ImpactHartley feels that Brodie can develop into one of the league's best defensemen. "I've coached many players that, with maturity, they grow into a role and suddenly their career takes off," Hartley said. "With TJ, with our situation over here with a bunch of young players, I think that the quicker that he'll realize this, the quicker he's going to be a star player in this league. This guy can be a player who can make a difference." Brodie is known more for his defensive abilities and is consequently likely to have far more value to his team than fantasy owners. That being said, he is worth keeping an eye on as the potential is there for him to eventually start putting up solid numbers offensively.

ImpactHartley thought it was his best game yet this season. "Not only for this season," Hartley said Sunday, "like the last 48 games (of the lockout-shortened 2012-2013 campaign) also. Defensively he made some unbelievable decisions. He had jump in his play. He was creative with the puck. He put pucks at the net. T.J., what he has to learn is that he's gonna get better. He doesn't know how good he is." Brodie is worth looking at in deep leagues as he has a goal and three points but could be ready to break out.

"It's sort of weird watching him growing up and being so close to Detroit and stuff," Brodie said. "To talk to him on the phone is sort of a weird feeling, I guess. Watching your idol and getting to talk to him it's a cool experience." Like his skating is just sick." Brodie has only one goal and 11 points in 40 games this season but he has a spot on the top power play and has three assists in his last two games. NewsT.J. Brodie is enjoying the increased ice time with the Calgary Flames.
ImpactBrodie is averaging a career-high 19:24 minutes per contest, but he's also logged at least 22 minutes in each of his last five games. "It's nice," Brodie said. "The more you play, if you make a bad pass or something, it's a lot easier to forget about it if you go out the next shift. You don't have to sit on the bench and think about it, and then the next time you're out there, you're a little bit nervous, because you don't want to do it again. I think playing a little bit more, it's definitely a little easier." His role increased after the Flames traded Jay Bouwmeester. The Flames don't have much left to play for this season, but Brodie is a key part of their future so they might as well give him as much playing time as possible.
