The Anaheim Ducks were a dejected bunch after their Game 7 loss to the Detroit Red Wings Sunday.
The Ducks were up three games to two heading into Detroit for Game 6 Friday but managed to drop both contests. "It sucks," defenseman Ben Lovejoy said. "I feel like, as a team, we let ourselves down. They were the better team tonight. They outplayed us from the start and we had to battle to hang in there with them. We didn't give ourselves a real chance to win. We tried at the end. We tried to make a push. We weren't good enough all night." The Ducks had an excellent regular season as they were the third best team in the NHL but success is usually had with a good playoff run so the Ducks will need to regroup in time for next season.

Ben Lovejoy has been loving playing for the Anaheim Ducks since being acquired from the Penguins on Feb. 6.
Lovejoy was a depth defenseman with Pittsburgh, often spending a lot of time in the press box as a healthy scratch. But it has been a different story in Anaheim as he has become a regular on the blueline. "I think that the biggest thing for me is confidence," Lovejoy said. "I found when I arrived here that the coaching staff, particularly Bob Woods, said play your game. You're going to make mistakes and you're going to go out the next shift even if you do make mistakes. And that was something I wasn't accustomed to in my previous career. At any time when I would screw up or make a mistake, I would be punished with ice time." He has nine assists with the Ducks in 26 games after being pointless in Pittsburgh in three contests.

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau has been impressed with Ben Lovejoy since he was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"He's been good," Boudreau said. "He can skate. He's a right-handed shot that gives you something that we hadn't had before. When you're passing it up the boards to somebody on the right side, you're able to move it as a right-hander than a lefty." Lovejoy has given the Ducks enough depth to rotate some defenseman in and out of the lineup. At the same time, Lovejoy has been playing recently with Anaheim and has four points in eight games.

It was Lovejoy's third game since he was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins. He's getting significantly more playing time in Anaheim, which will boost his fantasy value. Still, he doesn't have much value in standard leagues.

"I will certainly miss all the people but I'm excited to begin a new chapter in my hockey career and have a fresh couple of sets of eyes watching me," he said. "I feel like there's more to my game and I'm excited to be here and prove it." Lovejoy will probably make his Ducks debut on Friday.

Pittsburgh traded Lovejoy to Anaheim in exchange for a 2014 fifth-round pick. "We've liked Ben for a number of years and are happy to have him," Murray said. "With the schedule in the West this season, we think we may need 10 or 11 defensemen when it's all said and done." There's no word on if Lovejoy will make his Ducks debut on Friday.

Lovejoy had become a spare defenseman for the Penguins. He played in only three games, tallying a minus-two, this season. The 28-year-old should get more of a look with the Ducks this season, but that doesn't mean fantasy owners should do the same. He's nothing but a bottom-pair defenseman with limited upside on offense.

He got the start in place of rookie defenseman Simon Despres and played 13:44. Lovejoy felt he had a really good training camp and was happy to get into the lineup. "In each of the games, [Despres] done some really good things, and he's also had some blips and inconsistencies in his play," coach Dan Bylsma said. "He's had good periods and followed it up with puck decisions and execution that weren't as good."
