|Assets:||Has a strong lower body, which enables him to keep possession of the puck in the corners and also dish out plenty of solid hits (especially in open ice). Can score goals in bunches. Is effective when crashing the net.|
|Flaws:||Lacks consistency in a big way. Is somewhat injury-prone, due to his kamikaze style of play. Doesn't skate particularly well and struggles with defensive-zone coverage. Some of his hits are quite questionable.|

Sharks GM: Suspension 'unfair' to Torres | 05/17/2013 8:26 PM
NewsRaffi Torres won't appeal his suspension.
ImpactTorres was suspended for the rest of Round 2 for his illegal hit to the head of Kings forward Jarrett Stoll. Don't think that this means Torres agrees with the suspension; in fact the organization disagrees with it. Sharks general manager Doug Wilson released a statement on it, calling it "abundantly clear that this was a clean hockey hit." He also said it was an "inappropriate application" of Rule 48.1, where the head is the principal point of contact and target of the hit. Wilson said this suspension was "grossly unfair" to Torres.
NHL suspends Raffi Torres for rest of Round 2 | 05/16/2013 6:36 PM
NewsRaffi Torres has been suspended for the rest of Round 2 for his illegal hit to the head of Los Angeles Kings forward Jarret Stoll during Game 1 on Tuesday night.
ImpactTorres was assessed a minor penalty for charging on the play. He is a repeat offender and there was an injury on hit to Stoll, which also factored into the length of the suspension. He will be eligible to return if the Sharks can defeat the Kings and advance into the third round of the playoffs.
Brown: You're always aware of Raffi Torres | 05/16/2013 10:43 AM
NewsDustin Brown said that Raffi Torres is someone "you're definitely aware of when he's on the ice."
ImpactTorres will have an in-person hearing in New York on Thursday because of an illegal check to the head of Los Angeles' Jarret Stoll, but Brown wasn't speaking exclusively about Torres' suspension history. "hat's one of those things where as much as he's been suspended, he's had a lot of really clean, hard hits, and you need to be aware of that," Brown said. "He likes to come off that weak side, and I think everyone around the league knows that. It's just bringing awareness to it. On the second goal, he came down on me and I knew he was coming, so I just gave it low-to-high, and it ends up being in their net. So that's the type of plays you need to make and try to use his aggressiveness to our advantage." It's entirely possible that Torres will be suspended for the remainder of the Sharks' second-round series against the Los Angeles Kings.
Raffi Torres will have in-person hearing | 05/15/2013 5:13 PM
NewsRaffi Torres will travel to New York for an in-person hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Thursday.
ImpactHe is being summoned to discuss his illegal check to the head of Los Angeles' Jarret Stoll in Tuesday's Game 1 loss to the Kings. Torres is suspended pending the outcome of the hearing and given his spotty history it appears to be likely that he'll miss some games.
Raffi Torres faces hearing for hit on Stoll | 05/15/2013 2:39 PM
NewsAccording to reports, the NHL has requested to have an in-person hearing with Raffi Torres for his hit on Los Angeles forward Jarret Stoll.
ImpactThat means he could be suspended for five or more games for his high hit late in the second period of Game 1's loss to the Kings. Torres is a repeat offender, who has been suspended three times in his career. He received a 21-game ban in last year's playoffs for an illegal hit on Marian Hossa.

NewsThere have been some rumblings that Raffi Torres will have a hearing for his hit on Los Angeles forward Jarret Stoll.

