Julien praises Dougie Hamilton's progress | 05/18/2013 6:23 PM
NewsBruins coach Claude Julien is very pleased with how Dougie Hamilton has handled himself in the playoffs.
CSN New England
ImpactAt the age of 19, Hamilton has participated in four postseason contests. "[The] playoffs is another step, and he's taking that step extremely well, to me," Julien said. "[In Game 1] he was making good decisions, playing with Chara, sometimes against their top line. To be able to put him out there against the other team's top line shows that we do have confidence in him." Hamilton had an assist and a plus-two rating in 20:45 minutes of playing time in Game 1 of the Bruins' second-round series against the Rangers.
Dougie Hamilton earns first playoff point | 05/17/2013 8:40 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton got his first career playoff point in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win against the Rangers.
ImpactHe earned an assist on Torey Krug's power-play goal in the third period to tie the game at 2-2. Hamilton played his best game of the postseason after skating in three contests versus Toronto in the opening round. He also had five shots during his 20:45 of ice time. Hamilton appears to be growing much more comfortable out there.
Bruins dress Dougie Hamilton in Game 6 | 05/13/2013 9:56 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton made his second appearance of the postseason in Sunday's loss to Toronto.
ImpactHe registered five hits while getting 10:49 of ice time. Fellow playoff newcomer Matt Bartkowski, who played in Game 5, was made a healthy scratch in Game 6 which allowed Hamilton to suit up.

ImpactPrevious reports already indicated that this was very likely, but now it's been confirmed. If you haven't already, adjust your lines accordingly.
Dougie Hamilton likely to play Saturday | 05/04/2013 10:28 AM
NewsIt looks as if Boston coach Claude Julien will insert Dougie Hamilton into the Bruin lineup for Saturday night's Game 2 against Toronto.
ImpactWith Andrew Ference's suspension it was either Hamilton or Aaron Johnson who would draw back in. It appears based on Friday's practice, Hamilton will get the opportunity to play. Adjust your lineup accordingly.

NewsIt looks like Dougie Hamilton will be a healthy scratch for Game 1 Wednesday.

ImpactHamilton did not partake in line rushes so it looks like the rookie will spend the night in the press box. Hamilton had five goals and 16 points in 42 games this season. He sat out the last three games of the season and five of the last seven.
D. Hamilton is having a great rookie season | 04/22/2013 8:58 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton scored his fifth goal of the season on Sunday.
CSN New England
ImpactHamilton has 16 points in 41 games this season. For a rookie blueliner, those are great numbers and it wouldn't be surprising if he has some fantasy value in standard leagues in 2013-14.
Dougie Hamilton will be scratched Saturday | 04/13/2013 1:38 PM
NewsDougie Hamilton won't play Saturday at Carolina, but coach Claude Julien said he'll suit up Monday.
ImpactIt will mark a second straight time that he has sat as a healthy scratch. "Two games in a row almost allows him five days to get some good rest - close to a week," Julien said. "I think that will make a big difference. We value him. He's a good player. He'll be back in our lineup next game. Rest is the only reason he's been sitting out. It's certainly not because of his play."
Hamilton's return Saturday not guaranteed | 04/13/2013 9:15 AM
NewsIt is not clear if Dougie Hamilton, a healthy scratch against the Islanders Thursday, will be in the Boston lineup Saturday against the Hurricanes.
ImpactWhen asked if Hamilton would dress, Bruin coach Claude Julien replied "We'll see". If you have a suitable repalcement for the rookie rearguard we recommend you activate him for Saturday's contest just in case.
Dougie Hamilton gets a night off on Thursday | 04/12/2013 8:29 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton was a healthy scratch Thursday as the Boston Bruins wanted to give him a night off.
ImpactHamilton has played in 39 NHL games this season after playing 32 games with his junior club before the lockout ended. Hamilton also skated in the Canada-Russia Super Series in August, so it makes sense Boston would want to give him a night to rest. Hamilton has four goals and 15 points in his rookie season.
