|Assets:||Plays in control and without a lot of panic in his own end. Also displays a great combination of size, strength and skating ability. Logs big minutes against the opposition's best. Owns a very big shot and is a solid passer. Has both offensive acumen and shutdown capability.|
|Flaws:||Doesn't use his size (6-3, 221 pounds) nearly enough to intimidate opposing players, mainly because he's not an overly aggressive type by nature. Lacks high-end offensive skills, aside from his big point shot. Can at times leave himself exposed to the big hit.|

Brent Seabrook doesn't make Team Canada | 01/07/2014 11:53 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook was one of Team Canada's biggest snubs.
ImpactSeabrook ranks third among Canadian defensemen with 31 points in 45 games this season. He also leads the pack with his plus-22 rating. If any of Canada's defensemen get hurt before the Olympics, Seabrook should be regarded as a prime candidate to fill that spot.

Brent Seabrook has grown with Blackhawks | 10/07/2013 11:28 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook has grown along with the Chicago Blackhawks during his previous eight years with the organization.
Impact"Duncan [Keith] and Patrick [Sharp] and myself were here in the dark days. We're the last from those days." said Seabrook. "It's been great seeing this franchise turn around with what we've been able to do and the changes that have gone on up top and just learning from them about being a winner and doing everything the right way." He surpassed game No. 600 with the team on Saturday. Seabrook is Chicago's most physical defenseman and he has become a leader on the club. He has six hits, six blocks, one goal and a minus-1 rating after two games this year.
Brent Seabrook and wife welcome new son | 08/20/2013 10:26 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook and his wife, Dayna, welcomed a new baby boy into world on Friday, and they named him Carter Seven Seabrook.
ImpactSeabrook obviously wears the No. 7 with the Blackhawks, so it's assumed the couple chose Carter's unique middle name for that reason and not because he's a big Mickey Mantle or "Seinfield" fan. We'd like to congratulate the Seabrook family on their newest member.
Seabrook's among Hawks leadership group | 06/21/2013 9:37 AM
NewsBlackhawks coach Joel Quenneville thinks Brent Seabrook's one of the team leaders even if he doesn't have a number on the front of his jersey.
Impact"Even at a young age here, five years going back, he was probably the one voice that you heard a lot in the locker room and probably the most on the bench or around even practice or game time or preparing between periods," Quenneville said. Seabrook has also come up big with two game-winning goals in the postseason, including Wednesday's deciding marker.
Seabrook's OT goal pulls Hawks even in Final | 06/19/2013 11:40 PM
NewsBrent Seabrook scored the overtime game-winning goal for the Blackhawks in their 6-5 victory Wednesday night against the Bruins.
ImpactThe Blackhawks prevail in the wildest game of the Stanley Cup Final yet, pulling them even in the series, 2-2. Three of the four tilts have gone overtime, but this one was a totally different beast as offense led the way. These two teams combined for 12 goals in the entire series prior to this game. Chicago got on the board first with Michal Handzus' shorthanded marker, and it then took two two-goal advantages: 3-1 (with goals from Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane) and 4-2 (with a goal from Marcus Kruger). Patrick Sharp netted a goal in the third period to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead as well. Michal Rozsival picked up two assists and was a game-high plus-three, while Sharp led the way with eight shots on goal. Niklas Hjalmarsson finished a game-low minus-three. We are lucky to be witnessing a tremendous Stanley Cup Final.

Brent Seabrook likes long rest in Stanley Cup | 06/15/2013 11:34 AM
NewsThe rest enjoyed by the Stanley Cup participants from Wednesday's 4-3 triple-overtime triumph by Chicago over the Boston Bruins to Game 2 tonight may not thrill hockey enthusiasts but Blackhawks' veteran Brent Seabrook thinks it's big.
