Torey Krug's arrival helps B's power play | 10/10/2013 9:52 AM
NewsTorey Krug's mobility and playmaking ability is expected to help Boston's power play this season.
ImpactKrug's arrival has allowed the Bruins to put Zdeno Chara in front of the net to screen the opposition's goalie and the team has other forwards who can create havoc around the zone as well. "We have a lot of different skill-sets on the power play," he said. "There's (David) Krejci and his vision and skill; Iggy's one-timer; (Milan Lucic's) ability to shoot the puck and battle down low; and then obviously Z can do all of that. There's a lot of different players on the power play, but we're having a lot of fun with it, moving the puck around and always trying to get better." NewsTorey Krug has the right attitude entering training camp.
ImpactHe understands that he doesn't have a job on the Boston Bruins locked up, but he's confident that he can earn one. "You prepare all summer, and I have confidence that I'm going to pass all the tests and do better than I did last year," he said. "But there's just something about it, with management and coaching staff watching the tests, it just adds that little element to it." Matt Bartkowski and Dougie Hamilton will be competing with Krug for two top-six spots with the Bruins to start the 2013-14 season.
Krug focuses on skating over summer | 09/08/2013 8:15 AM
NewsTorey Krug's offseason training put an emphasis on skating.
CSN New England
Impact"Last spring I had the mindset that I needed to get bigger to play at this level, and to get bigger and stronger. This summer the focus was about explosiveness. My game is having that explosive skating and really being quick with that first three or four steps," said Krug. "It's always also about getting stronger, so I can continue to battle with those guys in front." Krug has only played in three regular season NHL games, but he's expected to make the Bruins out of training camp after his strong showing during Boston's 2013 playoff run.

NewsTorey Krug has high expectations for himself this season.
ImpactThe 22-year-old defenseman, who had considerable success with the Bruins during the playoffs last season, expects to be in Boston come opening night and contribute as he did against the Rangers in the post-season scoring four goals. "Making the NHL roster cut is what I expect. That's what I want to do and that's my goal," said Krug. "My goal is to be on the team opening night and through the season. Management makes that decision, so I just my head down and let them do what they do." We like Krug as a late-round sleeper pick. He has the potential to be a 25-30 point player in 2013-14.

NewsBoston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said that he's pleased with the "freshness" displayed by his team's defense.
ImpactIt's likely that he would agree that Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug lead the charge in that department. "I'm okay with it and we do have a different look to our D. There is a freshness, a young look to it. If things aren't working out as the season progresses I may look into that, but I'm okay with it," Chiarelli said. "What I saw with these guys is there's going to be some bumps along the road.

ImpactKrug attempted a cross-ice pass out of his own zone during a line change. The puck was intercepted by Andrew Shaw, who quickly brought the puck back into the offensive zone and help set up Bolland's score. "Yes, it was a mistake to throw that puck up the middle," coach Claude Julien said. "But if you look back at the play, I don't think we had a good line change. He didn't have a ton of options. I think there could be some blame shared on that goal." Krug has been one of the better stories of the postseason, but young defensemen are often prone to moments like this one.

Raleigh News & Observer
Impact"The more the coaching staff puts you on the ice, the better it feels. It's a great feeling to get patted on the back," Krug said. "I have to do things like (score) if I want to stick around. If I'm not going to make an impact in the offensive zone, they'll find a bigger guy to do the other stuff." Krug produced four goals, including three on the power play, and added one assist in five contests versus the Rangers in Round 2. He has practiced as a fixture alongside Adam McQuaid on the team's third defense pairing since the series ended, which suggests he will stay there when the Eastern Conference Finals starts.
Krug might play even after others return | 05/27/2013 1:21 PM
NewsTorey Krug might continue to play even if Andrew Ference (lower body) and Wade Redden (undisclosed) are available for the start of the Eastern Conference finals.
ImpactFerence and Redden both missed the second round of the playoffs, but appear to be close to returning. Meanwhile Krug has stepped up with four goals and five points in five games. "That's all I'm going to say. A lot goes into it," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "At one point you make a decision and it doesn't mean that it's an easy one because it's not. But we'll deal with it when the time comes. We did it with Seidenberg. If Ference becomes available, we'll have to deal with that, too." Also in the mix is Matt Bartkowski, who has been solid with Ference and Redden gone.
Torey Krug relies on offense to keep job | 05/27/2013 8:46 AM
NewsTorey Krug knows he'll need to be a regular offensive contributor if he wants to hold down a job in the NHL.
ImpactKrug is certainly off to a good start with four goals and five points in five playoff games. He's 5-foot-9, so his strength doesn't lie in his physicality, which makes his offensive abilities all the more critical. "I have to do things like that if I want to stick around in this league. If I'm not going to be scoring or making an impact in the offensive zone, I'm not going to be sticking around. They're just going to find a bigger guy who can do those things," Krug said. "Hopefully I can continue, and like I said, I'm just trying to contribute any chance I get."
Torey Krug a fantastic story for Bruins | 05/26/2013 8:02 AM
NewsDefenseman Torey Krug's debut with the Bruins has been historic in nature.
ImpactThe defenseman set an NHL record for blueliners by scoring four goals in his first five career playoff contests and has been a revelation for a team that has continuously struggled with the man advantage. While he can't keep up the pace he has set, his offensive potential is rather interesting entering next season.
Bruins PP better since Krug promotion | 05/25/2013 8:47 AM
NewsThe Boston power play has been much improved since the promotion of Torey Krug.
ImpactAgainst the Rangers in the second round the Bruins are 3 for 9 with the man advantage and Krug has scored two of those goals. "I think that we're just not passing up those good opportunities," Krug said. "You'd see sometimes in the past we'd be passing the puck and we'd want to make that extra pass. But this time, we're shooting pucks, we're getting pucks to the net and guys are taking away Henrik (Lundqvist)'s ice." If Krug is available in your playoff pool and you have the ability to make roster changes you may want to consider picking him up.
Torey Krug says playoff hockey feels natural | 05/24/2013 8:38 AM
NewsTorey Krug said playoff hockey feels natural and he's "really comfortable" in the Bruins locker room despite being a rookie.
ImpactThe undersized defender scored yet another goal in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss. It was an absolute laser from the point that was ticketed for just over Henrik Lundqvist's outstretched glove hand. Krug has been a revelation for Boston since joining the lineup due to injuries at the end of the Bruins series. "It's crazy to think about, but it feels pretty natural right now and I'm very comfortable in this locker room, really comfortable coming out and playing in these games now," Krug said.

NewsIt's obvious that Torey Krug is feeling it as he begins his playoff career.
ImpactHe now has a goal in both of his first two postseason contests and added an assist for a two-point afternoon on Sunday. He was a big part of the Boston Bruins' 5-2 win against the New York Rangers in Game 2 and it's hard to imagine him losing his spot when the veteran defensemen are ready to return.
Diminutive Krug tougher than he looks | 05/18/2013 9:21 AM
NewsAlthough he is only 5'9", Bruins' rookie defenseman Torey Krug should not be underestimated physically.
ImpactHe tossed 6'7" Brian Boyle into the net during Thursday's overtime win against the Rangers and did not back down from any of the larger New York players. "He's a strong, stocky little kid," said teammate Matt Bartkowski. "He's got a good frame and a good base and he's strong for his size, so it really doesn't surprise me that he's able to stand in there and toss (Rangers forward Brian) Boyle into the net". Krug is a strong offensive player so the fact he can take of himself on the ice as well makes him a potential fantasy asset going forward.
