Columbus Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen hasn't made a decision on whether to pursue pending unrestricted free agent Vaclav Prospal.
Kekalainen did add that he's very satisfied with Prospal's performance this season. "He made a big contribution," Kekalainen said. "He always scores. I've seen him since he was a young kid. You always wonder how he does it, but every year he does it. He scores goals and has assists and contributes that way. He's had a great career, and I have a lot of respect for his career and the way he played this year." Prospal had 12 goals and 30 points in 48 games.

"Vinny has helped us (coaches) out in a lot of ways," coach Todd Richards said. "It's his preparedness. It's his professionalism. It's his passion. He brings it all to the table, and he has for a long time now. He's a guy who knows how to have fun. He makes the work fun, and the guys feed off that. But he's also a guy who knows when it's time to get busy and get to work, and the guys see that, too." Prospal will become a UFA at the end of the season but does want to return to the Blue Jackets. Prospal has 12 goals and 29 points in 46 games this season.

Prospal is now on a three-game point streak. With 11 goals and 26 points in 42 games, Prospal isn't exactly having a great season by his standards, but he might still finish the campaign on a strong note as the Blue Jackets compete for one of the final playoffs spots.

He has 18 points in 30 games this season. Jack Johnson earned two helpers in the contest, while Mark Letestu had a goal and an assist. Derick Brassard recorded the game-winning goal.

Blue Jackets coach was not pleased with the actions of Vinny Prospal towards the end of Saturday's 3-0 win over Detroit.
With time winding down in the game, Prospal motioned to Detroit forward Justin Abdelkader to have a look at the scoreboard, an act for which he was assessed a 10-minute misconduct as well as a talking-to from his head coach. "I didn't like it," Richards said. "We're not about that." The issue was reportedly discussed amongst the team after the victory, but fantasy owners in rotisserie formats aren't exactly upset about the bonus 10 PIM racked up by Prospal.

Prospal has recorded at least one point in four straight games. He has three goals and two assists during that time to give him 14 points in 23 contests this season. Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu scored in the shootout to give the Jackets the win.

Prospal has gotten hot lately with four goals and six points in seven games this season. He's on pace to get 25 points this season and we think that's a reasonable projection for him.

"It was the right decision we made at the time," Prospal said. "Quite honestly, I cannot imagine what kind of shape I would be in, or how I would look, if I had not played these last three months. I'm not 27. I'm not 17. I'm 37, and I'll be 38 next month. I needed to play. I don't have many years left. Who knows how many years I have left in the NHL?" Prospal had nine goals and 23 points in 19 Czech games. Without Jeff Carter and Rick Nash on the team, Prospal won't have a lot of offensive talent to play with. Still, he'll probably get first line duties with the Blue Jackets and have some fantasy value.
