ImpactAt least right now. Miller is a promising forward and it is important for him to get professional games under his belt. Hopefully, the wrist injuiry will heal sufficiently to allow him to return to action before the NHL and AHL seasons come to an end. Miller was sent down to the AHL Wednesday to make him eligible for the AHL playoffs but was immediately recalled. Consider Miller day-to-day.

NewsWith the demotion of Chris Kreider to the AHL it is looking as if J.T. Miller will remain with the Rangers beyond his fifth game of the season.

ImpactIf he suits up Sunday, it will be his sixth game and his entry-level contract will kick in this season. Miller is more versatile than Kreider as he can play center. The Rangers certainly could use a little more help down the middle than on the wings given Brad Richards' sudden bout with mediocrity.

ImpactMiller was a minus-one in 9:41 in the overtime loss, which doesn't seem all that bad, however he did receive a total of one shift after the second period. The Rangers are 3-1-1 with Miller in the lineup, as he has provided them with more depth, even if his ice time has been limited at times.

ImpactThe coach is quick to point out that his first goal is developing the 19-year-old , and that he won't jump the gun in assessing him, but he likes what he sees. "He has a lot of puck poise for such a young kid," Tortorel-la said. "He's got some bite to him. I'd rather have a guy that you need to tame a little bit as he's learning to be a pro rather than [try] to get someone to play with some spunk like that. He's got some good strut to his game. We just have to make sure he doesn't cross the line the other way. He's done that a few times along the way." It's only been two games, but Miller is quickly establishing a spot for himself in the lineup.

ImpactThe markers were the first of his NHL career after he made his debut Tuesday. One of them came on the power play in the second period. Defenseman Ryan McDonagh had a goal (empty netter) and an assist in the contest, while Marian Gaboril scored the team's other tally.

ImpactThe 19-year-old received 14:25 of ice time, including 4:35 on the power play. He concluded the contest with two shots, one hit and a plus-1 rating. The started the game alongside Chris Kreider and newcomer Darroll Powe, but he also saw action with Brad Richards as the match reached the latter stages. Kreider had a good game of his own, with his first goal of the year, as the Rangers' rookies were the bright spots of the game in a 3-1 loss to New Jersey.
