Cory Conacher hopes he can stay with Buffalo | 04/22/2014 6:01 PM
NewsAt the age of 24, Cory Conacher is already on his third NHL team, but he's hoping that he can stick with Buffalo.
Impact"I want to be with this team longer than I've been with Tampa and Ottawa," Conacher said. "I want to help this team win games. I want to be part of the solution that Tim Murray and Teddy Nolan are planning with this team." That will depend on whether Sabres GM Murray wants to make Conacher a qualifying offer before he becomes a free agent. Conacher had a strong start to his career in Tampa Bay when he was playing alongside Steven Stamkos, but the Lightning traded him and his tenure with Ottawa ended with him being waived. He had just seven goals and 26 points in 79 contests as a sophomore.
Cory Conacher hopes to bounce back next year | 04/22/2014 7:49 AM
NewsCory Conacher notched three goals and three assists in 19 games with the Buffalo Sabres after he was claimed off waivers from Ottawa on March 5.
ImpactHe didn't have a point in his last eight games and his ice time dropped as a result. Conacher had also been drawing plenty of penalties, but in Buffalo he wasn't as effective. He was assessed eight penalties in Buffalo and drew only nine. Conacher wants to get back on track next season. "Maybe I came in in a tough situation, but it's always exciting to come back to Buffalo," he said. "I played here four years, and it's so close to home. This is a team that's going to be exciting in the near future. Obviously, right now we're rebuilding, but I don't think that rebuilding stage will last very long with this team."
Conacher switches lines and finds success | 03/22/2014 9:03 AM
NewsCory Conacher, who had been playing on the Sabres' top line alongisde Tyler Ennis and Drew Stafford, was shifted to Buffalo's second unit Thursday.
ImpactHe played with Cody Hodgson and Torrey Mitchell on the team's second unit and promptly scored his first two goals as a Sabre. Look for Buffalo coach Ted Nolan to keep his top two forward lines intact for Sunday's game against the Canucks. Keep an eye on Conacher. Despite his slow start with the Sabres we think he may have some fantasy value going forward.

ImpactConacher had four goals and 20 points in 60 games with the Ottawa Senators this season. That's a significant step back from his impressive rookie campaign, but the 24-year-old certainly has a lot of potential. Getting Conacher on waivers might prove to be a steal for Buffalo.

NewsThe Ottawa Senators have placed Cory Conacher on waivers.

ImpactRoughly 11 months ago, Ottawa acquired Conacher from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Ben Bishop. Although Conacher showed a lot of promise at the time as a rookie, it's fair to say that the Lightning have won the trade as Bishop has been one of the league's top goaltenders this season. All that being said, we expect someone to claim Conacher and perhaps the change of scenery and a fresh opportunity will help him shake off his rough sophomore campaign.

NewsCory Conacher picked up an assist in Ottawa's 2-1 shootout win over Nashville.
ImpactConacher has two goals and seven points in his last eight games. He's the type of guy that those who like to try and ride hot streaks might pick up, but we wouldn't count on him having too much fantasy value for the remainder of the 2013-14 campaign.

This year he has just four goals and 11 points, though two of those goals have come in the past three games. Patrick Wiercioch, Zack Smith and Bobby Ryan (game-winner) were the other goal scorers. Cody Ceci picked up two assists.

NewsCory Conacher earned an assist in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo.
ImpactHe has registered two goals and six points in 31 games this campaign. "It's frustrating but at the same time, you can't be frustrated," Conacher said prior to Tuesday's contest. "I've got to be ... playing good position in the D-zone. Making as much offensive presence as I can and being in front of the net and be a pest in front of the net and continue to draw penalties and help my team out that way. The bounces will come. You've got to patient." He hasn't found the back of the net since Oct. 15.

Conacher likley to start on Sens' 2nd line | 09/28/2013 11:04 AM
NewsIt looks as if Cory Conacher has won a job on Ottawa's second line.

