Mike Santorelli leads Canucks with two goals | 10/06/2013 11:34 PM
NewsCenter Mike Santorelli scored twice, including the overtime winner, to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 5-4 triumph over the Flames in Calgary on Sunday night.
ImpactThe game was Calgary's first at home since floodwaters ravaged Southern Alberta in June and breached the doors of the Saddledome as part of one of the worst natural disasters in Canadian history. Everything at the event level was a loss as 30 million gallons of water rose to submerge everything under the first eight rows of the rink. After Calgary's David Jones tied the game 4-4 with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation, Santorelli took a feed from Kevin Bieksa and beat Flames goalie Joey MacDonald at 3:27 of overtime to give Vancouver the win in goaltender Eddie Lack's NHL debut. The Canucks battled back, scoring three unanswered goals to take a third period lead before Jones forced overtime. For Santorelli, the goals were his first two of the season. Others scoring for the winners were Jannik Hansen (second), Dale Weise (first) and David Booth (first).

ImpactSantorelli had a great training camp but he may end up elsewhere on the bottom-six as coach John Tortorella may switch things up and put a winger at center. Santorelli had only two goals and four points in 34 games with Florida and Vancouver last season so his fantasy value is negligible.

ImpactSantorelli had two goals and four points in 34 games with the Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks in 2013. He broke out in 2010-11 with 41 points in 82 contests, but hasn't been able to come even close to replicating that success.

NewsMike Santorelli scored again in Tuesday's shootout.
Winnipeg Free Press
ImpactHe is 10 for 19 in his career during the NHL's breakaway competition, which gives him some value to the Winnipeg Jets down the stretch. "I'm glad it went in," Santorelli said. "I'll help any way I can. I just kind of read off the goalie. I've got a couple of moves. I just go in thinking of one and take whatever. Today my was first one but I was a little bit nervous. I'm glad we got the extra point." The Jets are tied with the New York Rangers for the final playoff spot so any extra points they can muster in shootouts could be the difference down the stretch. Santorelli has one regulation time point, an assist, in five games with Winnipeg since being claimed off waivers from Florida.

Impact"Maybe it brought me a little luck," said Santorelli, who netted his first NHL goal of the season Tuesday. "It's a change, but sometimes change is good right? It's nice to get this first goal, it took a little bit, but it's something I haven't been thinking about. I'm just trying to let the game come to me." Even with Weiss expected to miss the rest of the year following wrist surgery, Santorelli will probably remain in Florida's bottom-six group.

| 02/02/2013 10:40 AM
NewsDespite being demoted to the AHL, Mike Santorelli is still regarded favorably by Panthers' coach Kevin Dineen.
ImpactSantorelli had been a healthy scratch for half of Florida's games this season and with the return of Marcel Goc Thursday was the odd man out and sent to San Antonio. "I believe Santo is a top six player and his skill set is as a higher-end skilled forward,'' Dineen said. "Right now we don't have that fit for him. So he needs to either diversify his game or get a major dose of confidence. I hope some time in the American League will give him that jolt of ice time he needs to turn things around.'' The Cats' can remain hopeful, you don't have to. Cut him if he is still on your fantasy squad.

You always have to earn a spot no matter who you are,'' said Santorelli, who "The day you're satisifed is the day it's over. I got to get back to playing my style of game. I got to get to the dirty areas in front of the net, get some rebounds and use my speed.'' That said, Santorelli has no fantasy value.
