NewsThe Rangers are expected to use Derick Brassard on the point of their struggling power play in Game 3 Tuesday night.
ImpactHe practiced there in the team's morning skate after playing there briefly in Game 2 and it's something he has done before. "I played the point my first year. It's different than playing in front," Brassard said. "You have to move on the blueline and make sure you shoot the puck. That's what I'm planning on doing. Our power play needs to be good and we need to score some goals." The Rangers don't have a man-advantage marker on eight opportunities against Boston in the series.

ImpactBrassard is on a five-game point streak and now has two goals and nine points in these playoffs. Ever since joining the Rangers at the trade deadline, the former sixth overall pick has been on fire. In fact, Brassard has more points over his last 20 combined games with New York (19 points) than he had in 34 games with Columbus earlier this season (18). It's safe to say that not even Rangers GM Glen Sather saw this sort of production coming when he acquired Brassard from the Blue Jackets as part of the Marian Gaborik trade.

The former Columbus Blue Jacket has been thoroughly enjoying his first trip to the NHL playoffs. "It's been a lot of fun," Brassard said. "I've been in the league for five years and this is the first time in my career that it's happening. I'm having a lot of fun with the guys here. We have a good team and I like the atmosphere, the leadership that we have. I'm just trying to help out. Right now it's working. At the end of the day, we haven't won the series yet, and I'm going to try to help the team win [tonight]."

NewsDerick Brassard ended the Rangers' power-play drought and added two assists in New York's 4-3 Game 3 win over Washington.
ImpactBrassard was the Rangers' best offensive player all night, which is as much an indictment of some of their high-priced offensive talent as it is a complement to Brassard. The former Blue Jacket has been very good for the most part since joining the Rangers at the traded deadline, but Brassard was bumped to the fourth line after two sub-par games to start the series. While he remained on that line most of the game, his assist on Arron Asham's goal should get him ensure he's out of John Tortorella's doghouse for now.

"We found that out really quickly when we started playing this year that we lost the middle of our lineup," Tortorella said. "I don't think any of us really felt how naked we'd really be. I felt it the first game. It has added a little more grind to our game, and I think we're going to need that as we go through the stretch here and if we go into the playoffs." Look for Brassard to stay hot as the Rangers continue their heated battle for a postseason spot.

ImpactBrassard, who missed a week with the ailment, finished Tuesday's game with three hits and a plus-1 rating. He also played just under 15 minutes. Brassard has three goals and 11 points this season but his limited role on a below-average team makes him difficult to recommend.

The Blackhawks (14-0-3) have set a league record with a 17-game point streak to open the season. "We know how good a team they are and how hard it is to play there," center Derick Brassard said. "We'll try to make the game into the kind of game they don't want to play. We have to make them play 200 feet from our net as much as possible." The Blue Jackets played pretty well in the first meeting, a 3-1 Chicago win on Jan. 26. "It could have gone either way in that game," Brassard said, "and I think they know that, too." Columbus has lost eight straight (0-7-1) against Chicago, dating to April 1, 2011.
