NewsMike Komisarek will remain in the fold Monday night for the Hurricanes.
Raleigh News & Observer

Muller likes what he sees from Komisarek | 10/22/2013 9:36 AM
NewsHurricanes coach Kirk Muller liked what he saw from Mike Komisarek on Saturday.
Raleigh News & Observer
ImpactKomisarek had spent his previous three games in the press box. "I was really pleased with him," Muller said. "He looked very comfortable. That's where the experience kicks in." Even if Komisarek starts playing more regularly, the defensive defenseman won't have much fantasy value in standard leagues.
Mike Komisarek won't play vs Leafs Thursday | 10/17/2013 5:02 PM
NewsMike Komisarek will be a healthy scratch on Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Raleigh News & Observer
ImpactKomisarek was bought out by the Maple Leafs over the summer and signed by the Carolina Hurricanes. Unfortunately, the change in scenery hasn't translated into increased responsibilities for the defensive defenseman.
Komisarek might face former team Thursday | 10/17/2013 9:01 AM
NewsMike Komisarek might be put into the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.
Raleigh News & Observer
ImpactIt will be Komisarek's first chance to play against the team that bought him out over the summer. "We'll see," he said. "I think as the summer goes by and you start the season, you don't reflect. You digest what's gone on in the past and you move on and look forward." He's out from under the expectations of his big contract, but at the same time he hasn't done much this season. The Hurricanes have only used him in one game and he was limited to 14:14 minutes.
Mike Komisarek makes seasonal debut | 10/13/2013 7:58 AM
NewsMike Komisarek saw his first action in a Carolina uniform this season.
Los Angeles Times

Mike Komisarek will be scratched again Tues. | 10/08/2013 2:30 PM
NewsMike Komisarek is still waiting to make his Carolina debut.
Raleigh News & Observer
ImpactHe's slated to be a healthy scratch for a third straight time on Tuesday night. "No changes," coach Kirk Muller said. "The way the team played the other night, I don't see any reason to change it up." Komisarek will have to wait for his opportunity to get into the lineup.
Canes coach pleased with Mike Komisarek | 09/28/2013 10:41 AM
NewsCarolina coach Kirk Muller is looking forward to strong contributions from defenseman Mike Komisarek in the NHL's regular season, which opens next week.
Raleigh News & Observer
Impact"I was really pleased with Mike (in the preseason)," Muller said. "He only played maybe 10 games, tops, last year (with the Toronto Maple Leafs). He missed a lot and we've got to build his confidence back up." Komisarek played almost 19 minutes and blocked three shots and looked strong in the Canes' 1-0 shutout of the Buffalo Sabres Friday night in their final preseason game.
Komisarek could be a bargain for Canes | 08/27/2013 4:25 PM
NewsThe Carolina Hurricanes will pay Mike Komisarek $700,000 next season to see if he still what it takes to be a serviceable NHL blueliner.
Raleigh News & Observer
ImpactIf he can play the way he did during his final few seasons in Montreal then the Hurricanes' low-risk gamble to bring him on board has the potential to be a great off-season bargain. If it works out this season then he's open to signing a longer term contract with Carolina. "It was really the only team I thought was a perfect fit before the whole free-agency process started," Komisarek said. "At the end of the day, I didn't want to hold out for the best contract. I wanted to go somewhere where I could regain my confidence and get back to my old self."
Komisarek looking 'to prove people wrong' | 08/20/2013 12:05 PM
NewsMike Komisarek is eager to prove his doubters wrong this season, with his new squad in Carolina.
Impact"It's amazing when people write you off, put you in a box and put a label on you," said Komisarek. "It's exciting to try to prove people wrong. I've had a great summer, new one born in May. Puts a different perspective on things. I've got that same sort of feeling I had when I was a rookie. It's definitely a breath of fresh air, go down there and just play. Don't worry about anything. No expectations. I feel like I'm going to my first training camp. A great fresh start for myself. A new beginning." He signed a one-year deal with the Hurricanes in July after he was bought out by the Maple Leafs. Komisarek appears to be motivated by the fresh start he is getting, but he probably won't have much fantasy this season unless your league credits penalty minutes, hits and blocks.
Mike Komisarek ready for 'fresh start' | 07/06/2013 9:25 AM
NewsMike Komisarek is ready for a "fresh start" with the Hurricanes.
Raleigh News & Observer
ImpactKomisarek has been a shell of his former self (and injury-prone) since signing a five-year, $22.5 million deal with Toronto in 2009. He played just four games in the NHL this year after being placed on waivers. "You sign a big contract, you come in there as a hot free agent and you want to change the world," Komisarek said. "You can't do that in a day, a week, a month. It's a process. I didn't get off on the right foot and never recovered from there. It just wasn't working out. ... Right now I'm excited for the opportunity to prove a lot of people wrong and having that fresh start." On a one-year, $700,000 deal, Komisarek is a good gamble for the bottom pair.
Hurricanes, Mike Komisarek agree to terms | 07/05/2013 12:31 PM
NewsThe Carolina Hurricanes have inked Mike Komisarek to a one-year/$700k contract.
