NewsBlackhawks center Teuvo Teravainen scored his first NHL goal of his career on Friday versus the Jets.
ImpactBlackhawks fans have been waiting for Teravainen to make an impact at the NHL level. Although the 20-year-old has potential, he isn't worth picking up in standard leagues. Perhaps he is worth a look in dynasty leagues.
Teuvo Teravainen isn't joining Hawks soon | 07/20/2014 10:14 AM
NewsAt 19, center Teuvo Teravainen has outstanding offensive skills, a fact that was reiterated to the Chicago Blackhawks at their recent development camp.
ImpactThe Hawks, however, don't think their 2012 first-round draft choice (18th overall) is ready for prime time just yet. While they did call on Teravainen for three games last season (no points), he'll likely begin next season with AHL Rockport. "It's going to take a number of years. . .He's only 19. There's a whole group of these young players where it's a process and you hope over the course of three or four years they're going to be able to develop not only there strength but the endurance," Hawks general manager Stan Bowman said. "The NHL season takes a toll on your body. Hopefully, you're playing over 100 games a year, so you're not going to be able to make those grounds up in just a few weeks of training. It's a process. I give him credit for taking it seriously. As a young player he's committed to becoming strong and working at it. We just have to be patient and allow those things to take time."
Teravainen still hopes to make Hawks' roster | 07/18/2014 6:58 PM
NewsTeuvo Teravainen still hopes to make the Chicago Blackhawks' opening game roster.
Brian Hedger on Twitter
ImpactTeravainen's chances of making the team were diminished when they signed Brad Richards. That gives the Blackhawks 12 forwards signed to one-way deals, not including Brandon Saad. Still, we wouldn't dismiss the possibility of Chicago trading away a forward before the season starts to free up some cap space. If that happened, Teravainen's chances of making the team would obviously improve.
Teuvo Teravainen feels ready for 2014-15 | 07/14/2014 9:26 AM
NewsTeuvo Teravainen has been bulking up this summer.
Impact"I feel good but it's been (a long) time without hockey so I think my body needs hockey," Teravainen said. "I'm ready this season. I can't wait." Teravainen will enter training camp with a good chance of making the team, although the addition of Brad Richards means he probably won't serve as a top-six forward. Teravainen is a great prospect and has the potential to eventually establish himself as a strong second-line center for Chicago.
Pressure's off Teuvo Teravainen | 07/02/2014 8:52 AM
NewsSigning Brad Richards to a one-year deal has taken some of the pressure off of Teuvo Teravainen.
ImpactTeravainen has a bright future ahead of him, but he's not a safe bet to be an impact player in 2014-15. Fortunately, he won't have to be because the Blackhawks are looking pretty good up the middle at this point. "(Teravainen) is going to dictate that when he's ready to go," Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman. "We don't have to force anything."
Teuvo Teravainen will have to impress at camp | 06/30/2014 11:35 AM
NewsChicago coach Joel Quenneville is eager to see what Teuvo Teravainen can do at training camp in the fall.
Impact"I'm sure he's going to grow (and) he's going to get stronger. I'm looking forward to seeing how he plays in camp," Quenneville said. "I expect some progress. We liked what we saw last year at the beginning of the year. He's going to make the decision for us with exactly where he's going to fit and where we're going to play him." Teravainen netted two goals in five games with AHL Rockford after he played three contests with Chicago this past season. It wouldn't be a shock if he spent most of the 2014-15 campaign in the minors, but he'll get a long look at camp.
Blackhawks won't rush Teuvo Teravainen | 06/05/2014 11:48 AM
NewsThe Blackhawks won't rush prospect Teuvo Teravainen.
ImpactIt wouldn't be surprising if he spent a good portion of the 2014-15 season shifting between the NHL and the AHL. "He's going to have to get stronger and playing away from the puck," coach Joel Quenneville said. "He'll adapt quickly to that." Teravainen didn't have a point in three games with Chicago this season, but he scored two goals in five appearances with Rockford in the minors.

