Flyers excited by Petr Straka's potential | 09/07/2013 8:27 PM
NewsThe Flyers are excited to have 21-year-old Petr Straka join the organization.
ImpactA 2010 second-round pick of the Blue Jackets, Straka never ended up signing with the club after some injuries his first year after being selected and a down season in 2011-12, all played in the QMJHL. He bounced back in a big way last season with 41 goals and 41 assists with his new QMJHL team, Baie-Comeau. "We liked him from his draft year and so we had a bit of a resume on him to begin with," said Chris Pryor, Flyers director of scouting. "He's got some assets that are hard to find. He's got some real good speed, he can shoot the puck and his size is good. He's going to get a chance. He's got a nose for the net. He's got a lot of potential." Straka will probably need at least a year of AHL seasoning.

ImpactStraka's deal will begin with the 2013-14 campaign. He was originally drafted in 2010 by the Columbus Blue Jackets, but the club passed on him. However, Straka attracted plenty of attention after scoring 41 goals and 82 points in 55 QMJHL games this season.
