NewsEvgeni Malkin netted his first goal of the 2013 season in Wednesday's loss to Toronto.
ImpactHis power-play marker late in the first period gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead, but they ended up losing their home opener by a score of 5-2. Malkin also received an end-of-match game misconduct to add 10 penalty minutes to his stats, which coach Dan Bylsma couldn't explain but fantasy owners probably welcomed with open arms. The Penguins center has collected five points after the team's first three games.

NewsEvgeni Malkin has no plans to play in the KHL once the final two years on his NHL deal with Pittsburgh have expired.
ImpactWhen asked about his future plans, Malkin left no doubt by saying "(I) can`t say what will happen. I want to play in (the) NHL. Two years left on (my) contract, but I want to play in (the) NHL." When the conversation turned to whether he intended remain with the Penguins, the reigning Art Ross and Hart Trophy winner stated clearly "" play for Pittsburgh for two more years. NewsPittsburgh GM Ray Shero is expected to try to get Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang locked up to new contracts now that the CBA has reached a tentative agreement.
ImpactHe declined to go into detail discussing the matter on Sunday because he not seen enough to assess how it would affect his future plans, but he remains optimistic that he can re-sign cornerstone pieces like Malkin and Kris Letang. Both of them will see their contracts expire following the 2013-14 campaign. Under the new CBA the Penguins can offer them an extra year more than any deal they can get via free agency.

ImpactOnly one player - a teammate named Sergei Mozyakin, who likely benefited from his presence - scored more than Malkin's 65 points. Geno did so in just 37 games.