Impact"Having the two-day break is huge," said Seabrook, who played 39:12 on Wednesday - third-most on the Blackhawks. "Just getting lots of rest, staying hydrated and try to get as much fluid and healthy, good food in your system as you can. Just getting ready and focus for the next one." Teammate Marian Hossa agrees, but he was annoyed with a neighbor for waking him early Thursday morning after the marathon opener. "I woke up early," Hossa said. "My neighbor decided he was going to drill in the morning. That was not very pleasant. Hopefully he is going to get the message for next time and he won't drill."
Hawks play Thursday impresses Brent Seabrook | 06/07/2013 8:46 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook was impressed with how the Blackhawks stepped up without Duncan Keith.
Impact"We talked about it all season, especially in the playoffs: our team game, team defense is what's been doing such a great job and Crow in the net making big saves," said Seabrook, referring to goaltender Corey Crawford. "When our forwards come back the way they are it makes it easier for us. We're just trying to get back there quick and get outlet passes for our forwards to go with the puck." Seabrook had a plus-one rating, three hits, and three blocked shots in Chicago's 3-2 victory. He also logged a team-high 26:20 minutes of playing time.
Brent Seabrook scores in Hawks victory | 06/02/2013 11:20 PM
NewsBrent Seabrook scored his second goal of the postseason in Chicago's 4-2 win over the Kings Sunday night.
ImpactThe goal wasn't quite as memorable as his overtime winner in Game 7 against the Red Wings, but a big tally nonetheless. Michal Handzus, Bryan Bickell and Andrew Shaw also found the back of the net for Chicago in the victory while Brandon Saad and Patrick Sharp each picked up a pair of helpers.

NewsBrent Seabrook expects to see more low scoring games in the Blackhawks Western Conference Final against the Kings.
ImpactThe Blackhawks took a 1-0 series lead on Saturday with their 2-1 win. "They're going to be tight, low scoring games," Seabrook said. "Both teams have highly skilled forwards and defensemen. It's going to be a tight series. Every goal is going to be important and we understand that."
Brent Seabrook gives Hawks 2-1 Game 7 win | 05/29/2013 11:12 PM
NewsBrent Seabrook sniped the game-winning overtime goal to lead the Blackhawks to the Western Conference final with a 2-1 victory over the Red Wings in Game 7 on Wednesday night.
ImpactThis game had a little bit of everything -- good and bad. It seemed as if the Blackhawks were on their way to a Game 7 win in regulation because with 1:49 remaining Niklas Hjalmarsson scored. However, matching roughing minors were called on Kyle Quincey and Brand Saad seconds before by the back official, negating the goal in a very controversial way. Patrick Sharp also potted a marker for the Blackhawks, and he now has seven goals and 11 points in 12 playoff games. Michal Handzus and Marian Hossa each notched assists. The Blackhawks will kick off their series with the Kings on Saturday.
Brent Seabrook back to playing major minutes | 05/28/2013 10:00 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook played 23 minutes for the second straight game Monday night.
ImpactThe bump in ice time comes after Seabrook played just 12:03 in Game 4 and a little over 17 minutes in Game 3. Perhaps not coincidentally, the Blackhawks have won each of the last two games and have forced a Game 7 after being down 3-1 in the series. "I felt like I did a good job of forgetting about it and getting ready for the next shift," Seabrook said after Monday's 4-3 win.
Brent Seabrook bounces back with good game | 05/27/2013 10:42 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook was so bad in the playoffs this season that Chicago coach Joel Quenneville had to reduce his playing time.
ImpactIn the Hawks 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night, however, Seabrook came up big offensively and defensively. "I thought he had a real strong game. His physical presence was noticeable; it was big and set the tone early," Quenneville said. "You've got to commend Seabs. The day before (Game 5) he was excited about the opportunity and prepared himself well." Seabrook couldn't put a finger on what was going wrong for him these playoffs. There was criticism for it, but he said he didn't really notice it that much; his biggest critic is the one he sees in the mirror every day. "I was just pissed at myself, first and foremost," he said. "I knew I had to be better." It probably did not hurt him that Quenneville reunited him with his old defense partner, Duncan Keith. Look for Seabrook and Keith to be paired together again tonight for Game 6 in Detroit.
