NewsMikhail Grigorenko will probably head to the Rochester Americans this weekend to start the AHL playoffs Saturday in Toronto.
ImpactThe Sabres close out their regular season on Friday night when they host the New York Islanders. "We haven't talked about this, but I guess I'll go to Rochester after the season's over," Grigorenko said Tuesday. "I don't know if they made their decision, but I'm ready to go there. If they want me to go, I'll go." In 24 games with Buffalo, the rookie forward has one goal and four assists.

NewsMikhail Grigorenko will be in the lineup when the Sabres host Winnipeg on Monday night.
ImpactThe 18-year-old hasn't played for Buffalo since March 12 and will most likely play between Jochen Hecht and Nathan Gerbe. "When I first came here when the season started, I was a little nervous and stuff," he said. "I didn't have a lot of confidence. After I went to juniors and came back here again, I felt more comfortable. I felt like it's my team and I belong here." Grigorenko recorded one goal and four assists in 22 games with Buffalo before he was returned to the junior ranks of the QMJHL.

"He will remain on the roster for the time being until we get him in the lineup here or deem him better served by being in the lineup in Rochester," said GM Darcy Regier. Grigorenko recorded one goal and four assists in 22 games with Buffalo before he was returned to the junior ranks of the QMJHL.
Sabres recall Mikhail Grigorenko from QMJHL | 04/16/2013 12:37 PM
NewsBuffalo Sabres recall Mikhail Grigorenko from the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL.
ImpactThe Ramparts were eliminated from the playoffs Friday, which meant it was only a matter of time before Grigorenko returned to the Sabres or their AHL affiliate in Rochester. As demonstrated earlier in the season, Grigorenko has tons of fantasy potential but is likely to play limited minutes over the final two weeks as he adjusts to the NHL again. He's worth consideration in only certain formats.
Mikhail Grigorenko could play in AHL | 04/14/2013 11:05 AM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko is now free to come back to the NHL or make his debut in the AHL with the Rochester Americans.
ImpactThe Quebec Remparts were eliminated from their QMJHL playoff series Friday night which means Grigorenko will at least see some time in the AHL this season. "He'll come back, and we'll make a decision whether we're going to play him here or we'll play him in Rochester," said GM Regier. "We'll wait for him to finish up, up there with meetings with [Quebec coach] Patrick Roy and whatever they want to do, and then we'll bring him back here." Grigorenko has plenty of offensive upside, but was only averaging 9:45 minutes per games with Buffalo earlier in the year.

Sabres scratch Mikhail Grigorenko | 02/11/2013 9:40 AM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko was a healthy scratch on Sunday.

Mikhail Grigorenko registers first NHL assist | 02/01/2013 10:11 AM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko notched his first NHL assist Thursday night one game after scoring his first NHL goal.
ImpactWhile Grigorenko isn't off to the same start as fellow rookies Vladimir Tarasenko and Cory Conacher, he remains capable of a very impressive first NHL season. The immensely talented Russian forward has been skating on the Sabres' second and third lines and is worth adding on a speculative basis in deeper leagues.

