Martin Jones faces only three shots in relief | 05/11/2014 12:34 AM
NewsMartin Jones blocked all three shots he faced in relief of Jonathan Quick in Game 4 on Saturday night.
ImpactThe Kings fell 2-0 to the Ducks, despite dictating the pace for two-thirds of the game. Jones played nearly two full periods (the team pulled the goalie to try to score late in the game), yet only faced three shots. Coach Darryl Sutter yanked Jonathan Quick for the start of the second, with the team down 2-0, to try to give his team a lift, and that it did, except for on the scoresheet. The Kings gave up no shots in the second, with the last even-strength one occurring at 19:56 of the first frame. The series is tied 2-2, and Quick should be back in net.

NewsLook for Martin Jones to play between the pipes on Wednesday.

Martin Jones felt AHL stint was successful | 02/25/2014 9:29 AM
NewsMartin Jones thought his stint in the minors during the Olympic break was beneficial.
ImpactThe NHL rules prevented most players that could be sent to the AHL during the break from being eligible, but Jones was one of the few noteworthy NHLers that could play. "As a goalie, it's important to play games and obviously practicing hard and working on that stuff in practice is important, but it's hard to rep playing a game," Jones said. "So it's good for me to go down and get some time in and I'm excited to be back and get back at it here." He has a 1.71 GAA and .940 save percentage in 13 games this season. Given that Jonathan Quick will have to readjust to the major timezone difference after returning from Sochi, we wouldn't be surprised if Jones starts on Wednesday.

Kings demote Martin Jones to the AHL | 01/05/2014 5:58 PM
NewsThe Los Angeles Kings sent Martin Jones to the AHL's Manchester Monarchs on Sunday.
Los Angeles Kings
ImpactIt certainly isn't for poor play in net, as he had a sensational start to his NHL career. Instead, he was the guy the Kings didn't need to risk losing by sending to the minors. The question is: how long will he stay down? Ben Scrivens is in a contract year and Jonathan Quick could always get re-injured, so we shall see.
Martin Jones remains with the Kings | 01/05/2014 8:20 AM
NewsMartin Jones is still with the Los Angeles Kings, even after the Kings activated Jonathan Quick off injured reserve.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactIt was thought that Jones would be sent to the minors once Quick was back but the Kings traded Daniel Carcillo to the Rangers, leaving an empty spot for Quick to use up. Jones will be sent down once it has been determined that Quick is 100 percent but he remains with the big club for now.
Martin Jones may start or head to AHL | 01/04/2014 2:34 PM
NewsMartin Jones could either be starting Saturday night or possibly on his way back to the minors.
ImpactIf he gets reassigned then it means Jonathan Quick will be between the pipes against Vancouver for the first time since he suffered a groin injury on Nov. 12. Martin Jones plays well in loss to Blackhawks | 12/30/2013 10:49 PM
NewsMartin Jones played well Monday, but was saddled with a loss in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Chicago.
ImpactJones allowed just one goal on 30 shots, but his teammates couldn't provide him with any offensive support, dropping his record to 8-2-0. His GAA of 1.29 and his save percentage of .955 remain very impressive.
Jones not worried about scouting against him | 12/24/2013 9:37 AM
NewsMartin Jones, who suffered his first career loss on Monday, didn't buy into the argument that it will get increasingly harder for him now that team's have plenty of video to use to go over his weaknesses.
Los Angeles Times
Impact"There's no secrets with how much video there is in the league," Jones said. "Every time I play is a little more experience, which can only help me out." Jones allowed four goals on 23 shots on Monday after winning his first eight NHL contests. More than scouting reports, the real threat to his fantasy value is the fact that Jonathan Quick (groin) has resumed skating. As good as Jones as been, the Kings are expected to go right back to leaning on Quick once he's healthy enough to make that possible.
Jones finally lose | 12/24/2013 4:24 AM
NewsThe Dallas Stars put an end to Martin Jones' remarkable run Monday night with a 5-2 win.
ImpactJones, who had not allowed more than two goals in his first eight NHL games, allowed four to the Stars on 23 shots. Jones (8-1-0) was trying to match Ray Emery for the most winning decisions to start an NHL career at nine. He also was trying to tie Jonathan Quick for the Kings record for longest winning streak by a goalie. Jones still has an outstanding 1.31 GAA and .953 save percentage.
Martin Jones now chasing Ray Emery | 12/22/2013 6:31 AM
NewsNow that Martin Jones has tied Bob Froese's single-season record for eight straight wins to start a career, he is chasing Ray Emery's record of nine.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactEmery won his first nine NHL games but did not do it in one season. Jones has been sensational thus far with an 8-0-0 record, a 0.98 GAA and a .966 save percentage. He has yet to give up more than two goals in one game. Jones is a must-start and the Kings could have a hard time getting Jonathan Quick back in the lineup when he returns from injury, if Jones remains this hot.

NewsLos Angeles Kings goalie Martin Jones improved his young NHL career start to 8-0-0 with a shootout win Saturday, tying Bob Froese's single-season mark from 1982-83.
ImpactJones and the Kings beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 (SO). He's only allowed eight goals in eight games, and thanks to some time past regulation, he's below 1.00 GAA wuth a .98 mark. If you can add him short-term, do it.

