"Tretiak also broke into the national championship and the national team when he was very young," former Soviet Hockey League goaltender Alexander Pashkov told the IIHF's website. "Like him, Vasilevskiy has great natural ability and last season he was the strongest goalie in the KHL. You could also see this in the last two World Junior Championships. NewsTampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman said the Lightning won't rush Andrei Vasilevskii.
Impact"We will be conservative and cautious in our approach with him," Yzerman said after the Bolts signed him to an entry-level deal on Tuesday. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves, just let them come in and play. We think we have a really good goaltending prospect here and goalies, more so than any other position, are less predictable. So let's wait and see how he does in training camp and figure out where we go from there. We think he's a great prospect ... he's excelled at every level, and his next step is to come over here." The Bolts can afford to take their time grooming Vasilevskii because of Vezina Trophy finalist Ben Bishop. Tampa Bay has Kristers Gudlevskis and Adam Wilcox in the pipeline as well. Vasilevskii is expected to begin his career in North America in the AHL with Syracuse.
