Bruins send Niklas Svedberg to AHL | 09/28/2013 3:13 PM
NewsNiklas Svedberg has been assigned to the minors.
ImpactHe was in the running to serve as Tuukka Rask's backup, but that job will go to Chad Johnson. Svedberg will try to build on his excellent showing in the AHL last year. He posted 37 wins, .925 save percentage and a 2.17 GAA in 48 games with Providence in 2012-13 and it doesn't look like it will be long before he's at the NHL level.
Niklas Svedberg still in hint for backup gig | 09/27/2013 6:35 AM
NewsNiklas Svedberg has made Boston's backup goaltender decision tougher.
ImpactIt makes sense to send him down to the minors because he doesn't have to clear waivers and Chad Johnson comes at a cheaper cap hit, but Svedberg is still in contention to serve as Tuukka Rask's understudy. "You try to show your best game. I gave up three goals (in the preseason) and I could have given up zero," he said after making 26 stops in a 3-2 overtime win over Winnipeg. "But it feels good to get two wins and tonight was a good game, to get a full game and get the win."
Niklas Svedberg seeks backup job in Boston | 09/18/2013 6:30 AM
NewsNiklas Svedberg played well in Tuesday's exhibition game against Washington.
ImpactTuukka Rask started the game and Svedberg finished it. He made six saves in the shootout to give the Bruins a 3-2 victory. Chad Johnson struggled in his Boston debut, allowing three goals on eight shots versus Montreal, so Svedberg may have taken a slight lead in the race to serve as Boston's backup goalie when the regular season begins.

ImpactWith Anton Khudobin out of the mix, someone needs to step forward. Still, Chad Johnson was signed on a one-way deal, so it would probably work better for the organization if Svedberg continues his development in the AHL.
Niklas Svedberg likely to be back in AHL | 07/06/2013 9:13 AM
NewsNiklas Svedberg is likely ticketed for more time in the AHL.
ImpactThe Bruins signed Chad Johnson to a one-way deal, and even though the two will battle for the back-up job in training camp, it appears that the Bruins want to give the 23-year-old Svedberg more seasoning. He had a 2.17 goals-against average and .925 save percentage in the AHL last season.
Nicklas Svedberg may become B's No. 2 goalie | 06/04/2013 8:06 AM
NewsNicklas Svedberg may be Boston's backup goalie next season.
ImpactCurrent number two option Anton Khudobin could become an unrestricted free agent in July. Svedberg was excellent in the AHL this past campaign during his first taste of hockey in North America. He posted a 37-8-2 record with a 2.17 GAA, a .925 save percentage and four shutouts. Svedberg may be someone to keep an eye on going into next year.
