ImpactHe scored the shootout winner in the Habs' 3-2 victory over Columbus Friday night. Desharnais has been downright awful this season and has been criticized by almost everyone in Montreal including the mayor. He was also a healthy scratch Tuesday night. Desharnais started Friday's game centering the fourth unit but was moved up to the third line during the contest. Maybe, just maybe this positive game will jump start his season. Watch how he performs Saturday against the Rangers.

ImpactThe much-maligned center has struggled this season, but new mayor Denis Coderre fanned the flames by tweeting critical remarks about the player last week, writing "Hello? Can we please get a one-way ticket to (minor-league) Hamilton for David Desharnais please." A number of members of the Montreal organization were displeased and have uniformly stood by their teammate. Perhaps this will light a fire beneath the scuffling forward and send him on a hot streak. Stranger things have happened.

Habs' coach Michel Therrien shuffled his lines in the third period in an attempt to wake up his team and Desharnais was not included in the new alignment that featured Alex Galchenyuk moving to center. Therrien didn't mince words when assessing Desharnais' game. "What Desharnais gives us since the beginning of season is not enough. He puts us in a position where we have to make a decision", said Therrein. We have commented on Desharnais' fall from grace before. Perhaps it is truly time to drop him.

ImpactDesharnais broke out last season with 16 goals and 60 points in 81 games with the Montreal Canadiens but needs to step up this season. "I've got to be better, I want to be better," he said. "There's nobody else that's going to feel sorry for me so I've just got to be better and I was tonight. I just want to keep going." The diminutive forward had a lot of success playing between wingers Max Pacioretty and Erik Cole last season and is still getting a lot of time on the power play this year. Desharnais is worth a look in 14-team leagues, especially if your league rewards power play point.
