|Assets:||Has excellent instincts and offensive creativity. Owns an effortless skating stride and incredible puck skills. Possesses outstanding playmaking ability. Also has an uncanny ability to hold onto the puck a very long while.|
|Flaws:||Gets hurt way too often. Doesn't shoot the puck enough, even when he's in prime scoring position. Isn't physically strong enough to dominate in the corners. Can appear lazy at times, since his game is more graceful than gritty.|
|Career Potential:||Dangling, playmaking but fragile scoring winger.|

Ales Hemsky scores in Edmonton win | 12/01/2013 9:23 PM
NewsAles Hemsky helped the Edmonton Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 3-2 via a shootout on Sunday.
ImpactHe scored his fifth goal of the season, giving him 14 points in 28 games. The fragile winger isn't scoring in quality-over-quantity ways at the same level as he did before, but if he could get a spark, he could be an interesting depth option. Right now he's a borderline case, though.
Ales Hemsky scores fourth of the season | 11/17/2013 5:41 AM
NewsAles Hemsky scored his fourth goal of the season in a rare Edmonton win.
ImpactHemsky now has 11 points in 22 games but his minus-12 rating really is his undoing in fantasy hockey. Hemsky has had 77, 71 and 66 points in the past but his last good season was five years ago and his fantasy value has taken a big hit since then. He could be worth a pickup if he was dealt to a contender but he is not worth selecting while in Edmonton.
Ales Hemsky has been very cold lately | 11/03/2013 10:28 AM
NewsEdmonton Oilers winger Ales Hemsky has suffered from some serious struggles, including a five-game pointless streak.
ImpactThe poor streaks go further than that. He also has one goal in the last eight games and two in the last 12 (with no assists). This is all especially disappointing after scoring in three consecutive games to start the season. It's hard to imagine Edmonton sticking with Hemsky all season long with his deal set to expire.
Ales Hemsky earns Dallas Eakins' plaudits | 10/06/2013 6:27 PM
NewsThere's not much to like about what the Edmonton Oilers are doing right now, but one guy head coach Dallas Eakins pinpointed is Ales Hemsky.
Edmonton Oilers on Twitter
ImpactThe 30-year-old might become trade bait once again, but for now, he's a catalyst; he has one goal and two assists for three points in two games. "He's been unbelievable," Eakins said. "We need more Ales Hemsky's on our team right now. He's playing with tremendous passion."
Hemsky's solid night not enough for Oilers | 10/02/2013 5:12 AM
NewsAles Hemsky had a goal and an assist as the Jets lose to the Oilers 5-4 in their season opener at Rexall Place.
ImpactJesse Joensuu, Boyd Gordon and Luke Gazdic all scored their first goal as an Oiler as Oilers fell short in their season opener. Oilers already lead the game 4-2 but the Jets scored the last three goals to give Jets the win.
Ales Hemsky getting chance on top line | 09/22/2013 8:15 AM
NewsAles Hemsky is getting a chance as a top-six forward in training camp with Taylor Hall and Ryan Smyth as linemates.
ImpactHemsky has had some very good offensive seasons for the Oilers but his last one was in 2008-09 when he had 66 points. He has been injury-prone of late and must make the most of his opportunity before Ryan Nugent-Hopkins returns to action, likely in early November. Hemsky should be a third line player this season and as such, should not be taken in fantasy pools.

NewsAles Hemsky appears to be fine after leaving Saturday night's exhibition game with an illness.

Ales Hemsky see 13-14 as a fresh start | 09/05/2013 10:09 AM
NewsAles Hemsky is eager to put the trade rumors behind him.
ImpactOilers GM Craig MacTavish shopped Hemsky over the summer, but took him "off the market" on Wednesday. "I'm looking at this like a fresh start," Hemsky said. "We have a new coach and we want to turn things around. It's a fresh start for me. I've been through this for a long time and I just want to put this behind me and focus on this year." He averaged just 15:42 minutes per game last season and we don't anticipate that to change dramatically in 2013-14. With that in mind, he probably won't exceed 50 points even if he stays healthy.
Oilers' Ales Hemsky is 'off the market' | 09/04/2013 1:09 PM
NewsThe Edmonton Oilers are no longer looking to trade Ales Hemsky.
Impact"He's off the market," Oilers GM Craig MacTavish said. "We want [Ales] to come in and make an impression. We want him to play a prominent role." We can't imagine teams were offering the Oilers much for Hemsky to begin with. His $5 million cap hit for the 2013-14 campaign is a big hindrance given his recent injury history and regression in terms of production over the last few years. He had eight goals and 20 points in 38 games in 2013. That being said, if the Oilers aren't able to compete for the playoffs this season, then teams desperate for veteran leadership and secondary scoring might re-evaluate his worth at the trade deadline.
Looks like Ales Hemsky will stay with Oilers | 08/01/2013 9:25 AM
NewsIt looks like Ales Hemsky will open training camp with the Edmonton Oilers.
