Lee Stempniak pots 12th goal of season | 04/14/2014 9:40 AM
NewsLee Stempniak potted his 12th goal of the season on Sunday.
ImpactStempniak was dealt from the Flames at the deadline and while he saw plenty of action alongside Sidney Crosby, the Penguins will likely use him on the third line in the playoffs. Do not expect a lot from Stempniak if that is his role but he should average about .4 points a game so if you think the Penguins are going deep into the post-season, then he is worth a late selection.

NewsLee Stempniak recorded an assist in Pittsburgh's 4-1 loss Tuesday night.

Stempniak adjusts to playing with Crosby | 03/25/2014 11:07 AM
NewsLee Stempniak is still adapting to playing alongside Sidney Crosby.
Impact"Just playing with someone with his kind of speed has definitely been an adjustment for me," Stempniak said. "He's got that burst. Such a burst. He's just so explosive. It takes awhile to get used to. Once he gets a step on a guy, you need to get him the puck. So much of it is anticipating when he's going to make a move." That being said, there's no question that Stempniak has already benefited from playing on a line with Crosby. He has two goals and seven points in 10 games with Pittsburgh.

Pens like what they've seen in Lee Stempniak | 03/13/2014 10:35 AM
NewsSince being acquired in a trade from the Calgary Flames last week, veteran forward Lee Stempniak has has found a spot as the top-line right winger with center Sidney Crosby and left winger Chris Kunitz and he has three assists, seven shots, five hits and five blocked shots.
Impact"He's making a lot happen," Crosby said of Stempniak. That was particularly true in the past two games, a Penguins sweep of back-to-back outings against Washington that led into a day off Wednesday. Monday, Stempniak and Crosby each assisted on two Kunitz goals in a 3-2 win at Washington. Tuesday, Stempniak, in his Penguins home debut, assisted on Crosby's insurance goal, had three shots and three hits. "It's been a pretty quick learning-by-fire here," Stempniak said. "The big thing is just trying to make sure I'm playing my game, but, at the same time, complement my linemates. Part of that is skating and trying to shoot the puck, hang onto the puck in the offensive zone. It's coming a bit more quickly now." It wasn't clear whether the Penguins would be able to address the need for a right winger on Crosby's line at the NHL trade deadline. Pascal Dupuis is out for the season after knee surgery. A possible replacement, Beau Bennett, has been out since befor

ImpactThis will give Pittsburgh a bit more scoring depth going into the playoffs. Stempniak has eight goals and 23 points in 52 games. If he ends up on one of the Penugins' top two lines, then he would have some fantasy value, but we wouldn't count on that happening.
Lee Stempniak expected to return on Monday | 03/03/2014 6:54 AM

ImpactCongratulations to the Stempniak family on the good news. Stempniak has only eight goals this season with 23 points in 52 games but his fantasy value really takes a hit when you add his minus-21 rating in. Nevertheless, he should be a top six forward for the Flames tonight.

ImpactStempniak was in Boston for the birth and has now missed both games since the Olympic break ended. He should be back when the Flames take on Monday. He has eight goals and 23 points in 52 games but his fantasy value in traditional pools is negligible due to his minus-21 rating.

NewsLee Stempniak has gone 11 straight games without recording a single point.
ImpactStempniak has been a huge disappointment this season with 13 points and a minus-18 rating in 33 games. That's so bad that we're not even sure the Flames will be able to get anything worthwhile for him in a trade before he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's certainly capable of much more than this, but even still, we can't recommend owning him in standard leagues at this time.

Veteran criticizes Flames for lack of fire | 11/18/2013 8:14 AM
NewsVeteran Calgary winger Lee Stempniak thinks the Flames have a tendency to go into a funk after allowing goals.
Impact"We let things snowball," Stempniak said after Sunday's practice at the Scotiabank Saddledome. "We gave up a goal (in a 4-2 loss to Edmonton on Saturday night) . . . and from there we weren't the same team. We compounded the mistakes instead of forgetting about it and moving on and buckling down. You've got to be a mature enough team to know . . . you're going to get scored on at some point in most games, but you can't let that derail your whole effort. If you get scored on, you've got to be mad. You want to get even. You want to come back. You've just got to be, for lack of a better word, pissed when you get scored on. Not run around and be reckless, but you've got to have that feeling where you have to get it back."

Flames need to be honest with themselves | 11/15/2013 9:15 AM
NewsLee Stempniak wasn't in the mood to sugarcoat Calgary's 7-3 loss to Dallas on Thursday.
ImpactIt was Calgary's fifth loss in a row. "I guess, if anyone was sort of kidding themselves and thought, 'Hey we didn't play that bad, we were in it until the end,' you just need to look in the mirror now. We got completely outplayed in every facet of the game," said Stempniak. "If you're being honest with yourself, you know we haven't played well and we need to be better." Stempniak feels that if it takes hitting rock bottom to open the eyes of some of his teammates, then maybe it will be worth it. Calgary might not be at rock bottom yet, but they're certainly heading in that direction with a 6-10-3 record.

ImpactStempniak fired a team-high eight shots on goal in the contest and appears to have picked up where he left off last season. "During the lockout, it was Ryan Whitney, Keith Yandle, Shawn Thornton, Brad Marchand, Tuukka Rask, Jay Pandolfo, Greg Campbell, Dan Paille and myself," Stempniak said.
