ImpactLatvia takes on the heavily favoured Canadians Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Daugavins had some nice words for the team's head coach Ted Nolan. "We never had a coach that actually believes in the players," Daugavins said. "He actually makes us believe that we're actually a good team." Latvia won their first Olympic game in 12 years, beating Switzerland in Tuesday's qualification game.

ImpactAccording to player agent Jay Grossman, the deal has an NHL "out clause," if an opportunity to return to North America arises he can pursue it. Daugavins dressed in 25 games between the Ottawa Senators and the Boston Bruins last season.

ImpactDaugavins was in and out of the lineup after the Bruins claimed him off waivers from the Senators. Sadly, the fourth-line winger is known more for a failed shootout move than anything he did in an actual game. Hutchinson was the 77th overall pick in 2008 but never made it to the NHL level.

Impact"There was an opportunity to win a game and get a 1-0 lead in the series, and two, three minutes later we go down 1-0," he said. "I should take a little blame for it. I should have put it in there and give the team the lead. It wasn't bouncing. I had everything like I wanted to do, except I miss-shot it. I was falling while I was shooting and I just missed the puck." Daugavins wasn't the only player to have a great chance to score in overtime, but he may have taken the loss harder than most because of his lost opportunity. He and the Bruins will try to bounce back in Game 2.

ImpactDaugavins had some jump to his game considering he hadn't played much since the opening round of the playoffs. In fact, he had one of Boston's better scoring chances when he hit the post in the second period. "I felt good; I had a lot of energy at the start," said Daugavins. "I didn't play that much but every time I got out there I enjoyed every second of it. I tried to keep it simple because I hadn't played in a while and it worked. Get pucks deep and try to start a cycle and back check, it worked well." Good to see the former Senator get a chance in the post-season.

ImpactHe produced one goal and two assists in 19 games for the Senators, but made waves for his unique shootout attempt against the Bruins on March 11. Boston must've been impressed with the move because they picked him up off waivers. Daugavins' only goal this season also came versus the Bruins on March 21 and he picked up an assist against them as well. He was practicing with Ottawa Wednesday, so he won't join the team in time for Wednesday's match-up with Montreal.

ImpactThe goal was the lone marker for the Sens on the night and was assisted by Mika Zibanejad and Sergei Gonchar. The goal is the sixth for Daugavins in his short career.

ImpactHe placed the tip of his stick blade on top of the puck and skated toward Boston goaltender Tuukka Rask Monday night. When he reached the crease he did a full spin-o-rama, but failed to slide the puck between the post and Rask's pad. Boston scored on their next shot to win the shootout. Most people though the move was great, but there were others who weren't impressed. "Nobody has done it before, so somebody will talk about it. Obviously, there's going to be somebody that doesn't like it," said Daugavins. "The way I came up with it was watching guys in Europe and guys spinning around. There was some talk about it being illegal, but spin-o-rama's are allowed and the puck is under my stick as I spin with it."
