ImpactMichalek missed 25 games last season with a knee injury that he said bothered him throughout the shortened season. No surgery was necessary in the off-season and, judging by his skating in the first game of the Sens' exhibition schedule Sunday, he appears to be fine. Bobby Ryan, a major off-season acquisition for Ottawa, also scored a goal for Ottawa, as did Buddy Robinson. Star defenseman Erik Karlsson had two assists for the Sens. Matt Halischuk had the Jets' lone goal. As for the goaltenders in this game, Albert Hammond was perfect on the 10 shots he faced while the other Ottawa goalie, Robin Lehner, impressed by stopping 17 of the 18 Winnipeg shots on him. Winnipeg goalie Michael Hutchinson stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced from the Sens.

ImpactMichalek's goal came at 8:16 of the second period, cutting the Sens' deficit to 2-1 for 10 minutes. The winger has never been great in the playoffs; in 48 playoff games, notching just 11 goals and 18 points, so this is certainly a good sign as this series continues. Chris Phillips and Andre Benoit picked up the assists on the goal. The Senators went 0-for-4 on the power play, and even though they finished with 30 shots, they had 34 more blocked.