NewsTeuvo Teravainen will be a healthy scratch Thursday.
ImpactCoach Joel Quenneville plans to use the rest of the season as an education process for the 19-year-old prospect, so it's unclear how much game action he'll receive. Teravainen may play Friday night against Columbus. He doesn't have a point in three outings with the Blackhawks.
Teravainen a healthy scratch Friday | 03/29/2014 12:02 PM
NewsTeuvo Teravainen was a healthy scratch against the Senators Friday night.
ImpactIt is all part of the aclimation process to the NHL. Chicago coach Joel Quenneville has liked what he has seen from the Fiinish rookie but wants him to shoot more rather than pass when he is in a scoring area. "Offensively, you think of shooting," Quenneville said. "He has the puck in some good areas there, and he looks like he wants to dish a lot of times, but think of getting it to the net yourself, and get some action off of that." Look for Teravianen to be back in the lineup Sunday against the Penguins. We love his potential so keep a close watch on him and don't be afraid to pick him up if you are in a dynasty league.
Teuvo Teravainen earns praise from Coach Q | 03/26/2014 8:34 AM
NewsTeuvo Teravainen didn't light up the stat sheet in his first NHL game Tuesday night, but coach Joel Quenneville liked what he saw.
Impact"His awareness around the rink, both sides of the puck (and) in the faceoff circle were very strong," Quenneville said. "I thought he did a nice job. Good start." He went 7-for-7 in the faceoff dot, but didn't have a shot or a point in 11:39 of ice time.

NewsTeuvo Teravainen confirmed that he will make his NHL debut on Tuesday.

ImpactTeravainen is making the adjustment to North American hockey, so we would recommend tempering expectations in the short term. However, the 19-year-old forward is very talented and should be one of the league's top rookies next season.
Teuvo Teravainen in Tuesday, not Sunday | 03/23/2014 5:24 PM
NewsTeuvo Teravainen won't play for the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday, but will get into action on Tuesday.
Tracey Myers on Twitter
ImpactIt's difficult to say how the talented and much-heralded forward will fit into the mix in Chicago, so it wouldn't be wise to add him without seeing how he may figure in. He could be especially useful in the playoffs, though.
Teravainen could play Sunday v Preds | 03/22/2014 12:29 PM
NewsTuevo Teravainen, who arrived in Chicago Friday, joined his new teammates for the tail end of practice.
ImpactHe may need a few more practices before getting a chance to play in an NHL game. However if both Brandon Saad and Bryan Bickell are unable to play Sunday against Nashville, Teravainen could draw in. The 19-year-old is a huge talent (44 points in 49 games for Jokerit in the top Finnish league) and should be picked up in all legacy/keeper leagues by teams rebuilding without delay.
Teravainen could join Blackhawks soon | 03/11/2014 6:07 PM
NewsTeuvo Teravainen is expected to join the Blackhawks after his campaign with Finland's Jokerit Helsinki is over.
ImpactJokerit's campaign might end on Sunday, but they're still in the running for a playoff spot. He was taken with the 18th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Since then he's excelled in the Finnish league, scoring nine goals and 43 points in 47 games in 2013-14.

Teravainen returns to Finland as planned | 09/21/2013 12:41 PM
NewsRookie Teuvo Teravainen left to play in Finland Friday.
The Daily Herald
ImpactThis move was planned as the Hawks' first-round pick in 2012 could use another year of seasoning and he is not needed in Chicago as the team's roster is strong. That said, Teravainen was very impressive in the two pre-season games he played this past week. Remember his name. He could be an impact player in a couple of years.
Hawks will return Teuvo Teravainen to Finland | 09/16/2013 11:17 AM
NewsTeuvo Teravainen has impressed at camp, but coach Joel Quenneville has decided that he'll return to Finland for another season.
Impact"He'll play over there, but it's nice knowing that we have a real nice piece coming," Quenneville said. "With Europeans, when you give them that extra year when they come over here they're stronger and they're ready for the grind. He could turn out to be a real special player and being patient with him is definitely the right thing to do." The Hawks are still a deep team, so the move makes sense. Teravainen will get plenty of playing time overseas and there's no need to rush him.
Teuvo Teravainen aiming to crack Hawks roster | 09/14/2013 9:39 AM
NewsConventional thinking heading into the Chicago Blackhawks' training camp was that, at 19, Teuvo Teravainen was a lock to return to Europe for another season but the club's top pick (18th overall) in the 2012 NHL entry draft is beginning to change minds.
ImpactA center from Finland, Teravainen is flashy with high-end offensive skills and has dazzled decision-makers with the Stanley Cup champions early in camp, to the point where they are beginning to think about including him on this season's roster. "He does a lot of nice things," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "In the middle of the ice you notice him. Playing with him, you probably have to be sharp and ready because the puck is going to be on your stick quicker than you think. You like his awareness and wanting the puck, and his play recognition is high end. The quickness with his hands is special." Teravainen is undergoing a shift from wing to center, where the Hawks hope he will develop into a long-term solution at the position.

He's expected to remain in Europe for another year before coming over to North America.
