Dmitry Orlov has eventful Sunday afternoon | 03/02/2014 3:29 PM
NewsWashington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov was certainly in the thick of things against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
ImpactHe enjoyed his first two-goal game (all three of his tallies have come against Philly) and showed a dangerous shot that might get more use after today. Unfortunately for Orlov and fortunately for his fantasy owners, he delivered a potentially suspension-worthy hit that drew five PIM and gave the Flyers a chance to get back in the game. Philadelphia ended up winning 5-4 in OT.

"I don't think about what happened in past," said Orlov. "Just about right now. That's all that's on my mind right now -- today." Caps' Dmitry Orlov getting more playing time | 12/14/2013 11:14 AM
NewsWashington defenseman Dmitry Orlov played in just his sixth game of the season on Friday, one more than he played in an injury-marred 2012-13 season.
ImpactHe skated 13:41 on Nov. 30 against the Islanders in his 2013-14 season debut, and has seen a steady uptick in his workload since. On Friday against the Panthers, Orlov played 20:04. He eclipsed the 20-minute plateau for the first time in 23 games, since logging a single-game career high 24:31 in a March 8, 2012 tilt against the Tampa Bay Lightning. More importantly, Orlov looked strong at both ends of the ice on Friday. In a single shift late in the third period of what was a 2-2 game, Orlov made two excellent plays in his own end to diffuse potential Grade A scoring chances for the Panthers. He was also much more assertive with the puck, and had a great look at the net late in overtime.
Dmitry Orlov will finally play Saturday | 11/30/2013 2:07 PM
NewsDmitry Orlov will make his season debut Saturday.
ImpactHe has been brought up from the minors six times this season because there's a provision in his contract that states he can leave for the KHL on Jan. 1 if he doesn't appear on an NHL roster for a total of 30 games. Orlov's agent has voiced his concern of late regarding the young defenseman's future with the Capitals and earlier this season he suggested that that the team should trade him elsewhere.
Dmitry Orlov back up with Caps and may play | 11/30/2013 10:45 AM
NewsDefenseman Dmitry Orlov, 22, has been recalled by the Washington Capitals for the sixth time but has yet to play in an NHL game this season, prompting his agent to say coach Adam Oates doesn't like the way he plays and that Orlov should be traded.
ImpactOrlov, though, may get to play for the Caps tonight in Long Island. The 22-year-old Russian defenseman has now been recalled by the Caps six times but has yet to play in an NHL game this season, prompting his agent to say Capitals coach Adam Oates doesn't like the way he plays and that Orlov should be traded. Left-handed defenseman Alex Urbom took just three shifts for 2:15 of ice time in Friday night's 3-2 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens and did not play after getting beaten behind the net on Danny Briere's first-period goal. Orlov ranks first among Hershey defensemen in points this season with three goals and six assists in 11 games. Orlov has 44 points [12 goals, 32 assists] and 48 penalty minutes in 76 career AHL games. In 65 games for the Capitals he has 20 points [three goals, 17 assists] and 18 penalty minutes. Orlov was drafted by the Caps in the second round [55th overall] in the 2009 NHL draft.

Dmitry Orlov sent to the minors | 09/30/2013 11:02 AM
NewsThe Washington Capitals have sent Dmitry Orlov to Hershey of the AHL.
ImpactOrlov did not have to pass through waivers and that did not help his cause. The defenseman was the Capitals second round pick in 2009. He played 60 games in the NHL in the 2011-12 season but spent time in the minors during the lockout and ended up suffering an upper body injury when the lockout ended, wrecking his season as he only played five games in the NHL. The Capitals are still high on Orlov so expect to see him up in the not-too-distant future.
Dmitry Orlov likely to start season in AHL | 09/28/2013 9:16 AM
NewsDefenseman Dmitry Orlov probably will end up starting the NHL's regular season next week at AHL Hershey because the Capitals have a glut of third-pair type defensemen.
ImpactJack Hillen, Steve Oleksy and Tyson Strachan all have to pass through waivers (Orlov would not) if the team keeps seven defensemen, so Orlov could be the odd-man out. Orlov was a second-round pick (No. 55) by Washington in the 2009 NHL Draft, and didn't take long to impress people in the organization as a summer-camp standout. He joined Hershey near the end of the 2010-11 season and immediately became a key figure for the Bears. The next season he had 19 points in 60 games for the Capitals and did not look out of place in a top-four role when all-star Mike Green was hurt. He began last season with Hershey because of the lockout, and an upper-body injury left him unable to begin the NHL season. He missed three months in total, only ended up playing five games in the NHL and didn't look like the same smooth, offensively gifted defenseman. But Caps GM George McPhee still has hopes for Orlov, saying: "He's a pretty dynamic player, and he could be a real difference maker."
Orlov will look to get back on Caps' radar | 09/02/2013 11:16 AM
NewsIf Dmitry Orlov can impress at training camp then he could skyrocket his way up Washington's depth chart.
ImpactHe will enter camp behind the likes of John Erskine, Jack Hillen, Steve Oleksy and Tomas Kundratek, but he has the potential to play as a top-four defender this year. Orlov missed time last season with what is believed to be a concussion and he appeared in just five NHL contests. In 2011-12, Orlov skated in 60 games with the Capitals. He registered 19 points, 99 hits and a plus-1 rating over that span. He could be a player to watch.