Brent Seabrook's ice time cut by Hawks' coach | 05/25/2013 4:18 AM
NewsVeteran defenseman Brent Seabrook is slumping conspicuously in the Chicago Blackhawks' second-round playoff series against the Detroit Red Wings and Joel Quenneville is doing something about it.
ImpactThe Hawks' coach is cutting Seabrook's playing time. Seabrook's playoff-low 12:03 of ice time in the Hawks' 2-0 loss to the Red Wings Thursday is an alarming number for a player of his caliber - an eight-year veteran in the middle of a five-year, $29 million contract. He averaged 22:00 of ice time in the regular season, second highest on the team behind iron man Duncan Keith. The 12:03 against the Red Wings in Game 4 is the lowest time-on-ice of Seabrook's 658-game NHL career. His previous low was 13:27. He's never played less than 16:00 in a game over the past six seasons. Seabrook has contributed very little offensively and is a minus-4 against the Wings.
Brent Seabrook struggling offensively | 05/20/2013 7:21 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook has yet to garner a point in seven playoff games.
ImpactSeabrook is one of only two Blackhawks who have played in every playoff game to be held off the scoresheet as Michal Rozsival also is pointless, but Rozsival is plus-six while Seabrook is struggling with a minus-two rating. Seabrook had eight goals and 20 points in 47 regular season games so his fantasy owners in the playoffs hope a break out game is around the corner.
Seabrook : We'll keep loss in perspective | 05/19/2013 6:05 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook said that the Chicago Blackhawks will keep Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday in perspective.
ImpactChicago and the Red Wings are now tied at one game apiece after the Blackhawks lost at home Saturday. "We're pissed off about this afternoon but at the end of the day it's one game," Seabrook said. "Both teams would be stupid if they thought they'd come in here and either team would win four straight. It's a series. We knew it would be a battle. Obviously over the years of playing these guys, we know it's going to be a hard, tough series. We have to prepare better for Monday."
Chicago power play jumps 5 spots on weekend | 04/22/2013 6:37 AM
NewsThe Chicago Blackhawks power play went from 21st overall to 16th on the weekend, courtesy of a 4-7 weekend.
ImpactBrent Seabrook scored twice on Saturday and both were with the man-advantage, boosting the Blackhawks five spots in NHL rankings. "I liked the power play. We had good motion, good movement," coach Joel Quenneville said. "It's nice to see the finished product. It was definitely a sore point for a stretch of games here, so it's nice to see something come out of it on the power-play side."
Brent Seabrook gets two goals in SO loss | 04/20/2013 11:39 PM
NewsBrent Seabrook potted two goals in Chicago's 3-2 shootout loss versus the Coyotes on Saturday night.
ImpactThe goals raised the defenseman's total to eight on the year, and ended a skid of 11 games without one. Nick Leddy had two assists, while Patrick Kane chipped in with one.
Brent Seabrook has five points in five games | 03/27/2013 8:06 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook scored a goal in Chicago's 2-0 win Tuesday.
ImpactSeabrook has been hot lately with two goals and five points in his last five games. Overall, he has 16 points in 31 games in 2013 and we think that's a pace he can maintain through what's left of the 2013 campaign.
Brent Seabrook returns with a vengeance | 03/19/2013 6:52 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook had a goal and an assist after being benched for most of the second period Monday.
ImpactGabriel Landeskog scored a shorthanded goal as he beat Seabrook badly with 34 seconds to go in the first period. He did not get back on the ice until there was 7:23 left in the second and then he sparkled offensively. Seabrook now has five goals and 14 points, not too shabby for the defenseman.
Brent Seabrook calls himself slug defenseman | 03/02/2013 10:19 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook's goal in overtime kept the Blackhawks' record-breaking streak alive as they edged the Blue Jackets 4-3 Friday night at the United Center to remain without a regulation loss this season.
