NewsSteve Begin announced via his Twitter account on Thursday that he has retired from playing hockey.

ImpactHe did so based on the advice of his doctor. Begin played in 36 games with the Calgary Flames last season and he signed a one-year contract the team's AHL affiliate in Abbotsford this past summer. Begin wasn't able to play in any games for the Heat, though. He recorded 108 points and 561 penalty minutes in 524 career contests.
