Jack Johnson feels good about playoff chances | 12/03/2013 10:19 AM
NewsJack Johnson is staying upbeat despite the Blue Jackets' struggles this season.
ImpactColumbus hasn't been able to get a real streak going - good or bad - in over a month. However, they have a 10-14-3 record, which puts them five points back in the playoff race. "We're still right there," Johnson argued. "I've learned that usually after the All-Star break - this year it's the Olympic break - the season gets ratcheted up a little bit, so you have to make sure you're in a good spot for that final sprint." They certainly still have a very real shot, but they can't afford to slip too much further if they're hoping to stage a comeback following the Olympic break. They will play against Tampa Bay on Tuesday

Anisimov, who had two hits and two shots on goal, has a career plus-10 rating, as he's pretty good defensively and away from the puck. It was a very uninspired performance all around for the Blue Jackets.

NewsJack Johnson is excited with the Columbus Blue Jackets chances heading into the 2013-14 season.
ImpactThe Blue Jackets will play in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference this season. Columbus will not have many changes to its lineup from the end of last season as they inked Nathan Horton to a long-term deal while choosing not to re-sign Vaclav Prospal. "There were a lot of questions when last season started, just because we had so many new faces, so many guys who weren't sure immediately what their roles were going to be here," Johnson said. "But that's totally different this time around. As a group of guys, we know each other pretty well. We know what we have to do to be successful. It's one thing to believe you can be a pretty good team, but it's another thing entirely to prove it. And we proved it with the way we ended the season. It all came together for us." Johnson is looking for a big season in 2013-14 as he had 19 points during the truncated 2013 season. He led the Blue Jackets on the power play and should be capable of 35-40 points.

But at some point, I feel like you do have to put a stake in the ground." Columbus hasn't had a captain since Rick Nash left. Johnson or Brandon Dubinsky are believed to be the top candidates to wear the "C" when the time comes.

Jack Johnson a minus-three on Sunday | 02/11/2013 9:08 AM
NewsJack Johnson was a minus-three Sunday and is now minus-seven on the season.
ImpactJohnson was on the ice for all three Oiler goals as it was not a great game for the blueliner. He has a goal and four points in 12 games this season.

For the time being, consider Johnson as solid an option as ever despite his relatively slow start.

NewsJack Johnson registered an assist in the Blue Jackets' 2-1 win over the Stars Monday night.
ImpactIt was Johnson's first point of the year. Johnson is a solid all-around defenseman. He's capable of contributing offensively, with the man advantage, eat up minutes, throw his body around, and he's not afraid to block shots. He should be owned in all formats but do not expect a positive plus-minus rating.
