ImpactPlayers are required to attend three times, but after that they can choose not to come and Niederreiter is exercising that option. Niederreiter's relationship appears to be shaky with the Islanders right now. He wasn't invited to the team's training camp and he wasn't part of the Bridgeport contingent that was recalled when the big club made the playoffs to practice as the team's Black Aces squad. Niederreiter's camp was reportedly seeking a trade back in January, but he's still with the Islanders' organization.

Team USA will compete against Finland in the Bronze Medal Game while Sweden and Switzerland will battle for the Gold Medal.
Nino Niederreiter admits he's frustrated | 01/29/2013 3:35 PM
NewsNino Niederreiter said not getting invited to New York Islanders training camp was "frustrating."
ImpactNiederreiter's camp has reportedly requested a trade, but general manager Garth Snow isn't budging. For his part, Niederreiter said he's only focused on his play. "I'm trying to focus on what I can control and what I can control is on the ice. The rest I leave for my agent. Whatever he think is best for me he should just do that," Niederreiter told ProHockeyTalk at the AHL All-Star game.

ImpactNiederreiter didn't get an invite to training camp despite tearing up the AHL this season at a point-per-game pace. At the time, GM Garth Snow said the team had a plan for the former No. 5 overall pick and that Niederreiter was on track with that plan. Apparently, he's no longer pleased with how the organization views it. Niederreiter struggled last season, scoring one goal and posting a minus-29 rating in 55 games with the Islanders, but could make an impact if given a fresh start elsewhere.

Isles choose to keep Nino Niederreiter in AHL | 01/17/2013 11:52 AM
NewsNino Niederreiter didn't get an invite to training camp from the Islanders, but he impressed coach Jack Capuano during a scrimmage on Wednesday.
New York Newsday
ImpactCapuano said that GM Garth Snow has a plan for Niederreiter and that the 20-year-old forward is on the right track. The Islanders prospect has been great in the AHL this campaign, with 19 goals and 36 points in 37 games to place him sixth in league scoring. However, that wasn't enough to get him a look at the big club's week-long camp. "Of course I was disappointed, but I've learned that there are things you cannot control and you can't worry about those," Niederreiter said after scoring for the Sound Tigers in the scrimmage versus the Isles. "I promised myself I wouldn't get frustrated about those things this year. All I can control is what I do on the ice." He could be the first player called up if there's an injury.
