Wade Redden likely back in Boston lineup | 05/12/2013 10:49 AM
NewsBoston defenseman Wade Redden, who won't say what his injury is, wasn't ruling himself out for tonight's playoff game against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
Impact"It felt pretty good," Redden said after practicing with the Bruins Saturday. "I've been feeling better, so that's a positive. But it's a game-day decision." Redden was asked if it was a tough decision on whether to give it a go for Game 5 or it was obvious he should sit out, which he did. "It was pretty much an obvious thing," he said. "But like I said, it's turned the corner." Considering Redden was given a new lease on his NHL life this year after being banished to the AHL the previous two years by the New York Rangers, it's hard to imagine he'd take sitting out a playoff game lightly. He continues to stay positive, both with his situation and that of the team.
Wade Redden practices, still day-to-day | 05/11/2013 1:37 PM
NewsWade Redden practiced with the Boston Bruins on Saturday, yet his status remains day-to-day, according to head coach Claude Julien.
ImpactRedden's been valuable since being added to fold in Boston, though some might overrate that impact. In particular, many pundits point to Tyler Bozak's shorthanded goal as a moment Redden might have prevented. Either way, the Bruins would probably prefer to have the veteran in the lineup as they draw closer to their second attempt to close out the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Redden day-to-day with undisclosed injury | 05/11/2013 9:26 AM
NewsAs reported earlier, Wade Redden did not play in Friday night's 2-1 loss to Toronto.
ImpactHe has an undisclosed injury and should be considered day-to-day. Redden must bide his time to play | 04/06/2013 8:33 AM
NewsDon't expect Wade Redden to be in the lineup against the Canadiens Saturday night.
ImpactHe practiced alongside Aaron Johnson in the Bruins' fourth defensemen pairing in Friday's scrimmages. Redden seems to understand his role in Boston, though. "I think they had a pretty good defense already, so I'm just going to fill in where things open up,'' Redden said. From a fantasy perspective, Redden is irrelevant.
Wade Redden unlikely to play Thursday | 04/04/2013 9:51 AM
NewsWade Redden will travel to Boston Thursday, but he's not projected to play against New Jersey.
ImpactThe Bruins acquired the veteran defenseman from St. Louis prior to Wednesday's deadline to help with their transition game and serve as a depth option. NewsWade Redden might play in his 1,000th career game on Thursday.
ImpactIt's been a long and difficult journey for Redden. He spent two seasons in the minors because the Rangers wanted to bury his cap hit. Now he's finally back in the NHL and already has two goals in five games with the Blues. He might have some limited fantasy value in standard leagues this season, but he's a risky pickup.

Impact"He said he feels better, but we'll see how he's doing later," coach Ken Hitchcock said. Redden has tallied two goals and six shots in his first three games with the Blues, while seeing 18:38 of average ice time per contest. Consider him day-to-day.
Wade Redden scores first for Blues | 01/27/2013 9:57 AM
NewsWade Redden scored his first goal with the St. Louis Blues in Saturday's 4-3 win over Dallas.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactRedden's goal opened the scoring for St. Louis and was his first NHL marker since March 18, 2010 which, ironically, came against the Blues."It felt good," Redden said. "Actually, I wasn't sure it didn't hit (Ryan) Reaves on the way through. I'm still not sure." He's not likely to make much of an impact in your fantasy league, but Redden's revival is a god-news story nonetheless.
D Wade Redden not bad in debut for St. Louis | 01/26/2013 1:13 PM
NewsNewcomer Wade Redden had a few rough moments with the puck in the St. Louis Blues' 3-0 win over Nashville on Thursday, but he only put his team into real danger once.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactHe also took a late interference penalty that gave Nashville one last chance to spoil Halak's shutout. The Blues' penalty killing unit picked him up after that mishap. It'll be interesting to see how much he can help the defensive corps once he settles in and gets back to NHL speed.
Wade Redden set to play first game with Blues | 01/24/2013 6:18 PM
NewsWade Redden will be paired with Alex Pietrangelo in his St. Louis debut on Thursday night.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Impact"He has experience, a veteran presence, a calming effect in the dressing room," Pietrangelo said. "He's a guy who's been through everything in this league. It's going to be good to have him in here. You can never have too many veteran guys that have a presence on the ice as well." The 35-year-old defenseman played his last NHL shift with the Rangers in April 2010 before ending up in the minors for the past two seasons. After he was bought out by New York, the Blues inked him to a one-year, $800,000 contract last week.

NewsWade Redden will not make his St. Louis Blues' debut on Monday.

