NewsJoey Hishon was assigned to AHL Lake Erie on Monday along with eight other players.
ImpactHishon and David Van Der Gulik were both considered to be injured at camp, but they were sent down and will be checked out further by the minor-league team's medical staff. Forwards Trevor Cheek and Gabriel Desjardins, defensemen Daniel Maggio, Lee Moffie and Mikael Tam, and goaltenders Kent Patterson and Kieran Millan will join them on the Monsters. Colorado also returned Joseph Blandisi (Ottawa), Michael Clarke (Peterborough) and Dillon Donnelly (Quebec) to their respective junior clubs.

NewsJoey Hishon couldn't skate with the Avalanche on Sunday due to a groin injury.
ImpactHishon is regarded as day-to-day and obviously we still have a lot time to go before the start of the regular season. He's missed the vast majority of the last two seasons due to concussions.

ImpactIt looks like Hishon will be available for Colorado's training camp. Hishon missed almost two years with a concussion returning in 2012-13. He unfortunately only lasted nine games with the AHL Lake Erie Monsters before suffering another head injury. He's only 21 years old and was taken with the 17th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

NewsAvalanche prospect Joey Hishon is reportedly feeling better of late after suffering his second concussion in recent memory.
ImpactHishon continues to undergo treatment for the head injury, but doctors are encouraged by the progress he has made."I think the stress and anxiety produced by the latest one was originally a concern, but his symptoms have improved," said Dr. Daniel Gallucci, one of the doctors treating Hishon at the Carrick Institute in Marietta, Georgia. The doctor indicated Hishon plans to work out vigorously during the summer in preparation for next season, which is certainly encouraging.

NewsJoey Hishon suffered a head injury when knocked into the boards from behind Friday in an AHL game.
ImpactWhile the Avs are not calling it a concussion, Hishon, Colorado's first pick and 17th overall in the 2010 Draft, missed almost two years after suffering a bad concussion in the 2011 Memorial Cup when hit by Brayden Schenn. He finally returned to action last month and had a goal and six points in nine games before getting hit by Joey Tenute Friday. We hope he has a speedy recovery.

ImpactHishon was drafted 17th overall in the 2010 Draft but a bad concussion during the Memorial Cup on a hit by Brayden McNabb has kept him out of game action for almost two years. Congratulations to Hishon on his return and we hope he has good health for the remainder of his career. Hishon had 87 points in 50 games during his last OHL season. He needs plenty of playing time and will get that at the AHL level.
