|Flaws:||Is smallish by NHL standards, and must shake the 'soft' label in order to maximize his overall upside. Can be prone to injuries because of his slight stature. Doesn't always shoot enough, so he can be more selfish.|

NewsNew York Islanders forward Frans Nielsen maintained his point-per-game pace, scoring a goal in his team's 5-2 loss against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
ImpactHe now has 22 in 22. Nielsen has long been respected by hardcore fans as a great two-way forward, but it's getting more difficult to dismiss his stats as a sign of a legitimate fantasy breakout. If nothing else, he's a nice depth option.
Frans Nielsen putting together career year | 11/09/2013 9:47 PM
NewsFrans Nielsen potted a goal for the Islanders but it wasn't nearly enough as they fell 5-2 to the Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
ImpactNielsen has turned himself into quite the player, and at 29 years old, he is putting together a career-best campaign. The center has nine goals and 18 points in 17 games played. He's got a very high (23.7 percent) shooting percentage, but he has enough playmaking ability to be a solid performer the rest of the way, even if he doesn't keep up the scoring pace. Thomas Hickey notched the other goal in the loss.

New York Newsday
ImpactNielsen has four goals and eight points in eight games thus far and is centering Joshua Bailey and Pierre-Marc Bouchard. "We've scored some nice goals," Nielsen said. "We're definitely playing with confidence, but if you look at our goals, I think every goal has come from winning the puck in our end. We haven't scored anything off cycling the puck. I just think we're doing what we did in the end of last year, making sure we're trying to be good without the puck. Hopefully, they've got some lazy backcheckers and we're taking advantage of that."
Frans Nielsen: This is a big week for us | 10/15/2013 8:45 AM

New York Newsday
ImpactThe Islanders will take on the struggling Buffalo Sabres and Edmonton Oilers before rounding things out with a division rival in the currently 2-2-2 Carolina Hurricanes. Nielsen thinks Isles need to improve pk | 09/29/2013 8:52 AM
NewsFrans Nielsen said that the New York Islanders lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the playoffs last season because of their special teams.
New York Newsday
ImpactNielsen thought that the penalty killing in particular must be improved this season. "I do think we lost that series because of the penalty kill and their power play," Nielsen said. "Five-on-five, we were the better team. We had a lot of meetings so far in camp and I think everybody is agreeing that [the penalty kill] wasn't good enough and it can't happen again if we're in that situation again, playoffs or regular season." The veteran Nielsen had trouble finding the back of the net last season with only six goals but look for him to return to the 20 goal mark with 50 points in 2013-14.
Frans Nielsen could see time on the point | 09/23/2013 9:07 AM
NewsFrans Nielsen could get some time on the point with the first power play.
New York Newsday
ImpactCoach Jack Capuano is looking to replace the departed Mark Streit and is playing Nielsen and Pierre-Marc Bouchard beside Lubomir Visnovsky on the first unit. If Nielsen gets the job, his fantasy value will increase as he will be playing with John Tavares and Matt Moulson on the first unit. The 29-year-old had only six goals in 48 games but had 23 assists so look for a 20 goal, 50 point season from Nielsen this season if he remains healthy.

Making the playoffs is a great accomplishment, but it has to be earned each year and the Islanders will need to stay consistent for longer stretches to make sure they remain as a team on the rise.

Frans Nielsen gets two assists in win | 04/01/2013 9:40 PM
NewsFrans Nielsen registered two assists in the Islanders' 3-1 win over the Devils Monday night.
ImpactThe two-way forward is generally more valuable in reality than fantasy. With the two helpers tonight, the underrated Nielsen now has 20 points in 36 games in this 48-game shortened season. He has some value in very deep leagues that also reward shorthanded points, but his inconsistency and lack of goals limits his fantasy worth.
