburg Times
Impact"As the year went on, Jonathan got better and better," GM Steve Yzerman said. "What I really like is when he went back (to juniors), he was the No. 1 penalty killer, ran the power play, played in all situations. We watched him play. He was dominating at both ends of the rink. His game evolved over one year. He got the opportunity there to do it, and I believe he's a better player because of it." Drouin feels he's further along too, but he knows he still has work to do before he can play in the NHL. "I'm closer than I was last year," he said Wednesday. "But it's not given to you. They proved it to me last year." Having said that, it would be very surprising if Drouin wasn't playing for the Lightning in 2014-15.
Lightning will seek internal replacements | 06/30/2014 11:14 AM
NewsJonathan Drouin's chances of making the Lightning out of training camp improved when the team traded Nate Thompson, Teddy Purcell and B.J. Crombeen Sunday night.
St. Petersburg Times
ImpactGM Steve Yzerman expects those players to be replaced internally, so Drouin, Richard Panik and Brett Connolly will be intriguing players to watch at training camp. Tampa Bay may add some grit in free agency and a defenseman when free agency opens on Tuesday.

NewsJonathan Drouin and some of Tampa Bay's other top prospects will attend the team's summer development camp in July.
ImpactThe annual camp will run from July 2-6 and it will close with a 3-on-3 tournament on the final two days. It's a good warmup for the players before the NHL holds its prospect showcase tournaments prior to the start of training camps.

CDN director expects Drouin to play in WJC | 12/12/2013 10:24 AM
NewsTeam Canada's director of hockey operations and national teams, Scott Salmond, expects Jonathan Drouin to be fine to play in the World Junior Championships.
St. Petersburg Times
ImpactHe suffered a concussion last week while playing in the QMJHL and the tournament begins on Dec. 26 in Sweden. "I expect he'll be prepared and ready to go, for sure," Salmond told metronews.ca. "But that's a pretty broad statement without having him evaluated." We'll keep you posted on Drouin's status.

NewsTop Lightning prospect Jonathan Drouin was knocked out of Friday night's QMJHL game is reportedly experiencing "concussion-like symptoms."
Halifax Mooseheads on Twitter
ImpactThis year's second overall pick has 50 points through 23 games in major junior and is one of Team Canada's top players heading into the World Junior Hockey Championships. For now, the Halifax Mooseheads have announced Drouin will not return to Friday's game and will be re-evaluated by doctors on Saturday. The star was hurt after taking a hit from fellow Tampa Bay prospect Adam Erne. The Quebec Ramparts' forward was given a five minute major penalty and a game misconduct for the hit.
Drouin playing well with junior team | 11/02/2013 10:37 AM
NewsJonathan Drouin is playing very well for Halifax in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
ImpactAs you may recall, there was much talk that Drouin would start the season in the NHL with the Lightning, possibly on the team's first line with Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis. That did not come to pass. However, Drouin is still considered by many to be the best junior player in hockey right now. He has 19 points in 11 games in the QMJHL and remains a star in the making. If you are in a legacy/keeper league he is a must add as he will not doubt be a fantasy factor in the 2015-15 NHL campaign.
Jonathan Drouin will play more in junior | 09/30/2013 11:10 AM
NewsTampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman thought Jonathan Drouin would develop better at the junior level rather than seeing limited minutes in the NHL.
St. Petersburg Times
Impact"We think he's an incredible talent, a very intelligent player, great hockey sense, great vision," Yzerman said. "Our biggest concern was ice time. Where is he going to play? Who is he going to play with? The way we're set up front, he's not going to get the minutes we want him to play, so it's best he goes back to junior." Drouin should dominate the QMJHL this season.
Jonathan Drouin can't make Bolts final roster | 09/29/2013 2:04 PM
NewsIn a slight surprise, the Tampa Bay Lightning decided to send Jonathan Drouin back to the junior level.
Tampa Bay Lightning
ImpactDrouin, 18, seemed like he'd be a nice fit for the Bolts, possibly even complimenting Martin St. Louis and Steve Stamkos. That might be true, it just won't happen in 2013-14, so drop him if you decided to roll the dice with Drouin in deeper leagues.
