NewsRookie Teuvo Teravainen left to play in Finland Friday.
The Daily Herald
ImpactThis move was planned as the Hawks' first-round pick in 2012 could use another year of seasoning and he is not needed in Chicago as the team's roster is strong. That said, Teravainen was very impressive in the two pre-season games he played this past week. Remember his name. He could be an impact player in a couple of years.
Hawks will return Teuvo Teravainen to Finland | 09/16/2013 11:17 AM
NewsTeuvo Teravainen has impressed at camp, but coach Joel Quenneville has decided that he'll return to Finland for another season.
Impact"He'll play over there, but it's nice knowing that we have a real nice piece coming," Quenneville said. "With Europeans, when you give them that extra year when they come over here they're stronger and they're ready for the grind. He could turn out to be a real special player and being patient with him is definitely the right thing to do." The Hawks are still a deep team, so the move makes sense. Teravainen will get plenty of playing time overseas and there's no need to rush him.
Teuvo Teravainen aiming to crack Hawks roster | 09/14/2013 9:39 AM
NewsConventional thinking heading into the Chicago Blackhawks' training camp was that, at 19, Teuvo Teravainen was a lock to return to Europe for another season but the club's top pick (18th overall) in the 2012 NHL entry draft is beginning to change minds.
ImpactA center from Finland, Teravainen is flashy with high-end offensive skills and has dazzled decision-makers with the Stanley Cup champions early in camp, to the point where they are beginning to think about including him on this season's roster. "He does a lot of nice things," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "In the middle of the ice you notice him. Playing with him, you probably have to be sharp and ready because the puck is going to be on your stick quicker than you think. You like his awareness and wanting the puck, and his play recognition is high end. The quickness with his hands is special." Teravainen is undergoing a shift from wing to center, where the Hawks hope he will develop into a long-term solution at the position.