ImpactAt least that's the sense we get from Oilers GM Craig MacTavish, who said he's spoken to Hemsky and his agent about reporting to camp despite the Oilers trying to trade him previously. "We all know how good he is and we all know what an impact he had the last time the Oilers made the playoffs," MacTavish said. "We're hopeful given this new environment and a more competitive team, I believe going forward, that it's really going to play to Ales' skill set and his ability to help us."
Writer: Sens may reach out for Ales Hemsky | 07/27/2013 10:47 AM
NewsThe Ottawa Senators would seem the most likely to reach out to the Edmonton Oilers for right winger Ales Hemsky, who is available on the trade market.
ImpactSo says Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, who figures the Sens may come calling for Hemsky now that the soul of the Ottawa franchise, Daniel Afreddson, has joined the Detroit Red Wings. Ottawa, Matheson notes, "also traded Swede Jakob Silfverberg to get Bobby Ryan from Anaheim and might move him to right side from his usual left. After Ryan it's third-liner Chris Neil, Eric Condra and J. Pageau, and they do have more than $11 million in cap room. But, maybe Sens' owner Eugene Melnyk wants to save money not spend more. Who might fit in a Hemsky trade if the Sens called? How about big role playing winger Colin Greening, who only makes $800,000 or so. He's built like J.F. Jacques and is an excellent third to fourth-liner (he had 19 points in 46 games last year). . ."
Oilers might start season with Ales Hemsky | 07/23/2013 10:01 AM
NewsThe Edmonton Oilers might end up keeping Ales Hemsky despite earlier speculation that he would be traded.
Impact"I'm comfortable with that," Oilers GM Craig MacTavish said. "Given the circumstances, Ales certainly has the game that would help us moving forward. He's on a one-year deal and I think both sides would be motivated to make it a very successful year." Hemsky had nine goals and 20 points in 38 games last season. The Oilers might have found it difficult to trade him because of his $5 million cap hit.
Ales Hemsky's future with Oilers is unclear | 07/21/2013 10:33 AM
NewsAles Hemsky's future with the Edmonton Oilers organization is pretty cloudy.
ImpactWith the wave of free agent moves over, it appears that Hemsky's $5 million cap hit might prove too difficult to trade ... at least for now.
Alex Hemsky likely to be elsewhere in 2013-14 | 05/20/2013 8:19 AM
NewsAlex Hemsky will likely be dealt in the off-season according to The Edmonton Journal.
ImpactThe injury-prone forward is quite the scorer when healthy but he has been anything but the last four seasons as he has missed 118 games in that span. "I don't think there's a market for him . . .I shouldn't say there's no market," said former NHL GM Craig Button, who now works for TSN. "But the salary cap is coming down to $64.3 million. He makes $5 million for one more year. Would the Oilers pick up half of that to trade him, 50-50 (with another team)? That would still free up $2.5 million in cap space for the Oilers. I don't know if they can get something tangible in return for Hemsky. Andrew Cogliano got the Oilers a second-round draft (pick). I don't know if they can get that for Hemsky." Hemsky has struggled the last two seasons with 20 points in 38 games this season and 36 points in 69 games in 2011-12 but was a point-a-game player, or close to it, before that.
Ales Hemsky might be done for the season | 04/19/2013 10:16 AM
NewsAles Hemsky (foot) might not return before the end of the season.
ImpactHemsky has nine goals and 20 points in 38 games this season. The Oilers will be looking to shake things up this summer and might trade Hemsky as a result. It would be surprising if there's a lot of demand for him though given that he comes with a $5 million cap hit in 2013-14 and hasn't lived up to that kind of contract over the last two seasons.
Report: Ales Hemsky on broken bone for month | 04/13/2013 11:18 AM
NewsWhile the Edmonton Oilers haven't said anything yet, the Edmonton Sun says it suspects Ales Hemsky has been playing with a broken bone in his foot for a month.
Impact"I had it for a little while," said the 29-year-old winger, who's been on the limp since March 7. "I blocked a shot in Detroit on the big road trip. It's been a struggle since then." The Oilers have decided to rest Hemsky for at least a week.
Ales Hemsky (foot) doesn't practice Thursday | 04/12/2013 10:19 AM
NewsAles Hemsky missed Thursday's practice due to his foot injury.
ImpactHemsky was able to return from the ailment on Wednesday, but clearly he still hasn't fully recovered. Because he has been able to play through the ailment recently, we'll pencil him in for Saturday's game for now.
Oilers will get Ales Hemsky back Wednesday | 04/10/2013 5:13 PM
NewsAles Hemsky is projected to be back in the lineup Wednesday after he sat out Monday's contest with a foot injury.
Impact"A couple of days rest seemed to do him well," said coach Ralph Krueger. "It is an injury that we've all spoken about that he's going to have to manage for awhile. It didn't go away but he feels good to go today." Ryan Jones will head to the press box to make room for Hemsky's return.