ImpactHowever, there has been nothing official from the league yet. Torres received a two-minute penalty for charging on the play and he appeared to hit Stoll in the head with his shoulder.
Raffi Torres doesn't think he'll be suspended | 05/15/2013 11:06 AM
NewsRaffi Torres doesn't think he should be suspended for his charging penalty on Jarret Stoll.
CSN Bay Area
ImpactTorres appeared to make contact with Stoll's head, but he sees it differently. "I didn't really think it was even going to be a penalty," Torres said. "They called it charging, I don't think I launched myself. I took a step and a half, and glided into him. Obviously he was leaning over, and I still feel like I got a shoulder to his shoulder, and then it kind of looked because he was leaning over that I came up a little high. I didn't even think it was going to be a penalty, but I hope he's alright." The incident occurred late in the second period and Stoll wasn't available for the final 20 minutes of play.
Sharks 'earned' acquisition of Raffi Torres | 05/13/2013 9:37 AM
NewsIf it wasn't for a late surge by the San Jose Sharks, Sharks GM Doug Wilson might have been a seller at the deadline.
San Jose Mercury News
ImpactThe Sharks certainly started down that road by trading defenseman Douglas Murray on March 25. However, Wilson ended up acquiring Scott Hannan and Raffi Torres at the deadline. "The players earned it," Wilson said. "If we hadn't played well after the initial trade, we wouldn't have done it. But we had played well." Torres is particular has been a great acquisition. He's been physical without spending a lot of time in the sin bin and he scored the game-winning goal in Game 2 of San Jose's first-round series.
Torres unlikely to relinquish top line spot | 05/10/2013 6:19 PM
NewsRaffi Torres is likely to stay with Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau even if Martin Havlat is able to return from injury for the start of Round 2.
CSN Bay Area
Impact"Marty is a more cerebral player, not as physical as Raffi is. Raffi plays with a different type of tenacity than Marty does," coach Todd McLellan said. "But, I thought that was a big change in the series. Raffi playing there gave that line some energy, and there's no doubt we miss Marty and hope he's going to be back for the next round, but the way those three played (Couture, Marleau and Torres), I liked that line." His physical play has opened up chances for his skilled linemates and he scored the overtime winner in Game 2.
Raffi Torres never saw winning goal go in | 05/04/2013 10:43 AM
NewsRaffi Torres didn't even see his shot go into the net Friday night.
San Jose Mercury News
ImpactBut 5:31 into overtime, his goal gave the Sharks an emotional 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks and an unprecedented sweep on the road of the first two games of their Stanley Cup playoff series. "They teach you as a young kid to go to the net with your stick on the ice and your head down, just be ready for anything," Torres said of his 2-on-1 rush with Brent Burns that ended the game. "I just made sure my stick was on the ice, got some good wood on it, and it worked out well."
Torres the hero in Sharks' stunning comeback | 05/04/2013 1:20 AM
NewsRaffi Torres scored the overtime winner in the Sharks' 3-2 comeback victory Friday night.
ImpactTorres played the hero role against his former team after Patrick Marleau tied the game with 56 seconds left in the third period but the game winner never would've happened without Brent Burns. Burns blocked a shot to start a 2-on-1 break with Torres, who received a picture-perfect setup pass from the defenseman-turned-winger. The Sharks now lead the series 2-0 heading back to San Jose.

NewsLook for Raffi Torres to play on the first line with Logan Couture and Patrick Marleau on Friday.

ImpactTorres was bumped up in the depth charts because of Martin Havlat's injury. Torres delivered 87 hits in 39 regular season games, but was able to stay out of the sin bin for the most part. He finished the 2013 campaign with 18 points and 17 penalty minutes.
Raffi Torres helps beat former teammates | 04/16/2013 10:59 AM
NewsRaffi Torres was a force on Monday as he helped defeat his former Coyote teammates.
CSN Bay Area
ImpactTorres had an assist but his physical play really turned the tide against Phoenix. He knocked defenseman Keith Yandle down in the second period with a huge check and set the tone for the rest of the game. "It's a guy I just played with two weeks ago, but I'm at a point where I go out and play hard," Torres said. "It's just a body check. I wanted to get the legs going, and get the momentum."
Raffi Torres shines, but Sharks fall | 04/07/2013 7:28 PM
NewsRaffi Torres had two assists and seven hits in San Jose's 5-4 shootout loss Sunday.
ImpactTorres was great in his Sharks debut, but it wasn't enough. Brent Burns, T.J. Galiardi, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, and Tommy Wingels each scored in the losing effort. Justin Braun registered his fourth and fifth assists of the season.
Torres hopes reputation doesn't hurt him | 04/05/2013 10:31 AM
NewsRaffi Torres is hoping that his reputation or past doesn't create problems with his new teammates.

ImpactThe San Jose Sharks acquired Torres on Wednesday. "I know if it was the other way around, I'd want some of these guys on my team, whether I liked them or not throughout my career," Torres said. "There are some great players in this room, and I'm just here to do my job and help out. I'm not looking to step on any toes or cause any conflict, I just want to do my job, have some fun and win some games." The San Jose Sharks have won six straight games, so Torres might not be able to make his Sharks debut on Friday.

