Matt Stajan registers two assists vs Phoenix | 12/05/2013 8:49 AM
NewsMatt Stajan had two assists in Calgary's 4-1 win over Phoenix on Wednesday.
ImpactStajan has four goals and 12 points in 19 games this season. He's averaging 19:16 minutes per contest, which makes him worth keeping an eye on, but even still his offensive potential is nothing to get excited over.
Stajan scores twice in loss | 11/15/2013 3:36 AM
NewsMatt Stajan scored two goals in Calgary's 7-3 loss to Dallas Thursday evening.
ImpactStajan ended Kari Lehtonen's bid for back-to-back shutouts at 15:01 in the second period blasting a slap shot from the top of the faceoff circle past his glove. Stajan now has seven points in 11 games. David Jones had a goal and an assist for the Flames in the loss.
Matt Stajan scores first of the season | 10/31/2013 5:04 AM
NewsMatt Stajan scored his first goal of the season Wednesday.
ImpactIt was against his former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs so it must have felt good to the 29-year-old center as he has only played in four games due to a deep leg contusion but already has three points. Stajan should be in the 40-45 point range as he should see plenty of top-six minutes this season.
Matt Stajan will suit up Thursday night | 10/24/2013 2:34 PM
NewsMatt Stajan will return to Calgary's lineup Thursday from a leg injury.
ImpactHe missed eight games with a deep leg contusion. Stajan is slated to play between Curtis Glencross and Lee Stempniak.
No new news on return of Matt Stajan | 10/07/2013 6:56 AM
NewsThere is no new word on the possible return date of Matt Stajan who is out week-to-week with a deep leg contusion.
Impact"I saw him this morning and he looks like he had a few slices of pizza and burgers over the last week. He has a big butt right now (because of his injury)," coach Bob Hartley said. "Injuries always open the door for some new responsibilities for other players. At the same time, it gives us a chance to learn more about Monahan and Colborne and those guys and get them quality ice time in key situations. That's where you learn and that's where you get better." With the deep leg contusion, it may be a while for Stajan to even begin skating so Sean Monahan could be staying the whole season rather than the Flames even thinking about sending him back to junior hockey.
Calgary says Matt Stajan's out week-to-week | 10/04/2013 8:18 PM
NewsOne can assume that the Calgary Flames will soon place Matt Stajan on the injured reserve, as they pronounced him out week-to-week with a deep leg contusion.
Calgary Flames on Twitter
ImpactThe loss is biggest for Stajan, 29, who's in a contract year with an undeniably uncertain NHL future. For the Flames, it likely opens the door for young players to get some reps at the highest level. It's doubtful many fantasy owners were counting on much from Stajan, either.
Matt Stajan questionable, Colborne may play | 10/04/2013 3:47 PM
NewsMatthew Stajan (undisclosed) is questionable to play Friday.
Pat Steinberg on Twitter
ImpactHe got banged up in Thursday's contest at Washington and his status could be a game-time decision. If he is unable to play then Joe Colborne might make his Calgary debut in Stajan's place.
Stajan's big night help Flames beat Rangers | 09/24/2013 2:37 AM
NewsMatt Stajan had a goal and two assists as the Flames beat the Rangers 4-1.
ImpactCurtis Glencross and Dennis Wideman both had a goal and an assist while Karri Ramo stopped 28 shots and only conceded one goal for the Flames. Lance Bouma scored an empty-net goal for the Flames while Marc Staal had the lone goal for the Rangers.
Stajan sticks up for his teammate Monday | 09/17/2013 10:51 AM
NewsMatthew Stajan got into a fight in Monday's preseason game against the Ottawa Senators.
ImpactStajan was standing up for teammate David Jones after he was hit by Senators rookie Michael Sdao. "I saw his head snap back, so I kinda thought it was a bit of a head-shot," Stajan said. "It's something you do for your teammates. Guys do it for me all the time. It's a reaction play, and it's the kind of team we need. We're all in this together." Stajan has a chance to earn a spot on Calgary's first line. That makes him worth keeping an eye on, even if he hasn't had any fantasy value in years.
Stajan feels like he had a good season | 05/01/2013 8:49 AM
NewsMatthew Stajan is happy with how he did in 2013.
Impact"I think it was my best year personally," Stajan said. "The coaching staff showed a lot of confidence in me early in the season and gave me an opportunity. I really appreciated that and wanted to make the best of it. I felt like I did a pretty good job." Stajan had five goals and 23 points in 43 games after recording just 18 points in 61 contests in 2011-12. It's certainly a step up, but we don't anticipate him having much fantasy value in standard leagues next season.
Matthew Stajan returns to Flames' lineup | 04/18/2013 8:59 AM
NewsMatthew Stajan (upper body) returned to the Calgary Flames' lineup on Wednesday.