ImpactFive of the Sens' top six forward spots are filled by Jason Spezza, Bobby Ryan, Milan Michalek and Kyle Turris. If Conacher does grab this gig, he will likely be able to at least duplicate his 29-point performance in 47 games of last season.
Cory Conacher alongside Turris in camp | 09/14/2013 7:36 AM
NewsCory Conacher has started off training camp alongside Kyle Turris and Clarke MacArthur.
ImpactWhile others will also get a chance to play alongside Turris and MacArthur, it will increase Conacher's fantasy value if he gets the role on the second line. Conacher got off to a hot start with Tampa Bay last season and was mentioned as a candidate for the Calder Trophy early on but was dealt to Ottawa as the Lightning needed a goaltender and Ben Bishop was available. Conacher had nine goals and 24 points for Tampa Bay in 35 games but had only five points in 12 games for Ottawa as he seemed to be the odd-man out at times. He rebounded a bit in the playoffs with three goals in eight games. He should get 40-45 points this season as he will likely bounce around between a top and bottom six forward.

Conacher picks good time for 1st playoff goal | 05/08/2013 9:20 AM
NewsCory Conacher produced his first NHL postseason marker in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over Montreal.
ImpactHe picked an excellent time to get his first point of the series. Conacher sent the game into overtime by scoring with just 22.6 seconds remaining in regulation to help the Senators erase a two-goal deficit in the third period. He was a healthy scratch in Game 2, after being used sparingly in Game 1, but in the past two contests his ice time has increased. He was also on during a crucial time in Game 4, so coach Paul MacLean appears to be getting more comfortable with the diminutive rookie.
Cory Conacher uncertain for Game 3 | 05/05/2013 8:43 AM
NewsCory Conacher's status for Sunday's game against the Montreal Canadiens is uncertain after the winger was a healthy scratch in Friday's contest.
ImpactConacher watched Game Two of the series from the press box as the coaching staff chose to insert the rugged Matt Kassian in his place, perhaps anticipating rough play after the injury suffered by Lars Eller in Game One. If the team is intent on generating more offense than they did in Friday's defeat Conacher will be on the ice.

NewsThe Ottawa Senators feel they filled a need at the NHL trade deadline when they acquired rookie forward Cory Conacher from Tampa Bay.
Impact"His skill set is real high," said GM Bryan Murray. "He's not a big player, but he's quick, courageous, he handles the puck, he makes plays and gets points and if we need anything, we need a point-getter." Oddly enough, the first-year player will join the Senators as their leading scorer with 24 points in 35 games. Injuries to Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson have sidetracked the team offensively, but they continue to win and currently sit sixth in the Eastern Conference standings.

Bruce Garrioch on Twitter
ImpactConacher has nine goals and 24 points in 35 games this season. Getting a solid, young, top-six forward like Conacher is a big win for Ottawa in this situation. Bishop has been great, but with Craig Anderson close to returning from an ankle injury and Robin Lehner excelling this season, Bishop was expendable.

NewsCory Conacher netted his first goal in 13 games but Tampa Bay fell Wednesday night 4-2 to the Leafs.
ImpactThe winger also had two penalty minutes in the game. Conacher's production has certainly slowed since his early-season tear, with only four points in March. Conacher was never drafted, but the Lightning gave him a chance in the AHL last season and he posted an incredible 80 points and 114 penalty minutes in 75 contests with the Norfolk Admirals. He also stayed strong in the minors during the lockout and it's looking like the Lightning found an ideal diamond in the rough.

Tampa Bay has 37 goals in seven games, easily the most in the NHL.
Cory Conacher picks up 2 points in win | 01/29/2013 11:43 PM
NewsLightning rookie Cory Conacher registered a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win over Florida Tuesday night.
ImpactPerhaps the early favorite for the Calder Trophy, Conacher has amassed a whopping nine points in six contests so far, though lining up alongside Martin St. Louis and Steve Stamkos doesn't hurt. Stamkos also found the back of the net in the victory, as did Vincent Lecavalier, Tom Pyatt and Dana Tyrell.

"It's really been a dream to play in the NHL so it's important for me to take advantage of this and hopefully show the coaching staff that they haven't made a mistake by putting me there and I have to do the things that make me belong on that line." Coach Guy Boucher likes Conacher's speed and his willingness to push the pace. Conacher was outstanding in the AHL last year and he was playing great in the minors during the lockout as well, so the Lightning appear to be willing to give him a shot in the NHL.