ImpactTorres is another grit player who has been dealt this season as the Sharks could use it with their trading of Ryane Clowe to the Rangers. He had five goals and 12 points in 28 games this season with 13 penalty minutes.
Raffi Torres has just 9 PIM this season | 03/13/2013 11:09 AM
NewsRaffi Torres had a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Los Angeles.
Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette
ImpactTorres said he was going to change the way he played after the Marian Hossa hit and for what it's worth, he has as many points as penalty minutes this season (nine). That might make his less of a valuable commodity in fantasy circles, but it's hard not to like this development from a purely hockey perspective.
Raffi Torres finds twine twice in loss | 02/25/2013 12:08 AM
NewsRaffi Torres recorded two goals in Phoenix's 5-4 loss to the Flames on Sunday night.
ImpactThough he now has four goals and two assists in 10 games this season, he's still not much of an offensive threat. Michael Stone and NIck Johnson had the other goals. Four other Coyotes registered assists.

NewsLeft winger Raffi Torres, who missed 21 games last season and this season after an illegal hit on Chicago's Marian Hossa, scored his first goal of 2013 Thursday night in the Phoenix Coyotes' 6-2 loss to the visiting Blackhawks.
ImpactAlso delivering a goal for the Coyotes was Martin Hanzal, his fifth of the season.
Raffi Torres gets ready for game vs Chicago | 02/07/2013 9:34 AM
NewsRaffi Torres will play against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday for the first time since serving his 21-game suspension.
ImpactTorres was being punished for his illegal hit on Chicago's Marian Hossa, which sent the Blackhawks star to the hospital with a concussion. "Whatever happens out there, happens out there," Torres said. "It's hockey - both teams are out to get the two points. We'll see how it pans out." He's also said in the past that he plans to change the way he plays following the suspension.
Raffi Torres returns to ice for Coyotes | 02/03/2013 8:23 AM
NewsRaffi Torres played his first game of the season Saturday after serving his 21-game suspension.
Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette
ImpactThe suspension dates back to last season after Torres delivered an illegal hit on the Blackhawks Marian Hossa in the playoffs and Torres feels great after the long layoff. "I'm in a good spot now mentally, and physically I feel like I'm in the best shape of my career," Torres said. "So it's just nice to know that you put the time in off the ice, and Tip rewards you with a little more ice time." He likely doesn't have value in all but the deepest of leagues.
Raffi Torres likely back with Coyotes tonight | 02/02/2013 12:11 PM
NewsCoyotes forward Raffi Torres is expected to be back in the Phoenix lineup tonight after serving the remainder of his 21-game suspension for a hit that knocked Marian Hossa out of last year's playoffs.
East Valley Tribune
ImpactTorres was initially given a 25-game ban before it was shortened to 21. He sat out 13 playoff games last spring.

Report: Torres won't get suspension reduced | 01/16/2013 6:58 PM
NewsRaffi Torres will reportedly not be getting his suspension to start the season reduced.
ImpactAccording to the Chicago Tribune, the Coyotes asked if the NHL would remove some of the eight games that Torres has left on his ban for a devastating hit on Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa during the first round of the 2012 playoffs. "The terms of the Torres suspension remain the same, as modified by the Commissioner's decision last summer," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told the Tribune in an email. "Neither the lockout nor the transition rules (in the new collective bargaining agreement) impacted the terms of the Torres suspension." He will be eligible to return on Feb. 2 against Dallas and the Coyotes host Chicago on Feb. 7.
Raffi Torres is committed to changing | 01/16/2013 11:00 AM
NewsRaffi Torres reiterated his commitment to changing his game following his devastating hit to Marian Hossa during the 2012 playoffs.
Arizona Republic/Phoenix Gazette
ImpactTorres received a 25-game suspension that was lowered to 21 contests due to an appeal. He still has eight games remaining on his punishment. "I can't afford to go through something like that again," Torres said. "There are some things that I'm going to have to change if I want to keep playing in this league at a competitive level, so I look forward to it. I know I can bring more to the game than just physical play."
Torres still has 8 games left on suspension | 01/15/2013 7:29 AM
NewsRaffi Torres still has to serve eight games of his 21 game suspension for his hit on Marian Hossa.
ImpactTorres hit Hossa from behind during the playoffs last season and received a 25 game suspension that was reduced to 21 games on appeal. He served 13 games as the Coyotes went deep into the playoffs but still has eight games to go when the season starts on January 19. Hossa is ready to go after suffering a concussion. Torres has little fantasy value and we cannot recommend him in fantasy pools at this time.