Wade Redden passes physical with the Blues | 01/21/2013 12:44 PM
NewsWade Redden has passed his physical with the St. Louis Blues but will not be in their lineup on Monday.
ImpactCoach Ken Hitchcock still likes the way Redden skates so it's just a matter of time for him to get into the lineup. He has not played in the NHL since the 2009-10 season as the New York Rangers did not want his high salary to count against the cap. They bought him out last week and now we shall see if the Blues have a winner on its hands. We would leave him on the waiver wire for now but grab him quickly if he shows his old form.
Blues offer Wade Redden shot at redemption | 01/18/2013 2:34 PM
NewsThe St. Louis Blues have inked Wade Redden to a one-year, $800,000 deal.
Bob McKenzie on Twitter
ImpactRedden can earn up to $1 million if he unlocks his games played-related bonuses. Redden hasn't played in the NHL since the 2009-10 campaign because the Rangers wanted to bury his cap hit in the minors. That wasn't a favorable option with the new CBA, but the Rangers were able to use one of their compliance buyouts on him. Redden is worth keeping an eye on, but we can't recommend picking him up at this time.
Rangers use compliance buyout on Redden | 01/17/2013 6:48 PM
NewsWade Redden has been bought out by the New York Rangers.
Katie Strang on Twitter
ImpactThey exercised one of their compliance buyouts, so Redden's contract won't count against them from a cap perspective in 2013-14. Redden will now have the opportunity to play with an NHL squad in 2013. He's definitely worth keeping an eye on, especially given that he put up great numbers in the minors. At the same time, he hasn't played in the NHL in well over two years and at the age of 35, staging a successful comeback will be tough. With that in mind, don't pick him up in standard leagues unless he starts to produce with whatever club he ends up with.
Wade Redden clears waivers | 01/17/2013 1:38 PM
NewsWade Redden has cleared unconditional waivers.
Bob McKenzie on Twitter
ImpactThat opens the door for the New York Rangers to buyout his contract. Doing so won't rid them of his cap hit for this season, but it would give Redden the chance to play right away. Redden hasn't played in an NHL contest since the 2009-10 campaign, but he has done well in the minors. We certainly wouldn't expect much from him if he gets another shot with a different club, but he's worth keeping an eye on.
Report: Rangers waive defenseman Wade Redden | 01/16/2013 2:00 PM
NewsWade Redden has reportedly been placed on waivers, according to multiple sources.
ImpactThe Rangers are expected to buy out his contract following the decision of the NHL and NHLPA to allow teams to use their compliance buyouts prior to the start of the 2013 campaign. Redden has $10 million and two seasons remaining on a six-year, $39 million contract. He has played the past two seasons in the AHL and will be able to sign with any team as early as Thursday at noon once he clears waivers.
NHL, union reach deal on compliance buyouts | 01/15/2013 4:07 PM
NewsThe NHL and the NHLPA reached an agreement on compliance buyouts Tuesday, allowing teams to buy out a player before Saturday's opener.
Nick Kypreos on Twitter
ImpactThe window was originally scheduled for the summer after the 2013 season, but it became apparent that would need changing after Scott Gomez and Wade Redden were told by their teams to go home for the season to avoid injury. Teams will still have to suffer the cap hit this season if they buy out a player, but it would allow the player to play elsewhere this season. Expect Gomez and Redden to be bought out shortly by the Habs and Rangers, respectively. Gomez is likely to catch on with a team desperate for forward depth, while Redden's potential suitors remain more of a mystery.
Wade Redden might be traded | 01/11/2013 10:10 PM
NewsWade Redden's agent has been given permission to communicate with other franchises about his client.
Larry Brooks on Twitter
ImpactThe New York Rangers might be willing to absorb some of Redden's cap hit and salary in order to make a trade work. They won't invite him to training camp and he'll probably be bought out after this season if they can't trade him.
Rangers' best option: Pay Wade Redden to sit | 01/09/2013 9:48 PM
NewsThe Rangers have three options for what they can do with Wade Redden, and the most likely choice is to pay him not to play at any level, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
ImpactUnder the old CBA, the Rangers could just bury him in the minors and not have his contract count against the cap. But there are new rules now, and New York would still be on the hook for $5.6 million. The Rangers could trade him, but that would mean including draft picks and/or prospects, which they won't consider. New York could let him play in the AHL this year and take on his cap hit, but that risks injury -- if Redden got injured and it carried over to next season the Rangers could not use one of their compliance buyouts on him. The best option is to pay him to do nothing, this way the Rangers can sever ties with him for good next offseason.
Rangers have interesting to make with Redden | 01/09/2013 2:18 PM
NewsThe Rangers brass has met with the representatives of Wade Redden to discuss what direction the two sides will take going into this season.
New York Newsday
ImpactIn the new CBA, contracts over $900,000 can no longer be hidden away in the minors and his cap hit of $5.6 million would count against the team's salary cap for this season. Additionally, the Rangers can't buyout his contract until June. Redden has played the last two years in the minors.
