NewsThe Tampa Bay Lightning dealt B.J. Crombeen to the Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday.
ImpactCrombeen was sent to Phoenix along with Sam Gagner, whom the Lightning had obtained earlier in the day in a trade with Edmonton for Teddy Purcell, for a sixth-round pick in the 2015 NHL draft. Crombeen, 28, had three goals and seven assists in 55 games last season. He had 79 penalty minutes and has 771 in 387 NHL games. He will make $1.15 million this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent.

ImpactHis night finished after two shifts and 1:41 of ice time. The Lightning were enraged at the play when Rinaldo appeared to continue throwing punches when Crombeen was down on his knees. He looked woozy when he left the ice for repairs, but after the game he seemed to be better. "They always play a hard physical game and we're trying to establish that we do that, too," Crombeen said referring to the contest. "We're a big team, we play hard and we're willing to stand up for ourselves any time. When two teams like that meet, there's going to be some physicality and some bad blood that grows over time." We'll keep him as active for now. Crombeen has two assists and 30 penalty minutes in nine games.

ImpactThe Lightning forward has been a Type I diabetic since he was 9, and with training camp expected to be more intense than previous seasons, that means more "self-managing" for him, as the team's head trainer calls it. Tampa Bay acquired him in July from St. Louis. "As long as you're willing to take the time to manage it and check your blood and watch what you're eating, it becomes a way of life," Crombeen said.
