The struggles experienced by winger David Jones this season make the remainder of his contract seem like an albatross for the Avalanche going forward.

While he was coming off two consecutive 20-goal campaigns entering the year he was a huge disappointment this season and becomes a buyout candidate over the summer.

Jones had 20 goals and 37 points last season and a lot more was expected out of him this season, certainly more than three goals. If he is on your roster, reserve him until he is able to start scoring again.

David Jones makes the most of his goals, as his second of 2013 was also his second game-winner.

Considering his price tag, it's tough to stomach the fact that he has just five points in 2013. On the bright side, he has three of those points in his last two games, so maybe he's heating up.

The only bright side of Jones' season is that he made his one measly point (a goal) count: it was a power-play game-winner. Overall, he has a mediocre 10 shots on goal and a -5 rating. Many questioned Colorado's decision to pay him big money during the offseason and he's doing little to dispute those questions.

David Jones considered the lockout an "emotional roller coaster."
"You just never knew what would happen," he said. "One week you're going hard and thinking about a season, and the next you're hearing that talks have broken off and you kind of dial things back down. Hopefully it's something we don't have to go through again." Given the length of the CBA, we won't know the answer to that question for quite some time. In the short term, Jones' focus will be on living up to the four-year, $16 million contract he inked over the summer.
