NewsAaron Palushaj has signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.
ImpactPalushaj became a 23-year-old unrestricted free agent after the Avalanche decided not to present him with a qualifying offer. "Aaron is still a young player and has some NHL experience under his belt," said Hurricanes VP of hockey operations Ron Francis. "He has good speed and good hands and we believe he can push for a job in Raleigh come September." He had two goals and seven assists in 25 games with the Avalanche in 2013.

Aaron Palushaj gets prime spot as top-six | 03/18/2013 6:35 AM
NewsAaron Palushaj was a top-six forward in practice on Sunday as he lined up alongside Ryan O'Reilly and Gabriel Landeskog.
ImpactThe Avs are reeling a bit as they are losers of three in a row and coach Joe Sacco tried to stir things up in practice, playing Palushaj with his two highly regarded teammates. Sacco also moved a couple of lines around, putting John Mitchell with Paul Stastny and Milan Hejduk and David Jones with Chuck Kobasew and Cody McLeod, leaving the Matt Duchene, P.A. Parenteau and Jamie McGinn line intact.
Aaron Palushaj demoted to fourth line | 02/23/2013 11:08 AM
NewsAaron Palushaj has been bumped down to the fourth line.
ImpactSomeone had to make room for the return of Gabriel Landeskog (head). Palushaj has four points in five games, but given this latest development, we can't recommend holding onto him in standard leagues.
Aaron Palushaj has 4 points in 5 Avs games | 02/22/2013 10:24 AM
NewsAaron Palushaj is off to a great start with the Colorado Avalanche.
ImpactPalushaj has two goals and four points in five games after being claimed off of waivers. "This is a great opportunity for me," Palushaj said. "I'm on a new team and getting to play with two great linemates like Paul Stastny and David Jones. It's great to be in Colorado. I love it here and we've just got to keep getting wins here." It's worth noting that Palushaj has only averaged 13:01 minutes per game and it's not clear where he'll fall into the lineup when Gabriel Landeskog (head) returns. Still, this is a situation worth monitoring.
Aaron Palushaj grateful for new opportunity | 02/16/2013 10:30 AM
NewsAaron Palushaj is grateful to the Colorado Avalanche for giving him a chance to play on the second line.
ImpactIt's been quite the turnaround for Palushaj after being placed on waivers by the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 5. "It's unbelievable," he said. "I felt this year I was really ready to prove myself in the NHL. With the lockout, it was tough, and then I got injured." Palushaj netted his first goal with the Avalanche on Thursday, but he only logged 13:15 minutes despite getting some top-six ice time. We'd like to see him get more playing time before we recommend picking him up.

NewsAaron Palushaj played on a line with Paul Stastny and David Jones.
ImpactPalushaj played 13:03 minutes and was a minus-one with a couple of shots on goal. We cannot recommend him at this time but with the Avs under the gun with plenty of injuries up front, he should stay in the lineup.

ImpactPalushaj is only 23 years old and he's had some strong AHL seasons, so the fact that he was claimed isn't shocking. The Avalanche have a number of key forwards injured, so it will be interesting to see if they'll give Palushaj a chance on one of their top two lines.
