ImpactForwards Triston Grant, Landon Ferraro, Louis-Marc Aubry and Luke Glendening, defensemen Nathan Paetsch and Alexey Marchenko, as well as goaltender Jared Coreau were also sent down to AHL Grand Rapids.

NewsThe Detroit Red Wings' rookies edged the Dallas Stars' group 4-2 on Friday in part because of Riley Sheahan's efforts.
ImpactShehan scored a goal, fired four shots on net and collected two penalty minutes in the game. Detroit's other goal scorers were Martin Frk, Teemu Pulkkinen and Andreas Athanasiou.

NewsRiley Sheahan has made some significant strides forward in his first full season with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins.

Impact"He's put himself in a position, in the future, to become a Red Wing," Griffins coach Jeff Blashill said. "It's impossible to say (when), but it has to do with opportunity and how he continues to improve." Sheahan has been maturing since his drunk driving incident in October. He ended up with 16 goals and 36 points in 72 AHL games. He'll work on his strength and skating over the summer and likely start the 2013-14 campaign in the minors.

ImpactSheahan was recalled when it was thought that Henrik Zetterberg would not be able to play on the weekend due to his groin trouble. Zetterberg did play but coach Mike Babcock still put Sheahan in the lineup where he saw fourth line minutes alongside Cory Emmerton and Patrick Eaves. "He was good, and he's going to be a good player for us," coach Mike Babcock said. "But he's got to get quicker and play with more patience." He will continue to play for Grand Rapids where he had 16 goals and 35 points in 67 games before his recall.

ImpactSheahan was recalled when the Red Wings were unsure as to the availability of Henrik Zetterberg due to his groin. Sheahan played 6:47 minutes and had a shot on goal while centering Patrick Eaves and Cory Emmerton. His game has grown in the minors and he will have a good shot to crack the Detroit lineup in training camp next season.

ImpactSheahan was the Wings' first round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and has one NHL game to his credit. He is being recalled as insurance in the event Henrik Zetterberg (groin) is unable to suit up for Sunday's matinee against the Blues. The center has recorded 35 points in 67 AHL contests this season.

NewsDetroit prospect Riley Sheahan was apologetic in his first public comments since pleading guilty to the "superdrunk" offense of operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of .17 or more.
Impact"It was a terrible decision. I'm paying the consequences for it," he said. "There's so much space in my life now to recover from it and make better decisions, and teach people that they don't want to go through something like that." Sheahan said he felt terrible about embarrassing his parents and the Red Wings organization. He is hoping to put that ugliness behind him and carry on with his professional career in Grand Rapids, where he has 12 points in 28 games this season.