Darren Dreger on Twitter
ImpactKomisarek became an unrestricted free agent after the Maple Leafs bought him out. He's a serviceable defensive defenseman that averages more than a penalty minutes per game, but he has next to no offensive upside.
Leafs make Mike Komisarek buyout official | 07/02/2013 7:22 PM
NewsMike Komisarek has been bought out by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
James Mirtle on Twitter
ImpactHe skated in just four games with Leafs last season and spent some time in the minors as well. Komisarek will be looking for a fresh start somewhere else as an unrestricted free agent. He was classy despite a rough tenure in Toronto tweeting, "It was a privilege playing for a first class organization like the Leafs even though things did not turn out as I would have liked."
Leafs set to buy out Mike Komisarek | 06/24/2013 12:06 PM
NewsAccording to TSN's Darren Dreger, Toronto is expected to buy out the remainder of Mike Komisarek's contract.
ImpactThe move wouldn't be the least bit surprising after Komisarek dressed in just four games with the Maple Leafs in 2013 prior to being sent down to the minors. He has one year left on his five-year, $22.5 million contract, which carries a cap hit of $4.5 million.
Mike Komisarek clears waivers. heads to AHL | 03/21/2013 3:15 PM
NewsMike Komisarek has cleared waivers and he'll report to the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
ImpactLeafs GM Dave Nonis praised Komisarek for his willingness to waive his no-movement clause and his expected assignment to the Marlies. The veteran defenseman simply wants to play somewhere after being a healthy scratch since Jan. 2, but it's unclear how much playing time he'll get in the AHL.
Leafs waive defenseman Mike Komisarek | 03/20/2013 1:01 PM
NewsMike Komisarek has reportedly waived his no-movement clause and has been placed on waivers by the Maple Leafs.
ImpactIf he isn't claimed by another team then he will report to the Toronto Marlies in the AHL. Komisarek has spent most the 2013 season as a healthy scratch and he's suited up in only four games. He still has one more year left on his current contract after this year at an average annual value of $4.5 million.
Mike Komisarek denies he asked for a trade | 03/04/2013 3:03 PM
NewsMike Komisarek quickly denied a report over the weekend that he wants to be traded.
Impact"I'm curious to see where you guys get your stuff," Komisarek said Sunday. "We will see how it unfolds. Right now I am just taking it day by day. I'm sure you guys will be the first ones to know. It must be a slow news day." The Toronto defenseman wants to play though, so he wouldn't stand in the way of a deal if it came to that. Komisarek has been a healthy scratch since Feb. 2 and he's not expected to play Monday against New Jersey either.
Komisarek gives list of teams he'd play for | 03/02/2013 6:46 PM
NewsMike Komisarek has provided the Toronto Maple Leafs with a list of 12 teams he'd accept a trade to.
ImpactKomisarek played in just 45 games last season and only four in 2013. Toronto would probably love to trade him and his $4.5 million annual cap hit, but his stock has likely fallen to the point where that might not be possible unless the Leafs are willing to keep a portion of his cap hit or accept a bad contract in return. Instead, they might simply use an amnesty buyout on him this summer.
Mike Komisarek (eye) is cleared to return | 01/30/2013 2:53 PM
NewsMike Komisarek (eye) skated with his teammates on Wednesday.
ImpactHe didn't play on Tuesday after bits of his stick got into his eye Monday. "Shooting some pucks after practice, missed the net a few times and took it out on my stick," Komisarek said when explaining the strange injury. "Next thing you know, stick breaks and a bunch of graphite goes in my eye and my face. Had to go see the eye specialist. Had to have it removed and have a stitch in the eyeball. Mark that down as a first for me. Something I don't want to do again. Bad accident. At the end of the day, don't take it out on your stick and try to hit the net. Not the stick's fault." It's good to see he has a sense of humor about the incident and he's been cleared to return to the lineup for Thursday's contest. However, coach Randy Carlyle may want to keep Cody Franson and Mark Fraser in after they both played well against Buffalo on Tuesday night.
Mike Komisarek won't play Tuesday night | 01/29/2013 1:21 PM
NewsMike Komisarek got a piece of fiberglass in his eye Monday and won't play Tuesday night.
Jonas Siegel on Twitter
ImpactGiven the history of NHL players and eye injuries, it's lucky Komisarek isn't hurt worse. There' no timetable on how much time he'll miss, but we'll let you know as soon as we hear more. On the season, he has no points, two penalty minutes and has a +1 rating.
Komisarek looking to prove doubters wron | 01/08/2013 10:49 PM
NewsMaple Leafs defenseman Mike Komisarek feels this season is an opportunity to prove his detractors wrong.
ImpactKomisarek knows that he's a candidate to have his contract bought out by the club over the summer, saying "I don't want to make a headline, but you want to quiet people down and you want to shut people up. I know what I've shown is not the player I'm capable of [being]. I'm probably my harshest critic and I'm disappointed in myself, but you move on. I'm looking forward to having a good season." The defensive-minded blueliner is not worth a selection in fantasy leagues.
