NewsBen Scrivens allowed five goals on 37 shots in a 5-1 defeat in Washington Tuesday night.

ImpactThe Maple Leafs have lost the last five times Scrivens has appeared in a game, although he replaced James Reimer in the third period of one of those games. Scrivens hasn't started since being pulled from a March 16 game in which he allowed four goals in two periods. Reimer is still considered the starter, but he hasn't been great since returning from injury. We'll see if Scrivens can halt the slide and gain some currency in the Leafs' goaltending battle.
Ben Scrivens and Leafs blow lead vs. Pens | 03/14/2013 11:08 PM
NewsBen Scrivens allowed two goals on 27 shots Thursday as the Maple Leafs were beaten at home by a score of 3-1 to Pittsburgh.
ImpactToronto was very close to taking home a 1-0 result, but Pittsburgh woke up in the second half of the final period and stole a victory. Although Scrivens has done an admirable job when given the opportunity this year, James Reimer is likely to see the bulk of the playing time for this team.

NewsBen Scrivens allowed three goals on 24 shots in the Maple Leafs 4-2 loss to Boston Thursday night.
ImpactIn a battle of backup goaltenders Scrivens was outdueled by Boston's Anton Khudobin, but the assignment was an especially difficult one for the Toronto netminder. Despite the strong performances he has enjoyed, James Reimer remains the number one option in goal for the Leafs.

NewsBen Scrivens blocked 35 shots in Toronto's 5-2 loss to Montreal on Wednesday night.
ImpactScrivens was pretty much on his own all night, and he just wasn't able to get the job done. The 26-year-old has a 2.41 goals-against average and .923 save percentage on the season. This should open the door for James Reimer to get a look in the Maple Leafs next game on Thursday.

NewsBen Scrivens turned away 23 of 25 Philadelphia shots in a 4-2 win over the Flyers Monday.
ImpactScrivens has been fantastic since James Reimer (knee) went down earlier in the month. Once Reimer is healthy again, the two should go back to battling for the number one gig in the Toronto net, although Scrivens should have the upper hand in that contest. If he's still available in your free agent pool, pick him up immediately.

NewsBen Scrivens didn't have the right stuff in Toronto's 4-2 loss to Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

ImpactScrivens has been fantastic since James Reimer (knee) went down, although tonight will be the first time he has started on back-to-back nights. This is just further evidence that Scrivens will be the man going forward with Reimer sidelined and should be added in almost all formats.

NewsBen Scrivens allowed three goals on 33 shots in Toronto's 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes Thursday night.
ImpactScrivens has been outplayed by James Reimer this year, but this result certainly shouldn't be pinned on him as he's the only reason Carolina didn't blow the contest wide open in the third period. Expect him to continue garnering playing time while Reimer rehabs his knee injury.
Leafs will hand the ball to Ben Scrivens | 02/14/2013 12:15 PM
NewsBen Scrivens is projected to get the majority of Toronto's starts with James Reimer on the shelf for at least a week with a knee injury.
ImpactHe has played very well in spurts so far this season and coach Randy Carlyle has faith in handing Scrivens the goaltender reigns. "Is (Scrivens) a backup, or is (he) a 1B?" asked Carlyle. "(Reimer and Scrivens are) both young. And at times, I can guarantee you people have had the assessment, 'Is it going to be Scrivens? Or is it going to be Reimer?' We weren't afraid to put (Scrivens) in the net (in the season opener)." He wouldn't name a starter for Thursday's game, but it would surprising if it wasn't Scrivens. The Leafs recalled netminder Jussi Rynnas from the minors on Wednesday.

Leafs goalie coach a valuable resource | 01/26/2013 12:13 PM
NewsLeafs goalie coach Rick St. Croix is proving to be a valuable resource for the team's goalies.
ImpactJames Reimer and Ben Scrivens are able to draw from his experiences as a player, a career that saw him play with the Flyers and Leafs. That's important for two inexperienced netminders. "It's always great to have a sounding board," Scrivens said. "What makes Rick a little bit unique for us is he played in this market. He knows about the outside noise. It's just a great way of talking to someone who's been through it before. He's had bad games, he's had great games before, and we're trying to soak up as much thought from him and his learning experiences, and hopefully we can learn from him without having to learn it ourselves the hard way."
Ben Scrivens drilled at home by Islanders | 01/24/2013 11:10 PM
NewsBen Scrivens experienced a rough night against the Islanders by allowing five goals on 25 shots in a 7-4 loss.
ImpactAny momentum Scrivens might have generated by starting the season's first two games now seems lost, especially when you consider that James Reimer looked sharp in defeating the Penguins on Wednesday. Reimer entered tonight's contest in place of Scrivens in the third period and stopped seven of eight shots.

NewsBen Scrivens stopped 18 of 20 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres Monday night.
ImpactScrivens has been strong in the AHL this season but he's still a long way away from being regarded as the Leafs' clear number one over James Reimer. Either way, both goalies should be started with a lot of prudence, preferably at home against low-scoring teams.

ImpactScrivens kicked out 21 of 22 shots in a 2-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday. He's still a long way away from being regarded as the Leafs' clear number one over James Reimer, but Reimer owners should seriously consider picking up Scrivens to hedge their bets.

NewsBen Scrivens saved 21 of 22 shots in a 2-1 victory Saturday night.

Ben Scrivens could start Saturday for Leafs | 01/15/2013 1:07 PM
NewsDon't be surprised if Ben Scrivens gets the nod for Toronto on opening night against Montreal.
ImpactJames Reimer has shown some rustiness at Leafs' training camp, even though he could pull it together when the team splits for scrimmages. Still, Scrivens has remained active during the lockout in the AHL, with the Marlies, where he has been among the league's top keepers. He has picked up his game after a slow start with six wins in his past seven starts, along with a shutout, a 1.71 goals-against average and a .935 save percentage. Scrivens' confidence and his game shape are high right now and that could give him an advantage over Reimer to start the season, but both are expected to see their fair share of starts if Toronto cannot find an upgrade in the trade market.
