|Assets:||Is smooth and poised under pressure; he moves the puck swiftly and efficiently. Skates very well and is capable of leading the rush thanks to natural offensive instincts. Has a good point shot and can quarterback a power play.|
|Flaws:||Is somewhat consistently prone to injury, in particular his chronic knee woes, and doesn't use his frame a lot to initiate contact. Can struggle against some of the NHL's biggest forwards, as a result. Is a bit undersized.|
|Career Potential:||Elite offensive defenseman, when healthy.|

Andrei Markov looks on the bright side | 05/10/2013 9:55 AM
NewsAndrei Markov was obviously upset after Montreal's playoff exit Thursday night, but he also attempted to look on the bright side.
Impact"It doesn't matter where you place in the regular season," said Markov. "When you don't get through the first round, everybody's disappointed. It's not easy, but at the same time, we have a good young group of guys who will improve next year, so we have a good future." The Canadiens won the Northeast Division this season after finishing with the worst record in the Eastern Conference a year ago. It wasn't a pretty end to the 2013 campaign, as they were quickly eliminated in five games by Ottawa, but Montreal still has plenty to proud of going into next season. Markov should also be pleased that he managed to appear in all 48 games during the regular season and all five matches in the playoffs after struggling with injuries the past three years.
Andrei Markov gets 2 points in season finale | 04/28/2013 9:23 AM
NewsAndrei Markov had a goal and an assist on Saturday.
ImpactMarkov had been limited to just 20 games in his previous two seasons and 65 contests in his previous three campaigns coming into 2013. However, he managed in play in all 48 of Montreal's games this season and was among the league's top defensemen with 10 goals and 30 points.
Markov will likely play Saturday night | 04/27/2013 11:44 AM
NewsIf the game between the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs meant nothing, the Habs would likely have given veteran reargaurd Andrei Markov the night off.
ImpactHowever, that is not the case. The Habs still have a chance to win the Northeast Divsion and finish second in the Eastern Conference. Look for Markov to dress Saturday.
Andrei Markov is Montreal's Masterton nominee | 04/22/2013 10:17 AM
NewsAndrei Markov is the Montreal Canadiens' nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
ImpactMarkov is an obvious choice for the Canadiens' nominee, given that he was limited to just 65 games coming into this season. Markov's career was temporarily derailed due to knee problems, but at the age of 34, he's bounced back with nine goals and 27 points in 45 games this season.
Markov, Subban lead Canadiens Thursday | 04/11/2013 10:44 PM
NewsAndrei Markov had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 victory Thursday night.
ImpactP.K. Subban scored his 11th goal and registered his 23rd assist of the season. Alex Galchenyuk, Brendan Gallagher, and Rene Bourque each scored a goal for Montreal. Max Pacioretty recorded two assists.
Andrei Markov came up big when it mattered | 03/28/2013 10:08 AM
NewsAndrei Markov had a minus-3 rating in Montreal's 6-5 shootout win over Boston on Wednesday night.
ImpactHe and Alexei Emelin were on the ice for all four of the Bruins' even-strength goals. However, Markov came up big on Montreal's power play very late in the third period when he scored the game-tying goal to send the contest into overtime. Markov has been churning out points fairly regularly this season, but the goal was his first since Feb. 25. He has 12 points in his last 15 games.
Andrei Markov gets goal in loss Monday | 02/26/2013 12:19 AM
NewsAndrei Markov scored once in the Canadiens' 2-1 "road" loss Monday night in Kanata.
ImpactThe oft-injured Markov is an integral part of the Montreal offense, especially on with the man advantage. The Russian native now has 11 points in 19 games on the season. Good job if you took a gamble on him during draft day.
Andrei Markov scores 4th goal in 3 games | 01/27/2013 10:46 PM
NewsAndrei Markov's overtime goal broke a 3-3 tie and lifted the Montreal Canadiens to victory Sunday.
ImpactThe goal, incredibly, was Markov's fourth of the campaign, proving how important he is to the Habs when healthy. Brendan Gallagher, Brandon Prust and Ryan White all found the back of the net in the victory while Alex Galchenyuk picked up two assists.
Andrei Markov continues to dominate | 01/24/2013 10:42 PM
NewsAndrei Markov scored a goal and added an assist in the Canadiens' 4-1 victory over Washington Thursday night.
ImpactMarkov has done a good job of reminding hockey fans how great a player he is when healthy after recording three goals and an assist over his past two contests. Tomas Plekanec, Brian Gionta and Josh Gorges all found the back of the net in the victory while Max Pacioretty and Raphael Diaz drew two assists apiece.
Andrei Markov buries a pair | 01/22/2013 11:35 PM
NewsAndrei Markov scored two goals Tuesday as the Canadiens upended Florida by a score of 4-1.
ImpactThe oft-injured Markov is an integral part of the Montreal offence and the team is clearly more dangerous with him in the lineup. Rookie Alex Galchenyuk scored his first goal of the season in the win while Tomas Plekanec tallied his first of the season as well.
Andrei Markov's good health a rare sight | 01/18/2013 8:35 PM
NewsAndrei Markov is healthy and ready to be a vital part of the Canadiens' defense this season.
ImpactMarkov has played in only 20 games the past two years. He's had two knee reconstructions and, most recently, two cracked ribs in the KHL in October. But as the Montreal Gazette's Dave Stubbs says, he's "heathier and fitter than he's been in as long as anyone can remember." And the defenseman thinks the games in Russia were beneficial, too. "The games I played in Russia were huge, especially because I didn't play many the last two years," Markov said. "Playing in Russia gave me confidence in myself. I feel good and I'm ready to go."
Andrei Markov back in Montreal Thursday | 01/07/2013 10:23 PM
NewsAndrei Markov will play with Chekhov of the KHL on Tuesday but will be back in Montreal Thursday.
Renaud Lavoie on Twitter
ImpactAfter spending the vast majority of the past three seasons on the sidelines, Markov is healthy but he's never that far away from another injury. The potential reward could easily outweigh the risk if you plan on taking a gamble on the talented Russian in your fantasy league this season.
Andrei Markov awaits Montreal camp | 01/07/2013 2:05 PM
NewsAndrei Markov is ready to return to North America whenever he gets the call.
ImpactHe was asked how quickly he could return to Montreal from Russia to attend training camp and he said, "I have no idea. We're on the road for three games. Tonight was our first game. We're flying to another city (to Nizhni Novgorod, 400 km to the southeast of Yaroslavl) and nobody's told me when I have to be in Montreal. If they tell me or text me or email me to say I have to be home in 48 hours, then I pack my bags and fly back." Markov dressed on Sunday afternoon for KHL team Vityaz Chekhov in a 2-1 loss to Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. The Canadiens, their fans and fantasy owners would probably prefer Markov to return immediately before the oft-injured defenseman sustains another ailment. He suffered a minor rib injury while playing in the KHL earlier during the lockout. Markov has notched five points and a plus-3 rating in 20 games with Vityaz Chekhov this year.
