David Jones candidate to be bought out | 04/28/2013 10:22 AM

ImpactJones signed a four-year, $16 million deal prior to the season and delivered all of three goals in 33 games while spending numerous games in the press box as a healthy scratch. While he was coming off two consecutive 20-goal campaigns entering the year he was a huge disappointment this season and becomes a buyout candidate over the summer.

NewsDavid Jones hopes to redeem his poor 2013 season with a good final 10 games.
ImpactHones has only three goals and seven points in 28 games after returning to action on Monday from a knee injury. "When Jonesie's playing well, he's a physical player," coach Joe Sacco said. "He needs to play like that all the time, and I think he got away from that. He's a guy who needs to unnerve the opposition. He needs to get in on the forecheck and use his size and speed - and then he gets chances with his good shot after that. He's always been a streaky player, but this year he never really caught fire. But he's got a chance to finish well, at least." He replaced Aaron Palushaj in the Avs lineup as Palushaj was a healthy scratch.

But the bottom line is, I've got to put some guys in there that I think can maybe provide us with a little more at this time." He hasn't registered a point in nine straight games and has only seven points in 26 contests this year to go with a minus-10 rating.
Avalanche pair up David Jones, Ryan O'Reilly | 03/14/2013 8:57 AM
NewsDavid Jones has been moved to Ryan O'Reilly's line.
ImpactJones was briefly playing with Paul Stastny and Gabriel Landeskog. "It's been a while now, where Jonesey has had some struggles. He needs to get his game going," Avalanche coach Joe Sacco said. "He's a big-bodied winger. He's got to play physical. He's got to win one-on-one puck battles. He's got to get going, and I have to find a way to get him going. He needs to be a bigger part of our team, and he can be." Jones has seven points and a minus-10 rating in 23 games this season.

ImpactHe notched the only tally in the Colorado Avalanche's 1-0 OT win against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday. Considering his price tag, it's tough to stomach the fact that he has just five points in 2013. On the bright side, he has three of those points in his last two games, so maybe he's heating up.
David Jones is off to a cold start | 02/18/2013 10:53 AM
NewsDavid Jones has just one goal and two points in 11 games after inking a four-year/$16 million extension over the summer.
Impact"As far as the contract, it's definitely in the back of my mind," Jones said. "I understand why people are frustrated. ... But I can't really let that bother me. More than the contract, I just want to win. And if I'm not producing, I'm not helping the team." Jones should bounce back and he should be monitored because he might be in line for a strong hot start. That being said, when the dust settles, he isn't likely to get more than 15-20 points this season.

NewsDavid Jones might have had the worst night of any Colorado Avalanche player on Wednesday, as the team was flattened 3-0 by the Vancouver Canucks.
ImpactThe only bright side of Jones' season is that he made his one measly point (a goal) count: it was a power-play game-winner. Overall, he has a mediocre 10 shots on goal and a -5 rating. Many questioned Colorado's decision to pay him big money during the offseason and he's doing little to dispute those questions.
Jones:lockout was an emotional roller coaster | 01/09/2013 11:30 AM
NewsDavid Jones considered the lockout an "emotional roller coaster."
Impact"You just never knew what would happen," he said. "One week you're going hard and thinking about a season, and the next you're hearing that talks have broken off and you kind of dial things back down. Hopefully it's something we don't have to go through again." Given the length of the CBA, we won't know the answer to that question for quite some time. In the short term, Jones' focus will be on living up to the four-year, $16 million contract he inked over the summer.
