A comparison has been made that he is similar to the Canucks Zack Kassian and GM Jay Feaster actually sent Ferland a compilation of Kassian's good reviews with the Canucks. "I'm sure before the game starts, I'll be nervous," Ferland said. "You usually get nervous before these kind of games. I think I'll have a few butterflies.. Obviously, there's only a few more games to show the coaching staff why you should be here. I just want to go into (Monday) with confidence." Michael Ferland in Flames future plans | 09/08/2013 6:23 AM
NewsFormer fifth round pick Michael Ferland looks to be in the Flame future plans.
ImpactWhile it's extremely doubtful that Ferland is on the Flames radar this season, or even next year, the truculent forward could be their power forward of the future. They are comparing him to Zack Kassian of the Canucks and GM Jay Feaster went so far as to send Ferland a compilation of Kassian's good reviews with Vancouver, according to the Calgary Sun. Ferland had his troubles last season as he struggled in the AHL and ECHL before the Flames sent him back to the WHL as an overaged junior but was dealt from Brandon to Saskatoon and saw plenty of action in the Memorial Cup which the Blades hosted. He is still a few years away from any fantasy contribution at best.
Michael Ferland might be traded in WHL | 01/03/2013 9:55 AM
NewsMichael Ferland could move again soon after recently rejoining the WHL Brandon Wheat Kings.
ImpactFerland chose to return to the junior league after struggling in the AHL and ECHL. However, in the WHL, teams are only allowed to dress a maximum of three 20-year-old players per contest. With Ferland back, the Wheat Kings have one too many 20-year-old players, so they will probably end up making a trade. "I talked to (Wheat Kings' general manager) Kelly (McCrimmon) about the trade deadline here," Ferland said. "I'm not going to be surprised if I get moved here and if I do, it'll be a new chapter in my career and I'll move forward."
