Bruins' loss not Chad Johnson's fault | 11/03/2013 8:56 AM
NewsAlthough the Bruins lost to the Islanders Saturday night, Boston coach Claude Julien was pleased with backup goalie Chad Johnson's effort.
ImpactHe turned away 31 shots and stopped several two-on-one breakaways. It was a solid performance for the 27-year-old, all the more impressive as it was only his second appearance in a game this season. It looks as if Johnson will be a capable backup to Tuukka Rask which will allow the Bruins to leave Niklas Svedberg in the AHL to further his development.

NewsChad Johnson will make his season debut on Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres.
Bruins.nhl.com on Twitter
ImpactThe Sabres have been the worst offensive team in the NHL so far with just 13 goals in 10 games, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Johnson have a solid game. Beyond that though, Johnson won't get much playing time behind Tuukka Rask to make him worth owning.

NewsChad Johnson admits that his Boston debut in Monday's preseason opener against Montreal wasn't a very good first impression.
Impact"It was a tough one," said Johnson, who allowed three goals on eight shots. "The first (game) you kind of want to get in the flow of things. I just didn't get off to a good start. Tough way to start, for sure." He will get another opportunity to play during the Bruins' exhibition schedule to try to earn the team's backup goalie job. Johnson is competing with Niklas Svedberg to be Tuukka Rask's understudy.
Chad Johnson hopes to contribute in Boston | 09/05/2013 7:07 AM
NewsChad Johnson is probably the favorite to serve as Tuukka Rask's backup this season.
ImpactHe will compete with Niklas Svedberg for the team's No. 2 role. Johnson is armed with a one-way deal and $600,000 in salary, so Svedberg will likely get another year's worth of experience in the minors. He has appeared in 10 NHL games during his career and could see much more action in 2013-14. "If I can get as many games as possible, it's always a plus for me. Looking at all the different situations, this was definitely a good one for me," Johnson said. "Last year was a long season for the guys and Tuukka, and being an Olympic year, too, I definitely expect to get into quite a few games. It just kind of depends on how the season goes and what they want to do. For me, it's a just a matter of being ready and, when the opportunity arises, that I'm playing well."

He had a 3.00 GAA and .903 SV% in 34 games at the AHL level, though. As Sports Illustrated's Al Muir notes, this can't be good news for the Bruins' faith in Niklas Svedberg right now. NewsChad Johnson has been returned to the minors.

Chad Johnson solid in second straight start | 01/31/2013 1:25 AM
NewsChad Johnson was protected by the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday and rewarded them with a charity point as they fell 2-1 to the Edmonton Oilers in overtime.
ImpactOnce again, he faced very few shots - the same as Monday's 21. This time he allowed two goals, with Nail Yakupov beating him for the OT-winner. Considering how unproven he was coming into this week, that's not bad. Mike Smith is expected to be back in action this weekend, but maybe Johnson earned future starts.