ImpactThe NHL record is eight consecutive wins to start an NHL career, set by Bob Froese in 1982-83. Jones earned his third shutout on Tuesday, which puts in him an eight-way tie for first place in the NHL in that category. Of course, he's the only member of that tie that's only played in six games. He has a 0.82 GAA and .972 save percentage.

ImpactJones was expected to recognized by the league after he compiled a 3-0-0 record, including one shutout, while registering a 1.00 goals-against average and a .972 save percentage. The 23-year-old netminder has filled in remarkably with the Kings for injured number one option Jonathan Quick. He's worthy of a spot on your fantasy roster until Quick comes back, which could be soon.

NewsMartin Jones performance this week should be worthy of one of the NHL's stars of the week.
ImpactJones won all three starts and gave up only three goals on 109 shots for a .972 save percentage. Kings' Martin Jones stops 37, wins again | 12/14/2013 5:37 PM
NewsMartin Jones turned aside 37 of 39 shots in a 5-2 win against Ottawa on Saturday.

ImpactThe Kings record is 202:11 and held by Jonathan Quick. Jones has gotten off to an incredible start with a 4-0-0 record, 0.74 GAA, and .974 save percentage. Quick (groin) is still likely at least a couple weeks away from returning, so Jones is likely to have more opportunities to show what he can do. If he stays hot, he'll make the decision to return him to the AHL very difficult.

NewsMartin Jones picked up his fourth straight win for the Kings Wednesday night, as Los Angeles defeated the Maple Leafs by a score of 3-1.

Martin Jones will probably start Wednesday | 12/11/2013 12:50 PM
NewsMartin Jones is projected to get the nod against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.

ImpactIt would have been fun to see Ben Scrivens play against Jonathan Bernier, given that those goaltenders were involved in the same trade over the summer. At the same time, you can't fault the Kings for going with Jones. The rookie goaltender has earned back-to-back shutouts, giving him a 0.65 GAA and .973 save percentage in three career games.
Martin Jones notches another shutout | 12/10/2013 11:50 PM
NewsLittle-known Los Angeles Kings goalie Martin Jones now has two straight shutouts as his team trashed the Montreal Canadiens 6-0 on Tuesday.
ImpactHe's won all three of his starts. It's clear that Jones has a chance to push Ben Scrivens for starts (which isn't to say that Scrivens is playing poorly). This stunning play makes it much easier to stomach Jonathan Quick's injury situation.
Martin Jones earns shutout in 2nd NHL start | 12/08/2013 1:30 AM
NewsMartin Jones earned his first NHL shutout in the Kings' 3-0 blanking of the Islanders on Saturday night.
ImpactThe 23-year-old rookie was making just his second career NHL start. He made 16 saves Saturday night, and he's now allowed two goals in his first two NHL games. Jones should get a handful more starts until Jonathan Quick returns, which he's pegged to do around Christmas.
Martin Jones may start Saturday vs. Islanders | 12/07/2013 5:53 PM
NewsThere's a possibility that Martin Jones could play against the New York Islanders on Saturday night.
ImpactHe left the ice first at the team's morning skate, but Ben Scrivens followed close behind. Coach Darryl Sutter also didn't provide a glowing analysis of Scrivens' play when he said: "I think he's been off and on lately. To be able to win on a consistent basis and play at a high level is not just the physical, it's the mental part of it, and when you're not used to doing it, it trickles into your game."
Jones wins his first NHL game | 12/04/2013 4:10 AM
NewsMartin Jones made 26 saves and stopped all nine attempts in the shootout to help the Kings beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 Tuesday night.
ImpactJones, who hadn't played a game at any level since Nov.9, when he got the start for the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, stopped Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Nick Bonino, Saku Koivu, Teemu Selanne, Dustin Penner, Kyle Palmieri, Matt Beleskey and Perreault in the tiebreaker. Jones didn't have much work early as Los Angeles muddied Anaheim's skating game. The Kings had a 16-6 advantage in shots on goal after the first period, 24-6 near the midway point of the second and 51-28 overall.
Martin Jones returns home on Monday | 11/25/2013 10:59 AM
NewsMartin Jones and the Los Angeles Kings will be in Vancouver Monday.
ImpactThe Kings backup goalie is a Vancouver native unfortunately he will not be between the pipes as Ben Scrivens has the job and is not relinquishing it. Jones is up because of the injury to Jonathan Quick who is likely not back until Christmas at the earliest. Jones will see limited action at best as long as Scrivens remains healthy so his fantasy value at this time is negligible.
Kings promote Martin Jones | 11/13/2013 2:41 PM
NewsThe Los Angeles Kings have called up Martin Jones.
ImpactJonathan Quick has left the team to deal with a groin or hamstring injury. Jones has a 2.24 GAA and .927 save percentage in 13 AHL games this season.

Kings promote goaltender Martin Jones | 05/08/2013 10:00 AM
NewsMartin Jones has been summoned by the Los Angeles Kings.
ImpactJones isn't expected to get any playing time in the postseason, but this will be a learning experience for him. Jonathan Bernier is scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer and the Kings might trade him rather than re-sign him because Jonathan Quick is already inked to a 10-year deal. If that happens, Jones might end up as the team's backup in 2013-14. He had a 2.53 GAA and .919 save percentage in 56 AHL games this season.