ImpactStajan missed four games due to the injury. He had a plus-one rating in 16:03 minutes of ice time.

Matthew Stajan out with upper body injury | 04/09/2013 6:19 AM
NewsMatthew Stajan suffered an upper body injury in the first period Monday and did not return after the intermission.
ImpactStajan was smacked into the boards by the Avs Patrick Bordeleau who picked up a two minute minor for his indiscretion. Stajan only played 3:27 minutes on Monday and now has five goals and 23 points in 38 games for the second last place Flames. His plus-five rating is quite good considering where the Flames are in the standings. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Stajan chips in two helpers | 04/07/2013 1:47 AM
NewsMatt Stajan led the rebuilding Flames with two assists on Saturday night but the team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Vancouver Canucks.
ImpactStajan is enjoying his best season as a Flame despite all the misery in Calgary this year with 23 points in 37 games.
Matt Stajan scores both Flames goals | 04/04/2013 1:15 AM
NewsMatt Stajan had far and away the best night of anyone for the Calgary Flames, scoring both of their goals as the Edmonton Oilers thumped them 8-2 on Wednesday.
ImpactFor a much-derided player, Stajan's actually been OK this season, collecting 21 points in 35 games. He's definitely on the fringe of even deep leagues, but that $3.5 million cap hit seems semi-reasonable with his respectable production. He could see a slight uptick on a desolate roster, but don't get your hopes up too high.
Coach Bob Hartley loves Matthew Stajan | 02/26/2013 6:41 AM
NewsCoach Bob Hartley has loved the play of Matthew Stajan this season.
ImpactStajan was not a big part of the Flames plans with only eight goals and 18 points last season in 61 games, as he was a healthy scratch for previous coach Brent Sutter on numerous occasions. But it's been a different story this season as Stajan's play has been so impressive that he is now on the top line with Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay. "I love Matty," Hartley said. "I think he's a great student of the game. He's a great hard-worker. And it seems that he wants more. I have absolutely no problem with this. I'm very happy with him. He's been unbelievable. He's been on pucks. He's forechecking. He's winning big faceoffs. He's a great penalty-killer. Five-on-five, I use him against the top forwards of the other team." Looks like Stajan is worth picking up in deeper pools as he has three goals, nine points and a plus-eight rating in 17 games.
Stajan picks up a pair in Flames win | 02/24/2013 8:46 AM
NewsMatt Stajan scored his second and third goals of the season in Calagary's 3-1 win over the WIld Saturday night.
ImpactThe 29 year-old forward hasn't been a legitimate fantasy force since he joined the Flames in 2009, however he was recently moved to centre Jarome Iginla and Alex Tanguay's line, which obviously payed off on Saturday night.
Stajan practices with Tanguay, Iginla | 02/23/2013 10:39 AM
NewsMatthew Stajan practiced alongside Alex Tanguay and Jarome Iginla on Friday.
ImpactWe've seen this before and it has yet to make Stajan worthy of a fantasy pickup. This development is interesting, but it wouldn't be surprising if the promotion is also extremely temporary. Either way, we can't recommend picking up Stajan over this news.
M. Stajan finds the back of the net Sunday | 02/18/2013 9:46 AM
NewsMatthew Stajan scored his first goal of 2013 in Calgary's 4-3 victory on Sunday.
ImpactStajan now has six points in 13 games. His stock has fallen significantly since the Calgary Flames acquired him in 2009-10 and we don't expect him to bounce back in any meaningful way this season.
Matthew Stajan picks up two assists | 02/01/2013 10:08 AM
NewsMatthew Stajan registered two assists on Thursday.
ImpactIt was Stajan's first two points in five games this season. He's currently getting some playing time with Jiri Hudler and Roman Cervenka and he might actually have a bit of fantasy value in that role. Most fantasy owners have long since soured on Stajan, but those looking for a short-term fix shouldn't be afraid to consider him.
Stajan views new season as fresh start | 01/10/2013 10:52 AM
NewsMatthew Stajan sees this upcoming season as a fresh start for him.
ImpactStajan needs one after scoring just eight goals and 18 points in 61 games last season. "The way things have gone haven't been exactly the way I thought it would go," Stajan said. But that's behind us. That's the past. A new coach comes in now, and everybody's got to gain his trust, play the system and fall into place where he sees you fit. As a player, I've always tried to do that and I'm eager to get going. We've got to get up to speed on systems and there's a lot to learn along the way, but I'm going to do what the coaches ask of me. I'm in good shape and ready to battle." Stajan is certainly worth keeping an eye on, but don't draft him in standard leagues. It's hard to envision him earning a top-six spot out of camp, but he might get an opportunity if someone else gets hurts or slumps early on.