NewsMikhail Grigorenko scored his first career NHL goal, but the Sabres lost to Toronto by a score of 4-3.
ImpactGrigorenko's goal tied the score at 3-3 in the third period and should be the first of many for the fine young forward. Jason Pominville and Andrej Sekera also found the back of the net for Buffalo in the losing effort.
Darcy Regier says Grigorenko will play Tues. | 01/29/2013 11:30 AM
NewsGM Darcy Regier said on Tuesday that first round pick Mikhail Grigorenko will play tonight.
Chris Johnston on Twitter
ImpactThis is significant as it will be the sixth game of the season for Grigorenko and that will burn up one season of free agency eligibility. The Sabres have been impressed by the lanky pivot and have shown confidence in him by keeping him around. He is worth picking up in keeper leagues but we would shy away in one-year leagues this season.
Grigorenko will accept whatever Sabres decide | 01/29/2013 7:35 AM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko said he is willing to accept any decision the Sabres make regarding where he will play for the remainder of the season.
Impact"They could tell me today, they could tell me tomorrow, they could keep me for one week to practice," Grigorenko said. "They could do a lot of things and I'm ready for anything. Anything they say, I'll accept." Coach Lindy Ruff said the team might entertain the thought of making the rookie center a healthy scratch on Tuesday to prolong the process since he has already made five appearances this year. Once he plays in his sixth game the first season of his entry-level deal comes into play.
Decision should come soon for M. Grigorenko | 01/28/2013 11:15 AM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko will soon find out if he's sticking with Buffalo or heading back the QMJHL after playing in his fifth game with the Sabres on Sunday.
Impact"I know that the rule says if I'm going to play next game I'm staying with the team," Grigorenko said. "I hope so. Probably soon I will know what they are going to do with me. I hope I'll stay here." He registered two shots and finished with a season-high 17:10 of ice time during Buffalo's 3-2 loss to Washington in what may have been his last game of the 2013 NHL campaign. Buffalo GM Darcy Regier said there's no deadline on the decision, so he could conceivably become a healthy scratch for Tuesday's contest to give the club more time to make a decision.
Mikhail Grigorenko expected in lineup | 01/27/2013 2:33 PM
NewsIt's expected that Mikhail Grigorenko will play in the final game of his NHL stint on Sunday because Thomas Vanek (back/ribs) won't be in action.
John Vogl on Twitter
ImpactGrigorenko has failed to score a single point in his four contests at the NHL level, managing a -1 rating and just three shots on goal. This will likely be his last day with the big club this season, as one more would burn a year from his entry-level contract and he hasn't exactly been lighting up the NHL.
Mikhail Grigorenko may not play Sunday | 01/27/2013 12:35 PM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko may not play in Sunday afternoon's contest.
ImpactThe Sabres will have to decide soon if the 18-year-old rookie will stay in the NHL or return to QMJHL. Grigorenko has played four games and one more will force Buffalo to make a decision. "I like where this kid is going," coach Ruff said. "I like where his game has been. Even his early shifts [Friday] I thought were good shifts. They had the makings of doing something good."
Mikhail Grigorenko benched for much of loss | 01/26/2013 10:00 AM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko found himself glued to the bench for much of the Sabres' 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes on Friday.
The Buffalo News
ImpactThe 18-year-old was moved to the fourth line because coach Lindy Ruff wanted a tougher unit (Jochen Hecht, Steve Ott and Patrick Kaleta) to face Eric Staal's line. The result was 6:48 of ice time, with two shifts coming in the second period and none in the third. It's the reality for a rookie, but it doesn't bode well for his status in the NHL this season.
Mikhail Grigorenko decision to come soon | 01/24/2013 10:33 AM
NewsThe Buffalo Sabres say they are still deciding what to do with Mikhail Grigorenko this season.
ImpactAssuming he plays both games of the team's back-to-back set with Carolina then he would have used up four games of his five-game tryout. The Sabres will have to decide soon if Grigorenko will stay in the NHL or return to QMJHL. "We'll really evaluate everything," coach Lindy Ruff said. "What's the best for him? What's the best to push him to the next level? Can he help us win? Can he help us win in the role he's at? All those things will go into consideration. We want to do what's the best for us to win hockey games." Grigorenko doesn't have a point after two games and he has two shots, but he stated that he has "adjusted to the speed" of the league and now he is hoping to bring his "skill to this lineup." He skated with Steve Ott and possible returnee Nathan Gerbe on the team's third line at practice on Wednesday.
Mikhail Grigorenko has impressed coach Ruff | 01/16/2013 11:44 AM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko has performed well at Buffalo's training camp, but coach Lindy Ruff isn't ready to declare his NHL roster spot is guaranteed going into the season.
Impact"It's too early to say," said the Sabres bench boss. "He had a good scrimmage last night. He had a good practice. You like his hands. So far, his compete inside practice drills is good. His compete last night was good. So there's a lot of things to like about what he's done so far in these two days." According to onlookers, there's a good chance that Griogorenko will start the 2013 campaign with the Sabres.
M. Grigorenko starts between Ott and Leino | 01/14/2013 11:31 AM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko skated between veterans Steve Ott and Ville Leino on Sunday in Buffalo's first official practice.
Impact"I didn't feel a big difference between me and some other guys," said the Sabres prospect. "I need to just work hard and do everything I can. The coaches will decide if I'm good enough right now." It's likely that he will receive a five-game tryout with the Sabres before the team decides to keep him for the remainder of the year or send him back to his junior team in Quebec.
Ruff 'intrigued' to see Mikhail Grigorenko | 01/10/2013 9:35 AM
NewsBuffalo coach Lindy Ruff is looking forward to seeing what prospect Mikhail Grigorenko can do at training camp.
Impact"I think everyone is intrigued," Ruff said. "He's had an elite year at junior. He's got very good hands, is a very good playmaker. Now you take that to a level where you're going to play against even stronger competition, bigger bodies, guys that are heavier on the puck, that compete at a stronger level." According to a report from TSN, junior players will be given just a five-game window to play before a decision is made to keep them up with the team this year due to the shortened season. Ruff said he might try out Grigorenko between Thomas Vanek and Jason Pominville for a couple of practices but not likely in games because that spot will likely go to Cody Hodgson.
Mikhail Grigorenko will attend Buffalo's camp | 01/07/2013 7:20 PM
NewsMikhail Grigorenko will attend Buffalo's training camp, according to Quebec Remparts coach and general manager Patrick Roy.
Impact"I spoke to Darcy Regier [Sunday] morning, and he was very clear," Roy told French-language sports network RDS. "He wants to bring him to Buffalo for the entirety of training camp. Afterward, they will see if [Grigorenko] can make the team or not. But I'm still hoping he will back with the Remparts to finish the season. For us, his loss would obviously be devastating, because we count on him a lot." Grigorenko has been outstanding in the QMJHL this season with 29 goals and 50 points in 30 games. He stands a good chance to earn at least a nine-game tryout with the Sabres, but they'll decide on his fate after seeing him at camp.
Mikhail Grigorenko could get an NHL look | 01/07/2013 12:47 PM
NewsIt's still possible that Mikhail Grigorenko could get a nine-game tryout with the Buffalo Sabres.
ImpactA report last month from a French newspaper in Quebec stated that the Sabres agreed to keep Grigorenko in the QMJHL for the balance of the season regardless of what transpired with regard to the lockout. However, that decision could be revisited given how well he played in Russia at the World Junior Championship and how dominant he has been in the junior ranks this season. Buffalo is fairly thin at center and a big-bodied scorer like Grigorenko, who is already fresh and ready to play, could be a solid addition.