Ales Hemsky (foot) will miss Monday's game | 04/08/2013 6:39 PM
NewsAles Hemsky isn't expected to play Monday due to a foot injury.
ImpactHemsky had been playing through the ailment. He has nine goals and 20 points in 37 games this season.
Ales Hemsky plays through undisclosed injury | 04/02/2013 10:36 AM
NewsAles Hemsky is playing through an undisclosed injury.
ImpactThat's why Hemsky was limited to just 12:06 minutes on Monday. "He has a nagging issue and he's been courageous managing it, but we can't talk about (what body part is hurt)," said Oilers coach Ralph Krueger. Keep a close eye on his playing time as his fantasy value could be significantly hampered by this development.
Ales Hemsky ends goalless slump with GWG | 03/29/2013 9:06 AM
NewsAles Hemsky netted the game-winning goal on Thursday.
ImpactHemsky ended a 12-game goal scoring slump. He's been the subject of trade rumors, but the Oilers are in a difficult position. On the one hand, their rebuilding efforts aren't completely over so it might make sense to trade Hemsky if there's a strong market for him. At the same time, they still have an outside chance of making the playoffs this season and there's no urgency to trade him because his contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2014.
Ales Hemsky gets two assists in loss Monday | 03/25/2013 10:38 PM
NewsAles Hemsky registered two assists in the Oilers' 3-2 loss to the Predators Monday night.
ImpactHemsky has been remarkably healthy in this 48-game shortened season for a guy with his history. However, he's only been useful in deeper leagues. With the assists tonight, Hemsky now has 19 points in 30 games in 2013.
Ales Hemsky gets end of game off | 03/13/2013 10:36 AM
NewsAles Hemsky didn't play in the final eight minutes of Tuesday's contest.
ImpactHemsky was put in the lineup despite the fact that he was sick, so when the Oilers' victory seemed all-but assured, he was given the rest of the night off. This is just an FYI in case you saw that he only logged 11:26 minutes and were worried.
Ales Hemsky set to return on Sunday | 03/10/2013 2:03 PM
NewsIt looks like Ales Hemsky will be back in the Edmonton Oilers' lineup on Sunday.

ImpactHe was dealing with a foot injury after a puck hit that spot during Thursday's game, forcing him to sit out Friday's action. He's been useful and remarkably healthy for a guy with his history, only missing one game in 2013.
Ales Hemsky suffers a foot injury Thursday | 03/08/2013 10:31 AM
NewsAles Hemsky left Thursday's game after his foot was struck by a shot.
ImpactThe good news is Hemsky's foot isn't believed to be broken. He's still doubtful for Friday's contest, but should otherwise be regarded as day-to-day.
Ales Hemsky powers 5-1 win with three points | 03/01/2013 1:28 AM
NewsAles Hemsky contributed to three of the Oilers' goals in their 5-1 win over the Stars on Thursday night.
ImpactThe winger recorded a goal and two helpers. While Hemsky has 13 points this season, he hadn't put up a point in six games and has been a bit up and down production-wise this season. Justin Schultz and Jeff Petry each had a goal and an assist, while Ben Eager and Sam Gagner registered goals. Jordan Eberle and Lennart Petrell chipped in with two assists apiece.
Ales Hemsky extends points streak to 3 games | 02/07/2013 1:53 AM
NewsAles Hemsky had a goal and an assist against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the Edmonton Oilers lost 3-2 in OT.
ImpactHemsky is really starting to generate a nice run. He has a three-game point streak with two goals and two assists in that span. Overall, he has seven points in 10 games and represents an interesting mix of risk (injuries, role) versus reward (talent and teammates).
What Ales Hemsky will show up this season? | 01/20/2013 1:54 PM
NewsWhat Ales Hemsky will show up this season? The answer is one that could have a big impact on the Oilers' season.
ImpactHe signed a two-year deal with the club, but it was more on promise than anything else as he had only 36 points last season and has been injury prone and disappointing over the past three years. The good news for the Oilers is that he performed very well in the Czech league, with 32 points in 27 games. The focus also won't be on him, as he's slotted on the second line with Sam Gagner and Nail Yakupov.
Oilers' Ales Hemsky healthy and optimistic | 01/12/2013 11:39 AM
NewsAfter recovering from shoulder surgery last season, forward Ales Hemsky managed to play in 69 games, but posted just 10 goals and 26 assists, his lowest totals - not counting a 22-game, injury-shortened year - since his sophomore season.
ImpactHeading into the first year of a two-year, $10-million contract extension, Hemsky is healthy and optimistic. He spent the lockout with his hometown club, CSOB Pojistovna Pardubice, where he led the team with 14 goals and 18 assists in 27 league games. "It was nice; I played in my home city and spent a lot of time with my family and friends, and it was good to be able to play hockey in front of them," Hemsky said. "I was having fun, but now that the lockout is over I can focus on playing in the NHL. It's nice to be back, finally. Just to spend time with the guys and skate with them, it's fun. It's a great feeling."