ImpactAt 18-0-3, the Hawks keep piling up the points, securing 39 of a possible 42 this season. Seabrook took a pass from Jonathan Toews three minutes, 23 seconds into overtime and beat Blue Jackets goaltender Steve Mason for the game-winner. "(Toews) is good - he's a hell of a player," Seabrook said, giving credit to his captain. "He usually likes to shoot low and I think (Columbus goaltender Steve) Mason was probably thinking he was going to shoot it. (Toews) had a slug defenseman (in me) going down on the off side so he made a great pass. I don't think the Blue Jackets defenseman, Mason or I expected it to come. Somehow he saw me and made a great pass. He didn't look at me once and I didn't yell. He's pretty good in those situations so I just let him do his thing. I don't think I shot the puck, it was such a hard pass it hit my stick and just bounced in."
Seabrook gets OT winner as Hawks stay hot | 03/02/2013 12:15 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook recorded the game-winning goal as the Blackhawks kept up their winning ways with a 4-3 overtime victory versus the Blue Jackets on Friday night.
ImpactThe winner was an easy one with half the net vacant, set up with a great no-look, cross-ice pass from Jonathan Toews after he faked the shot. Seabrook now has nine points on the season and is a pretty solid blueline option. Viktor Stalberg, Bryan Bickell and Patrick Sharp had the other goals in the victory. Chicago is now 18-0-3 on the year.
Brent Seabrook gets 21:17 minutes in return | 02/23/2013 10:59 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook was on the ice for 21:17 minutes in his return from a lower body injury on Friday.
ImpactSeabrook missed Tuesday's game due to the ailment. He had two penalty minutes and two shots on goal in Chicago's 2-1 win against San Jose.
Brent Seabrook set to play Friday night | 02/21/2013 3:14 PM
NewsBrent Seabrook is set to return from a lower-body injury on Friday night versus San Jose.
Chris Kuc on Twitter
ImpactHe returned to practice on Thursday after sitting out Tuesday's contest. Seabrook is among the league leaders in blocked shots this season, with 44, and he has also contributed eight points in 15 games.
Brent Seabrook won't play Tuesday night | 02/19/2013 1:55 PM
NewsBrent Seabrook has a lower-body injury and will not play Tuesday night.
Tracey Myers on Twitter
ImpactSeabrook was hit below the belt by a Drew Doughty slapshot Sunday afternoon, although coach Joel Quenneville would only say it was hit "somewhere." The injury is likely minor and Seabrook could be back in the lineup Friday night. Seabrook is off to a strong start this season with eight points in 15 games and his hits make him an even stronger play in expanded leagues.
Brent Seabrook picks up two points Sunday | 02/18/2013 10:34 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook scored a goal and registered an assist in Chicago's 3-2 victory Sunday.
ImpactSeabrook also blocked five shots to give him a league-high 44 this season. He's off to a solid start offensively with eight points in 15 games and he's an even better fantasy option in leagues that use some additional defensive categories like hits and, of course, blocked shots.
Seabrook leads league in blocked shots | 01/24/2013 9:36 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook has a league-leading 13 blocked shots in just three games.
Impact"I don't know who was counting them," Seabrook said. "Some of them just sort of grazed off me in good spots. It's one of those things where I'm trying to get in the right lanes and get in the way. A few pucks hit me. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing." Seabrook won't maintain that rate of blocked shots, but he will probably end up averaging about two per game. He's been more than willing to use his body to stop shots during his NHL career, which makes it all the more remarkable that he's played in at least 78 games in each of his previous six seasons.
Seabrook scores on the power play Wednesday | 01/23/2013 10:17 AM
NewsBrent Seabrook netted his first goal of the season on Wednesday.
ImpactSeabrook has reached the 30-point milestone in each of his last three campaigns, but of course he's not expected to continue that trend through the 48-game season. Still, he should get plenty of time with the man advantage and be a solid addition to any fantasy squad.