Dougie Hamilton extends point streak to four | 03/06/2013 9:51 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton picked up a point for a fourth consecutive game Tuesday night when he scored on a Boston power play late in the first period.
ImpactHe has two goals and two assists during his current four-game point streak. Hamilton also finished the contest with a minus-2 rating though. He is still learning the defensive side of the game, which was evidenced by Eric Fehr's game-winning tally in overtime when he split between Hamilton and defense partner Dennis Seidenberg to give Washington a 4-3 victory.
Hamilton good but improvement required | 02/23/2013 9:52 AM
NewsAlthough Dougie Hamilton has played reasonably well of late, the Boston coaching staff still believes he can improve.
ImpactThe rookie defenseman was victimized by fellow first-year player Cory Conacher in Thursday night's win over Tampa which highlighted some of Hamilton's deficiencies. "You remember me saying there are going to be periods when there'll be an adjustment for him," Bruin GM Peter Chiarelli said. "This is one right now. I think it's just focus and concentration for a young player. He's shown he has the skill and ability to do it. It's just the focus game after game for a first-time professional player. It's part of learning. He's lost his man a couple of times, he's tailed off a couple of times with the defensive zone coverage, and then there's been a couple of times with the gap. That's stuff he's going to face. He'll adjust and get better at it. We totally expected this. He's still playing very well." . . . Despite the growing pains Hamilton is a fantasy stud and worthy of roster spot this season and for seasons to come.
Dougie Hamilton limited to just 10 minutes | 02/22/2013 9:56 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton had two assists despite playing a career-low 10 minutes Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
ImpactHamilton was on the ice for both of the Lightning goals, but still managed his second multi-point game in the last three contests. Hamilton, who normally averages 17 minutes per game, tends to be very aggressive and tries use his strong skating ability to make up for mistakes, so he's going to have nights where coach Claude Julien limits his ice time against high-powered opponents. The best sign Thursday was that he delivered two points in limited minutes and might be starting to deliver on some of his serious offensive potential.
Dougie Hamilton scores first NHL goal in loss | 02/15/2013 10:57 PM
NewsDougie Hamilton had a goal and an assist but the Bruins fell to the Sabres on Friday night 4-2.
ImpactIt was the blueliner's first goal of his career, and as he gets more comfortable in the NHL, these are the types of nights that should be plentiful for him in his career. Just 19, the blueliner has six points on the season while averaging nearly 19 minutes of ice time. Rich Peverley potted the other goal.
Dougie Hamilton learning patience in D zone | 02/15/2013 9:53 AM
NewsBruins coach Claude Julien is trying to get Dougie Hamilton to be more patient in the defensive zone.
ImpactThe 19-year-old is such a good skater that he's often very aggressive, while Julien wants the defensemen to be more responsible and contained. "One of the mottos I use all the time with our system is that they'll come to you," Julien said. "You don't have to run all over the place. That's where he's got himself in trouble. He's a smart individual. He'll catch on pretty quickly."
Dougie Hamilton not producing of late | 02/13/2013 10:54 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton hasn't posted a point in his last six games and he owns a minus-3 rating over that span.
Impact"I think Doug is going through what a first-year player would go through," coach Claude Julien said before Tuesday's game. "He was outstanding at the beginning and he's certainly not poor now. But to expect this guy to be outstanding the whole season is not being realistic. I know he set the bar pretty high with his early play, but he's certainly not a poor player for us. The points may not be coming as much as they did at the beginning, but he's still a pretty poised player." Hamilton is still a great keeper, but his fantasy value in redraft leagues is starting to take a hit.
Bruins will hang onto Dougie Hamilton | 01/28/2013 7:01 PM
NewsBoston GM Peter Chiarelli has called a 6:30 p.m. press conference, where it is expected that he will announce that rookie defender Dougie Hamilton will stay with the team for the entire season.
ImpactHamilton will play his fifth game Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes and he's projected to play again on Tuesday versus New Jersey, which would result in the first year of his entry-level contract entering into play. Boston coach Claude Julien has praised Hamilton several times already, so the move isn't surprising. He is averaging over 18 minutes of ice time and has three points, with 11 shots, in four games.