Drouin still in the running for roster spot | 09/28/2013 11:24 AM
NewsThe Lightning brass are still debating whether to keep Jonathan Drouin in Tampa to start the season.
ImpactThe 18-year-old, who was selected thrid overall in the June draft, has been steadily improving during the pre-season and played his best game Thursday alongside Steve Stamkos and Martin St. Louis. "You definitely want to seem him improve, and I think (Thursday) was probably the best game he has played with us,'" Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said. "And it's baby steps. He's 18 and he's just trying to get his feel and, as any 18-year-old, he's trying to survive. He's done a pretty good job. (Thursday) he kept up with the pace. He wanted the puck on his stick, he made plays and and made errors like anybody else. But it's much more gratifying to see that he's improving every day instead of getting worse every day, so that's a good sign.'" The Bolts could keep Drouin for a nine-game trial before deciding his final fate. We suspect that is the route they will take. Needless to say, Drouin is immensely talented and will be a great pick for now and in the future.
Lightning face tough decision with Drouin | 09/26/2013 10:43 AM
NewsThe Tampa Bay Lightning are still mulling over what to do with prospect Jonathan Drouin.
St. Petersburg Times
ImpactHe entered training camp with a great of hype, after being selected third overall in the 2013 draft, and has displayed flashes of his potential. However, it hasn't been determined by the team if he's ready to step into the NHL on a full-time basis yet. "The jump from junior to the NHL is a massive one," coach Jon Cooper said. "I can't imagine a jump from junior to the NHL. It's just a fact he's playing a game with so much more pace than what he's used to, and it takes time to catch up. You can see he's progressing each game. He looks more comfortable than he did at the rookie tournament games (before camp), so that's a good sign that he's slowly catching up to the game. But it's going to take time. Take where he was drafted out of the picture and let's just let the player develop. I don't think we can judge Jonathan Drouin in one month of his rookie season." Drouin believes he's "learned a lot" from his first NHL camp and he'll play wherever he's told.
Jonathan Drouin skates with Tampa's top line | 09/23/2013 6:16 PM
NewsJonathan Drouin returned to the wing for a situational scrimmage on Monday and he played on the same line as Steve Stamkos and Martin St. Louis.
St. Petersburg Times
Impact"It was exciting to be on a line with those two guys," said Drouin after spending most of camp as a center. "They make plays. They're smart. It makes everything easier on the ice." We had been waiting for the Lightning to try out the third overall pick in the 2013 draft alongside their top guns. The trio will probably be used together in Tuesday's preseason game versus Nashville. If Drouin can start the regular season with Stamkos and/or St. Louis then his fantasy value increases substantially.
Jonathan Drouin will play wherever he's asked | 09/20/2013 8:08 AM
NewsJonathan Drouin centered Vladislav Namestnikov and Nikita Kucherov in his preseason debut Thursday night.
ImpactHe has been used in the middle since the beginning of training camp, but the Lightning aren't committed to playing him there. Drouin does have experience playing center and it doesn't matter to him what position he ends up drawing. He is getting more comfortable with his new surroundings and fantasy owners are waiting patiently for Tampa Bay to try him out alongside Martin St. Louis and/or Steve Stamkos at some point.
Drouin, Connolly excel during scrimmage | 09/17/2013 3:28 PM
NewsJonathan Drouin and Brett Connolly stood out on a line together during Tuesday's scrimmage.
St. Petersburg Times
ImpactDrouin set up Connolly to score the lone goal of the contest. Both players have a lot of promise and are serious contenders to make the team's opening game roster. Drouin is also a top candidate to win the Calder Trophy after being taken with the third pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
Drouin in awe of St. Louis and Stamkos | 09/04/2013 9:03 AM
NewsJonathan Drouin participated in an informal skate with 17 other Tampa Bay Lightning players on Tuesday.
