Mathieu Perreault generated a goal and an assist in Washington's 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers Wednesday night.
His first career playoff marker came just past the midway mark of the second period to get Washington on the scoreboard. Perreault has been productive in the playoffs with four points in four games. He had five shots in Game 4 after registering two in his previous three contests, so hopefully he's learned that he needs to shoot the puck more.

He recorded what held up as the game-winning goal late in the second period and collected an assist to help Washington win the Southeast Division with a victory over Winnipeg. However, his third-period penalty gave the Jets an opportunity to tie the contest late in the contest. The Capitals killed the penalty and Alex Ovechkin sealed the win with his 31st goal of the year into an empty net. Perreault's linemate, Jason Chimera, and Nicklas Backstrom also had a goal and a helper in the match, while Matt Hendricks also scored for the Capitals in an emotional win.

Mathieu Perreault's visor broke in the third period of Tuesday's loss to the Islanders and according to coach Adam Oates, it ended up cutting the Capitals forward "pretty good."
He received stitches after the game, but Oates didn't appear to be concerned that it would cost Perreault to miss any time.

"The line of Fehr and Matty P.," said goalie Braden Holtby, "they hadn't played a lot lately and they were absolutely outstanding. The energy they created, we were in their end the whole time they were on the ice. When you see that, you see guys play with that passion, it's contagious through the rest of your team." Mathieu Perreault will return to the Capitals' lineup Saturday against the Panthers.
Perreault has played in just five games this season and recently voiced his displeasure over ice time to French-language outlets in Canada. Perreault eventually clarified his remarks on Jan. 24, but it's worth noting he hasn't played in a game since Jan. 29. Fantasy owners can look elsewhere.

However, he clarified on Thursday that he has not asked to be traded out of Washington. "I didn't ask for a trade. Obviously I like it here, been around for four years, all my chums are [here]. I don't wanna go anywhere," he said. "All I want is a little bit more ice time and I talked to Adam Oates and George [McPhee] today about it. All I want is to play. I wanna be here. I don't wanna go anywhere. If you guys read the article in French it doesn't say that I asked for a trade. Never." Perreault had 4:58 of ice time against Winnipeg and logged 3:52 versus Tampa Bay. He's slated to play on the fourth line on Thursday, so his play time isn't likely to increase.