Dougie Hamilton drawing rave reviews | 01/26/2013 9:53 AM
NewsDon't expect the Bruins to be returning Dougie Hamilton to the OHL after the five-game evaluation period is over.
ImpactHe's just 19 and has four games under his belt, but the defenseman already has three assists (two against the Islanders) and is averaging 18:04 of ice time. "He looks like he's ready, he's ready to play," said general manager Peter Chiarelli. "You could say he's arguably been one of our top two defensemen the last couple of games. Very good player. "(He has) tremendous poise and vision for a big guy who can move like he can. He takes pride in defending, which is very consistent with what we stand for. And he'll lead the rush, or, when he sees an opening, he'll jump in the rush."
Dougie Hamilton gets first NHL point | 01/24/2013 10:12 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton's first career NHL point helped Boston finally score a goal on the power play.
ImpactBrad Marchand tipped Hamilton's point shot by Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to give the Bruins their first man advantage in three games this season. The team entered the contest without a goal on nine opportunities. Now, they are 1-for-14. Hamilton drew plenty of praise from Boston coach Claude Julien after the game. "He was so poised and confident," said the Bruins bench boss. "If anybody thinks he can't play in this league, they should take some time to watch this game. I really, really liked his game. Not just defensively, but offensively, he made a great play on the power-play goal." During Wednesday's game, he was paired with Andrew Ference.
Julien ca D. Hamilton a player I'm rely | 01/22/2013 9:31 AM
NewsBoston's brass will probably evaluate rookie Dougie Hamilton after he plays five games to see if he will head back to junior hockey, but coach Claude Julien feels comfortable playing the 19-year-old blueliner.
Impact"In my mind . . . right now, he's a player," said Julien. "To me, he's on our team . . . he's a player I'm relying on." Hamilton logged 23:27 of ice time, which was second only to captain Zdeno Chara on the team, in Monday's 2-1 shootout victory over the Winnipeg Jets. He played with Chara on Monday because his defense partner from the opener, Dennis Seidenberg, missed the contest with a lower-body injury. Hamilton has five shots and six hits in his first two pro appearances, but he hasn't done anything statistically of note yet. Still, he has plenty of value in keeper leagues.
Dougie Hamilton struggles in scrimmage | 01/16/2013 11:25 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton displayed some nerves during Boston's scrimmage against AHL Providence on Tuesday.
Impact"I thought Dougie was OK," coach Claude Julien said after the contest. "He looked a little nervous. He's more poised with the puck than he was tonight, and we kind of expected that. It's his first game and guys put a lot of pressure on themselves. The biggest thing for us will be to calm him down. What I saw tonight was not what I saw in practices this week and it's not what I saw in his games in junior." Hamilton showed some nerves and poor puck management with Team Canada as well during the world junior tournament in Russia, but once he calms himself down and gets used to the high level of play he should become a talented and versatile defenseman. Unfortunately, it's starting to look like he may not make much of a fantasy impact this year if he sticks with the team.
Dougie Hamilton opens camp with Seidenberg | 01/14/2013 10:57 AM
NewsDougie Hamilton skated alongside Dennis Seidenberg for most of Sunday's one-hour workout.
ImpactSeidenberg should be able to show him the ropes and get him accustomed to playing in the NHL. The veteran defenseman said, "I'm going to help him out as much as I can." Hamilton is expected to start the season with the Boston Bruins
Dougie Hamilton likely to get a shot at NHL | 01/06/2013 3:46 PM
NewsTSN's Bob McKenzie singled out Dougie Hamilton as a prospect likely to get some NHL reps.
ImpactMeanwhile, he also mentioned players who could get at least a look in training camp. Among those players: Jonathan Huberdeau, Ryan Strome, Mikhail Grigorenko, Mark Scheifele and Ryan Murphy. Hamilton holds the distinction of being connected to the Phil Kessel trade, so his progress should be fun to watch.