ImpactHe got a chance to meet potential linemates Martin St. Louis and Steven Stamkos during the session. "Marty has pretty much been a legend in the NHL now for a long time, and Stamkos ..." Drouin said. "So, obviously, there are nerves and you don't want to do something bad." He will now take part in Tampa Bay's rookie training camp prior to playing against prospects from Nashville, Boston and Florida this weekend. If you get a chance, you should watch him play during the tournament. After that he will rejoin the Bolts for training camp.
Jonathan Drouin says his foot is 'fine' | 08/27/2013 12:46 PM
NewsJonathan Drouin says his bruised foot is "fine" and he's looking forward to Tampa Bay's pre-camp rookie workouts next week at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
St. Petersburg Times
Impact"I've been working out and everything, so everything is good," he said. Drouin has gained seven pounds of muscle during the summer, so he tips the scales at 195 pounds now. The third overall pick in the 2013 draft is projected to start the 2013-14 season with the Lightning and play on the top line with Steve Stamkos.
Bolts name Drouin to rookie tourney roster | 08/23/2013 11:43 AM
NewsJonathan Drouin will be on hand for the Lightning when the team's prospects play in a four-team rookie tournament next month.
ImpactFellow 2013 first-round pick Adam Erne, as well as former first rounders Slater Koekkoek and Vladislav Namestnikov will also be on Tampa Bay's roster for the tournament. J.T. Brown, Andrej Sustr and Nikita Kucherov will be on the roster as well.
Jonathan Drouin's foot injury isn't serious | 08/05/2013 12:16 PM
NewsJonathan Drouin has a bruised left foot, so he is being held out of the early skating sessions of Team Canada's summer junior development camp.
St. Petersburg Times
Impact"The foot was just sore after taking a puck off it a few days before camp," Hockey Canada spokesman Andre Brin wrote in an email. "Kept out of our two ice sessions in Montreal for precautionary reasons." Drouin, along with fellow returnees Nathan MacKinnon, Morgan Rielly and Griffin Reinhart, aren't accompanying the team to Lake Placid Monday afternoon for exhibition games against Finland, Sweden and the United States this week, so there wasn't a point to rushing him back onto the ice. The Canadian brass wants to see how the newer players perform.
Top prospect Jonathan Drouin has sore foot | 08/04/2013 6:01 PM
NewsHighly touted forward Jonathan Drouin was not on the ice Sunday when camp opened for players hoping to make Canada's world junior hockey championship team.
ImpactDrouin, drafted fourth overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in June, was told not to skate at the camp due to a sore foot, although the injury is not considered serious. He had recently been hit in the foot by a puck, a team spokesman said. Coach Brent Sutter has the group skating drills for two days at the Montreal Canadiens' practice facility before heading to Lake Placid, N.Y. to play exhibition games Wednesday against Finland, Thursday against Sweden and Saturday against the United States. It is a first step toward picking the team to represent Canada at the IIHF world under-20 championship Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Malmo, Sweden. Drouin was not scheduled to go to Lake Placid anyway, as coaches want to get a better look at the newcomers.
Jonathan Drouin impresses at prospect camp | 07/11/2013 10:39 AM
NewsJonathan Drouin has impressed the Tampa Bay Lightning during their prospect camp.
Impact"As many good players as we have (at the camp), Jonathan is a special player and a special person," Lightning director of amateur scouting Al Murray said. "He's been exposed to a lot of situations, and he was very calm in every situation professionally." Murray added that Drouin will challenge for a roster spot in the Lightning's training camp. Drouin inked an entry-level contract with Tampa Bay after being taken with the third pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Jonathan Drouin could be ready for NHL spot | 07/01/2013 2:45 PM
NewsThe Tampa Bay Lightning didn't have a problem choosing Jonathan Drouin over Seth Jones with the third overall pick in the 2013 draft.
ImpactThe Lightning had Drouin rated just above Jones on their list. "In Jonathan's case, he has a special compete level and a special skill set that you very rarely see come along," head scout Al Murray said. "When you see some of the things he can do and how he attacks people and beat people one-on-one and beat goaltenders, the best thing he does is set up other players around him. He really is a complete forward." Drouin expects to compete for a roster spot next season and he is considered to be NHL ready by several pundits.
