ImpactKlefbom might make his NHL debut on Friday after being selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He's a defensive defenseman, which is great for the Oilers but will make him a non-factor in standard fantasy leagues.
Oscar Klefbom likely to start in minors | 09/09/2013 7:14 AM
NewsOscar Klefbom is likely to start the season with Oklahoma City of the AHL.
ImpactKlefbom is a highly regarded defenseman with the Oilers after being drafted 19th overall in the 2011 Draft. He underwent shoulder surgery in November and has not played since so the recently turned 20-year-old could use some time in the minors since it will be almost a year since he last played. It also does not help his cause that he will be spending his first season in North America and that is always a big adjustment for most Europeans. He should be in the Oilers lineup at some point this season. He is not an offensive defenseman so we cannot recommend him in fantasy pools.
Klefbom back to playing competitive hockey | 09/05/2013 10:05 AM
NewsOscar Klefbom (shoulder) is back to playing in competitive hockey games after 11 months.
ImpactKlefbom, who had shoulder surgery in November, will be participating in a rookie game on Thursday. "It's been a long time," Klefbom said. "(But) I've had a really good summer. I had a good chance to prepare myself for the season." In addition to returning from a major injury, he's also making the transition from the Swedish Hockey League to North America.
MacTavish thinks Klefbom close to NHL ready | 07/29/2013 10:16 AM
NewsEdmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish thinks very highly of Oscar Klefbom.
ImpactKlefbom was selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He's making the transition to North America after spending some time in the Swedish Elite League. "It's never a bad thing to get a little of experience in the American Hockey League, but he's very, very close because he did play last year against men (in the Swedish Elite League) for a short period of time before he got hurt," MacTavish said. The Oilers have seven defensemen signed to one-way contracts and that doesn't even include Justin Schultz. With that in mind, Klefbom is a long shot to make the team out of training camp.
Oscar Klefbom ready for the NHL | 07/04/2013 8:16 AM
NewsDefenseman Oscar Klefbom thinks he is ready to play in the NHL.
ImpactKlefbom underwent shoulder surgery in November and is now fully recovered. He played 11 games for Farjestad of the Swedish Elite League last season, picking up three assists and a plus-seven rating. "I haven't played since the accident, but the shoulder feels good," Klefbom said. "I can shoot slap shots and do all the things you need to do on the ice. Right now it's 100%. Lifting weights in the gym it feels very stable, the left shoulder almost feels better than the right one. I haven't played a game since October but the training feels good and the shot as well, so we'll see." Klefbom is highly regarded and was drafted 19th overall in the 2011 Draft. He is worth a flier in deep keeper leagues at this time.
Oscar Klefbom in Edmonton for two weeks | 02/21/2013 9:54 AM
NewsDefenseman Oscar Klefbom (shoulder) is in Edmonton for a couple of weeks to bond with his future teammates.
ImpactKlefbom suffered a shoulder injury in November that required season-ending surgery. Coach Ralph Krueger is having him watch other defensemen in game action while he is travelling with the team. "I had him observe Nick Schultz, Ladi Smid, Jeff Petry, Mark Fistric on our defensive structure against Los Angeles. I want some feedback from Oscar. We're giving him some assignments," Krueger said. "I want him to visualize what kind of role he can have with us." Look for Klefbom to make the Oilers next season, if not at the beginning of the season, then at least part way through.
