NewsWith T.J. Oshie out, St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock started Steve Ott on the top line with David Backes and Alex Steen.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Steve Ott, Blues lose fifth straight | 04/11/2014 11:45 PM
NewsSteve Ott and the Blues were shut out by the Stars on Friday night, losing for the fifth straight game and essentially losing their grip on the Central Division.
ImpactThe Blues will need to beat the Red Wings on Sunday and the Avalanche to lose their final to games to have any shot at the division title. Steve Ott has struggled significantly since the trade from Buffalo, as the feisty 31 year old has just three assists and is a -12 in 22 games with his new club.
Steve Ott looks forward to playing vs. Sabres | 04/03/2014 10:29 AM
NewsSteve Ott is excited to play against his former Buffalo teammates on Thursday night.
Impact"I'm looking forward to it a lot, but I'm trying to take it like any game where you have friends out there," Ott said. "I'm just going to be myself and I expect them to be the same. There's no friends on the ice, but what's said and done on the ice stays there and gets forgotten pretty quick. I'm going to play hard against them and expect them to play hard at me. You owe that to the league." Ex-Sabres netminder Ryan Miller will be on the bench for the match and Brian Elliott will start instead. Ott was the captain for Buffalo before he was shipped to St. Louis, along with Miller, just before the trade deadline.
Blues keep forward lines stable | 03/08/2014 12:55 PM
NewsSteve Ott will once again play alongisde Derek Roy, with whom he played briefly in Buffalo.
Lou Korac Twitter
ImpactThe Blues' forward lines will remain the same as they have for the past three games that has produced three victories. Alexander Steen will skate on the first unit alongside David Backes and T.J. Oshie, while Jaden Schwartz, Patrik Berglund and Vladimir Tarasenko will form the second line. Derek Roy will skate between Ott and Brenden Morrow, while Magnus Paajarvi, Maxim Lapierre and Ryan Reaves will be the fourth unit. Despite playing very well this past week, Paajarvi's spot is going to be threatened when Vladimir Sobotka returns from injury in the next 10 days.

NewsSteve Ott was credited with three hits in his St. Louis debut Sunday night.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactHis grittiness should allow him to fit in nicely with the "heavy" play of the Blues. "This is a team that plays hard," Ott said. "They play a well-structured game. My style of play hopefully fits in that mold. I'm just trying to help compete and help push that pace. Hopefully I contribute in some facet." He also recorded two shots and finished with just under 14 minutes of ice time.
Steve Ott is heading to St. Louis with Miller | 02/28/2014 7:13 PM
NewsThe Buffalo Sabres have traded Steve Ott to the St. Louis Blues along with Ryan Miller.
ImpactThe Blues gave up Chris Stewart as part of the same deal and Ott is likely to end up filling a similar role with St. Louis. Ott is a gritty player that will contribute occasionally offensively. For him, the biggest change from a fantasy perspective will be his plus/minus increasing from its horrid minus-26.

NewsSteve Ott didn't join the Buffalo Sabres for their pregame warmups.
Joe Yerdon on Twitter

Ott is also eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer and he hasn't had any talks with the Sabres on a contract extension. To his credit, he said he would like to stay in Buffalo, but he knows the decision may not be solely up to him. "I am professional enough to know the business side of things and what the situation is here as well," said the Sabres captain. "We'll see how it all plays out in the next two weeks."

He will enter Wednesday's action at No. 7 overall in hits, with 147, but his meager point total and minus-16 rating doesn't make him an attractive fantasy option right now.

NewsSteve Ott picked up an assist in Buffalo's 2-1 win against New Jersey on Saturday.
ImpactOtt also had a game-high seven hits. Ott has 11 points and 43 penalty minutes in 42 games this season, which isn't far off the norm for him, but his minus-18 rating is limiting what little fantasy value he might have had in standard leagues.

NewsSteve Ott scored the game-winner for the Buffalo Sabres, who beat the Florida Panthers 3-1 on Friday.
ImpactOtt is doing about what expected overall (18 PIM in 12 GP), but fantasy owners would likely prefer a little bit more of everything. Perhaps his peripherals will pick up if Buffalo is in more heated games (when agitators usually make a bigger impact).

NewsSteve Ott has generated one point in 10 games this campaign and he's anxious to help out more offensively.
Impact"Absolutely, it's concerning after 10 games to only have one assist and that's something for myself I want to help produce and help contribute to this team," said the team's co-captain. NewsBuffalo won't make the playoffs this season, but they can still spoil the Jets' chances on Monday.
ImpactWinnipeg is three point out of eighth place with just three games left. The two teams will play on Monday. "I guess you can say jealousy breeds a little bit of frustration, and if they have a chance at this, we can possibly knock them off and make them feel the same way that we feel," Steve Ott said. "Personally and pride-wise, I would like to do that to another team so they can have this same feeling."

In a follow-up discussion, he commented that he wasn't worried about how the fans will react when the team returns home for Thursday's match versus Montreal. "They're proud, passionate fans. I love it," he said. "I think we're all that way. I'm an emotional player. They're emotional fans. We have the same attitude in this dressing room. I think it's great they show they care. Obviously, just looking for that positive atmosphere in that arena. There's a lot of great factors, things to be proud of getting closer to that playoff spot." NewsSteve Ott registered an assist in his 600th NHL game Thursday.
ImpactIn typical Ott fashion, he also added two penalty minutes, two hits and had a plus-1 rating. Ott has started to fit in with the Sabres, playing much better under coach Ron Rolston than he did under previous bench boss Lindy Ruff. He remains a useful fantasy player that can help owners with points and penalty minutes and is even more useful in leagues that count hits.

ImpactUnder interim coach Ron Rolston, Ott has received nearly a three-minute increase in average ice time per game and he's registered nine points in 13 games. NewsSteve Ott's two-goal outburst Tuesday night was helped by getting top-six minutes alongside Jason Pominville and Cody Hodgson.
Impact"It's a treat playing with those guys," Ott said. "They're both highly, highly skilled. Cody is an up-and-coming first-line superstar centerman with his hands and Pommer is Pommer." Interim coach Ron Rolston moved Thomas Vanek to the second line to start the contest and since Vanek got hurt, you can probably expect to see Ott remain on the top line in Buffalo's next game. He snapped a 13-game goal drought Tuesday night against Montreal.

But at the end of it all, we'd be a lot happier with the two points that we deserve to be walking out with," said Ott, who has seven points and 38 penalty minutes on the year.
